These communication hubs have become an intrinsic part of the life and culture of today's youth. Tapping into this phenomenon, Shrishti Behl Arya will base her upcoming show – India Calling with a call center in the background.
It represents today's youth
"I have done immense research on the operating call centers, from their working to the behavioral patterns of the guys who work in them. In terms of representing the contemporary face of today's youth, nothing beats the call centers", says Shristhi.
However she also adds that the call center on her show will just provide a backdrop to the plot, while the real emotions of the characters will be on the forefront.
Small town girl in big city
"India Calling tells the story of Chandni (Mansi Parekh) who comes from Jalandhar to Mumbai. She imbibes the values and beliefs of every Indian girl her age. How she copes with her transition from a small town to the city and interacts with other characters in India Calling, is what the show is all about."
Among the rest of the cast, is one of Shrishti's favourite people — Nigaar Z Khan (who has worked with her previously in Lipstick). "I am thrilled to have her on the show. She plays the role of Kamini and enters the plot at a later stage. We haven't yet fixed the guy opposite Mansi, but we will be doing that soon."
It's not a Remix clone
When asked, since India Calling will primarily represent the aspirations of today's youngsters will it be similar to her current show — Remix?
She was emphatic in her denial, "This show is nothing like Remix. There is a huge difference between the settings of the two. We want to prove through this serial that it's cool to be Indian. We don't need to be anyone else to realize our dreams and ambitions."
Sets inspired by real call centers
The sets of Shrishti new show has been designed after looking at the interiors of many existing call centers.
"It will have all the required elements which any of today's working call centers have. I am pretty excited about the way it has turned out." India Calling is scheduled to go on air November 14 at 9.30 pm on Star One.
