Cultural Traditions of Chandangarh

Chandangarh is a town located somewhere near the Indo Pak border in Rajasthan. C'garh in general and Ranawat Haveli in particular have certain weird cultural traits, unique and inigenous. Today Chanangarh Times brings you a special report on some of these traditions.

1. Mangalsutra Mangalsutra everywhere not a mangalsutra to wear-

Unlike rest of India where mangalsutra is worn by the wife after her wedding, the men of Chandangarh donot believe in this tradition. They prefer to carry the mangalsutra in their pockets all day and night and drop it in front of their wives at very opportune moments, to show them what they are missing. When a wife passes all tests with distinction and undergoes an agnipariksha she is awarded a mangalsutra in a lamp studded ceremony. This ceremony usual happens in a courtyard so as to make it convenient for anyone and everyone to walk in and interrupt it. This may be accompanied by other special effects, real or fake, depending on the husband's pocket. This tradition is passed down generations from father to son.

2. The custom of Polyandry

Although polygamy is quite common in many communities in India, C'garh is one of the rare places where polyandry is prevalent. Women are allowed and encouraged to have more than one husbands, either simultaneously or sequentially. There is no need of divorce in between these marriages. It is suspected that the low Female:Male ratio in the state may have lead to this custom.

This was needed..!!! too good!!..wonder if we will ever get to know if she still married to both? or divorced one of them.!!

3. The Nanny tradition-

After the wedding the wife is to take complete care of the husband a' la a Nanny. She is to feed him all his meals, make him drink his milk, bathe him and clothe him, brush his teeth and pat him to sleep with lullabies. Moreover she is not supposed to speak or even think of consummashunz for at least 200 episodes, i.e. 2 years.

You r hooked on this nanny concept.. too good.. btw, the nanny will punish Rudra for being rude to his mammy and refuse to go on honeymoon with him!!

Any other weird customs you noticed may be reported!!!
