The thing is, this isn't just a Bollywood thing...it's more like a universal thing (including Hollywood). And it happens in real life too. In Hollywood we are often shown the good, quiet, sometimes nerdy girl who falls in love with the hot jock and often the hot jock has a bitchy cheerleader girlfriend before he falls for the nerdy girl ("A Walk To Remember" anyone?)...what crap. These movies blatantly show that certain types of girls are worth loving (the quiet, innocent types) while another type are just for fun/time pass (usually the loud, partying type). It sends across such a bad message to women...that you need to be a certain way in order to deserve love...uh excuse me...everyone deserves love...no matter how they are...
But the question is...do these movies teach the audience that certain type of women are worth loving while other types aren't...or is this a sad reality and movies are just a reflection of society...hmmm...I think it's the latter. Patriarchy is hugely responsible for the way women are perceived and desired in many societies, and it goes back hundreds or even thousands of years.
Cocktail movie.. Deepika was the man in the relationship..in my opinion the character of saif was just not man enough for deepika.. So she did not lose by losing such a wimp... He was a freeloader at her house..
But yes true such hypocrisy..exists.. I did my MBA after marriage and living in singapore.. I had an indian boy studying with me..he was dating a cool born and brought up sardarni from singapore for 2 years throughout our course.. After sometime he coolly dumped her and married a simple indian girl..from home..
He blithely told me that she was not the type his family would approve.. I was so put off because his ex girlfriend was just reasonable modern and quite a sweet heart..
Though I want to tell these Indians looking for bride that indian girls are very much changing these days.. It is not so easy finding a virgin and untouched girl good for them..
My cousin teaches in a college in agra...she says students have changed quite a bit these days..
Has anybody seen shudh desi romance that's the new reality in indian hinterland.
@ SUSH ... Have u not seen a few episodes of bold and beautiful... When Brooke is spurned by Ridge .. She traps his dad Eric in marriage thus giving a tight slap to his dominating mother Stephanie...it was quite a hit track and stayed like this for quite some years..
