curledup,

What a heartbreakingly beautiful story. I loved the way you built up the story of him expecting a hero's welcome, and ended up facing disgust.

Your story hit a bit closer to home. I am contemplating if I should share it on an open forum.

curledup, that was heartbreaking.
Dilsher has seen the worst war can offer -- the screams of women and children is something no soldier can ever come to terms with, be they friend or foe. And sometimes death is the only relief.

I love how you've brought out the juxtaposition between the memories of war and the familiar sights and smells of home, of love. The anticipation, the slight nervousness, almost, that Dilsher is feeling.

Only to have his worst fear come to life when, instead of the love and concern he had hoped for, there is nothing but disgust on his wife's face. Vibhatsa. Toward him, toward the injury that causes him to limp. Toward the disfigurement of a once physically imposing body.

Yes, war is never kind. And it is at its cruelest best when it leads to rejection by the very person from whom you expect nothing but unquestioning and unconditional love and support when you need it the most.

earlier i seemed to relate disguist with something akin to loathing, never on earth had i realized it could have meanings such unfathomable.
Nandini's sufferings was so vivid...and painful.
Really Heart wrenching to see what a poor soul has to go through.

dilsher had always a person hard to decipher, guarding insecurities in a shell...a man seeming so tough outside hiding his pain...failing to live upto the expectation of a husband ...trying to redeem himself by fulfilling his responsiblity as a father as a brother...all this the reflection of his past...his feelings described so perfectly.
LOVED BOTH THE UPDATES
