I think it is something more than the pace.
1. I completely agree that not many significant events have happened. In fact, I had actually missed a few episodes in between, and I caught on pretty easily. Now I don't particularly mind this. I LOVE a show that has nuanced characterisation. I like it that SOMEBODY in the soap world is loyal to the story.
2. Problem is this- there are too many conflicts: Rudra's mom, Tejawat's plans, Mohini's plans, Paro's clueless dilemma. These conflicts were introduced pretty much at the start of the show, bang on, all together. Instead of waiting for things to unfold slowly, there is this stream of issues to tackle. Maybe it is a conflict overload without the viewers completely understanding/relating to the characters, yet. Hence, we keep having discussions like is Rudra abusive, or desperate?
3. Bigger problem- NONE of the conflicts are getting resolved at all. It's just going one rasam to the next, reiterating the elephant in the room. It is natural that anybody would find it stagnant.
4. To cover Ashish's illness, and the split, they introduced some really interesting tracks. Be it Maithili's kidnapping, or Mohini's plotting. They were resolved in such a contrived and convenient manner, I was disappointed. I thought they could have done a lot with the goon in captive, with Maithili's kidnapping, and maybe brought in Thakurain a little later. What was the point in her visiting the haveli when nothing much came off it?
5. Character development is slightly uneven. What Ashish gets to do is brilliant. His is the best explored character as of now. But Paro is relatively understated. There are times when I find Mohini way more fascinating than Paro.
6. They have left Laila hanging in the air. That character has such potential. I would like to see more than her limited plans of acid-haldi. It's too trivial. She deserves more respect (because it's unfair she wasted 8 years for Rudra), or at least more attention. Maybe Ankita needs to improve on the acting front, but the character Laila should not be reduced to just a conventional vamp.
What I'm trying to say is, the story is caught in a vortex of motives- cliches for the TRP janta, or a strong story; quick pace or detailed exploration; subtlety or in-your-face drama. They could, maybe, introduce one conflict at a time and resolve it, and then move on. But that won't be a food-for-thought watching experience for me, personally. I know they want a larger than life portrayal, but they should really stick to one path.
Yet, I do think this is one of the better shows on TV today. TRP or no TRP, they are doing a good job.
