DD Well thought out and fantastic post and such creativity in the early hours of the morning I am impressed I am usually surly and crotchety till my dose of filter coffee and heaven help all those near me in case the delivery of newspapers are delayed I need them in tandem to become a modicum of a human being

Much as I even the Grinch side of me really liked your explanation but I will not allow the creative's to get away scot free without a proper reasoning for her actions onscreen The average TRP viewer is not going to romanticize it in this way What they see is a young widow being coerced by a man albeit dressed up in the Tri colors of the Nation as a Major so folks don't get put off by his actions and doings They don't have the benefit of forums explanations and interpretations what they see they accept as face value without subjecting the characters actions to analysis Simple!

Hmm there is a reason I am a bit put off by this PH skeptical even They know how to write out their Male Leads character sketch to the T given enough justifications to prove their dark traumatic past as being something that has to be cried over and I am not just talking about this show The other one both 1 and 2 have the same recurring themes as well They make sure you make an emotional connect to all their actions although in the case of 1 they turned him into a psycho

I personally felt in RR apart from the males surprisingly all the females with the exception of Paro and Mala have also been thought out well I see Maithali's sweet disposition and her yearning for motherhood which was very well enacted by the actor in question ( I literally cried) and know Sunehri nature is bubbly and fun and and Mohini's characterization is absolutely splendid Laila's character has been clearly established and we can sympathize for/with her or conversely disapprove depending on which team you are rooting for She has done only a limited number of scenes but with impact on the viewers mind as to her history with Rudra I get her need for vengeance We don't need dictionaries pictionaries Wikipedia and a jaunt to IF and read innumerable posts to figure out their motives and what makes them tick They are very clear cut in their enactment

In the case of Paro I had a sudden epiphany of why they may not be willing to show too much of her thoughts and grief and I think it may be a deliberate move on the part of the makers that viewers don't make too much of an emotional investment to her past when she makes the decision to marry Rudra which just might outrage the conservative moral wing if they are emotionally invested in her first husbands memories and her widowhood This forum got polarized by that one episode of her pain last night and we all pride on ourselves as being erudite but by the nights end degenerated into pseudo feminists to Rudra Bashers to other name calling so imagine if they had been hammering at it right from the start the effect it would have had I strongly feel that is how it is going to play out She who fought all the way through will suddenly surprisingly due to a variety of factors maybe societal shaming of her as he has publicly branded her as his woman and been most passionate about it much to the delight and embarrassment of all the village women and His Mother s capture may also have something to do with it as well or she suddenly finds herself head over heels in love over his heroic acts when the truth of Tejawat comes out Take your pick and also a very big reason why he is going to turn Othello on her for he will not believe she agreed to marry him just because.

I think that bit applies to Mala as well These are the 2 most important female characters that have a baggage that needs delicate handling and a reason they have been kept open ended so their story can change as per the demands of the TRP and before someone rushes to point out Rudra's baggage I know I am aware but this is about Paro

You know what I found funny initially when I started viewing Desi TV in love stories females are never shown experiencing sexual passion arousal or craving for a physical touch unless they are playing a vamp or with ulterior motives They did just show once the FL as an equal participant and the rest was history long live Ishmael but after that reverted back to standard- coy shy and a party pooper

My POV ( which sob sob does not see eye to eye with yours so maaf karo pleej)

Here they have a wonderful opportunity to show a girl becoming sexually aware for the first time in her life even turned on by all the myriad of new emotions floating through her brought on by the proximity of a mans touch for the first time She can hate him but she can be shown hating more what he makes her feel but oh no what they have done is show her passive and unresisting and submissive Probably they are a bit wary of current sexual harassment laws for any bit of resistance would have been misconstrued as conduct unbecoming an army officer and subject to a complaint to the Broadcast Authority if one wishes to do and in this country where PIL's are filed regularly against Female actors for daring to kiss some Westerner at a function or speak their mind on sexual rights this would be just a chance for someone in the lunatic fringe a great photo-op and free publicity in the name of moral policing Ok I am exaggerating the female actor bit that is as for the other very possible since there is a PIL in Tamil Nadu court filed by an army officer over some Southern hero cum politician being called a captain when he actually has no official military ranking and is a sobriquet he feels unworthy of this person
Even yesterday they were this close to tottering on a seedy slippery slope of ugly brutal intimidation and strong arm tactics but by generating Hair movements and eye locks on both parties as consensual they have somehow managed to pull themselves in over a very questionable reprehensible act by an Army officer against a civilian and a woman at that I think her rubbing of the Maang would have offended the regular folks and made it all the more outrageous if she is going to end up marrying him and in Hindi soaps nothing is more eternally venerated than traditions and customs especially by for of and with women

All those scenarios you spelt out would have been the perfect reaction but here she is non reactive to the point we think she may have wanted it So while I say a great insightful interpretation of Paro by you here in IF I am not cutting any slack to the creative's till they show a very good reason Give her a soliloquy where she is shown spelling out all her fears so we are in the clear why she is like this only - whether it is her grief over a short lived marriage an imaginary blissful conjugal life with Varun or the new emotions that Rudra's proximity is stirring up inside of her It does not have to be repeated to the point of nauseam and overkill just once is enough You have a very good emotional actor in SI for that message to go

This story would have been mighty interesting if they had Paro just spend one night with Varun Imagine the sexual and emotional baggage between the 2 when she remarries
My grouse with ST is if he had the guts to think 3 way then why not this also what a radical step forward for FL on Indian TV but then Laila had to turn a vamp to please the aam junta so am not going to flog a dead horse anymore

I do hope you are not offended by the tone of my post I just wanted a chance to blast the creatives for making us second guess the motives and thoughts of the FL
P.S. Not just yesterday but I would have loved to grab my hands on the original script and idea for RR as conceptualized by ST in its actuality as opposed to the present one which definitely has undergone changes to placate viewers and channel

Once again lovely post DD but FLS FLG FLW (FLH is banished) vary in their reading of Paro and they lay it at the doorstep of the makers who just thought innocent meant bland and no shades

😆 you do wonders for my ego DD
Take your time and glad you gave me an opportunity to vent my anger over the creatives if they had even shown half the stuff you described so beautifully we wont be left tearing our hair in exasperation over her character and would have probably rejoiced over the coming of age of a new breed of FL not afraid to show their love sigh may be next century

Interesting post. Was nice to read another take on yesterday's episode. After reading yours and FLS posts, my thoughts are getting reinforced, that by blanking out Paro's thoughts and making her stoic/passive the creatives have not really done any favours, albeit as FLS said they can now mold Paro as per TRP and audience sensibilities when needed. By not giving any insight into her various internal conflicts, which she clearly has, as she said that to Mythali, they have left it to us to make whatever out of it, hence the multiple interpretations. Wish at least once we hear the "bahut kuch" which Paro is feeling. Pity, when they have an actress like SI who can deliver the exact feelings.

About the last scene for me the breeze and song seemed a misfit with the what I thought the scene was supposed to be which is battle of wills and domination. Here I am not making moral judgements, Rudra is under increasing pressure and Paro challenged him. He said he will do whatever it takes, and he has bent rules before. I felt that the scene was about his domination, her breaking down bit by bit. All the softening aside, there are moments when his goal and her principles take precedence.

@bold yes this is absolutely true. This is a challenge around which the love story will be played but it is still a love story and it has to start somewhere. As per me the attraction started on day one but has yet to grow

Yes, attraction is there and has been shown, but expressions aside, some of these emotions have to be spelt out for the audience, through thoughts or monologues, as both don't have anyone else to talk, so that we can connect to the images we see. The last scene definitely led to multitude of interpretations.

Brilliant post you have brought back the points that most of us have forgotten. Paro is attracted to Rudra and vice versa fatal attraction indeed.

You made the counter point quite well. I was a bit confused yesterday that how they will have love blossoming bet Rudra and paro after that blatant power play by Rudra yesterday.

But your post made me look from other POV.

FLS sorry about the delay had things to do with the start of my weekend.

Phew! Some food for thought ...

Your post actually got me thinking. Am I as a viewer seeing more than what I should see? Even something that does not exist? Is this something I/Me want to see in my heroine? Is that why I brought my own interpretation to the table? Was I wrong or was I right?

And now that I read you, the CVs have managed to achieve exactly what they wanted to.

Here is my response. Ahhh...I am trying to explain...not sure if it has come out the way it should...

Para 2 - Now about the average non-forum viewer I have a feeling they have embraced the scene for its beauty (mehendi scene) at face value. Meaning the mehendi application is an act of glorification in itself being a holistic wedding ritual and the hero even soothing her burns. So I feel the hero scored a double here. Not sure about the larger TRP audience in India but I say this from what I gather from friends and family (Intl viewers) watching the show & those not on IF or any other forum. The reason could also be that they are in awe of the hero's patriotic reasons for doing what he does. Also whilst watching rituals, one forgets the good and bad and whys and where. In real life too marriages bring joy, unity and positivity.

Para 3 - This is my first of the PH, so I really wouldn't know. But it does seem now that NF does follow a SOTC format for all their shows. Oh and I hope you do not assume I am a fan of one of their other heroines due to my user id...it's only that we happen to share the same initials in our name.

But FLS I would call the channel the bigger culprit, the baap of all woes...for I don't think the writers are able to enjoy creative liberties with the channel asking them to prove themselves week in week out.

Para 4 - Agree completely. For this widow bit CVs have played smart and kind of made us even forget she is one. I for one was waiting for a scene where she is stripped off her jewellery etc (a promo had played out earlier) but it just did not happen. When Mohini came into the show was expecting her to do it. None of the signs of being a widow are being shown, so don't know whether a TRP viewer even remembers she is one. And yes I'd like to take my pick of her falling in love with all his heroic acts and the BSD wala bit, considering her dialogue, "Will not allow anyone else to go against my country".

Para 6 - Absolutely agree. You have a very valid point there. The CVs are playing safe to some extent.

Para 7 - Tell me about it. Never gonna happen ...not with so many moral police mommas who would interpret a display of a woman's feelings as "charitraheen". You see Desi TV women belong to a democratic land. An Indian woman on TV at least can never ever think I, Me, Myself! Naah!

Para 8 - I get what you are saying here. They can surely show Paro break into monologues in a very subtle manner. Even an "apne aap se darr lag raha hai" would make a world of difference to the situation and us viewers. The perfect scene would have been when she sat to sing Helli Maro...anyways...

I must mention this here. Prior to RR was watching Ek Boond Ishq. The hero accused of rape and murder marries a girl in prison (she for financial security) he to find love. He even goes on to threaten rape by dragging her into a godown in the middle of the night, pushes her around, pulls off her dori, and scares the hell out of her. He instils fear in her. All this just so that she ends her marriage, because he wants to play Messiah. Carry someone else's cross. Storyline was a thriller that turned into a comedy of horrors so stopped watching.

The Maang rubbing off - Agree - It would be blasphemy in the name of marriage. Secondly I now look at it like this way, were she to rub it off it could also means she calls for death for her to-be husband. Abbshagun or whatever.

But then FLS, I don't understand why Paro walked into his bedroom with a bowl of lep and dared to touch him. Just placing the bowl at his bedside and asking him to use it for its purpose would be enough. How would a TRP viewer take this?

Another scene, where she shut her eyes for a few seconds more, after he took off the necklace. Why those few seconds of eyes shut? Also what did he mean when he said, "Who wants to touch you?"

With all these little nuances being shown yet her thought process is not explained. Is the PH too afraid to spell it out for us at least just once like you say a monologue of thoughts racing through her mind? I personally would love that. In my OS - The Panther and the Gazelle I spelled out her thoughts. Are the CVs saying "chose how you want to see it on your screen? Interpret her actions/no reactions the way you want to dear viewer." I feel so, they are simply playing safe and letting us play dumb charades!

Many a times whilst watching RR I have felt that maybe you need a woman at the helm of the story- telling to bring out those beautiful emotions of the FL.

But then I think of Gul's previous show and think "What the... never mind...

Oh how I would love to be in that room where the actors are being told to bring to life a character that is written on sheets and sheets of paper. And I bet my bottom dollar there are two versions of those beautiful sheets marked RR. And in one of them marked XXX lurks those awesome characters that take form in the deep dark recesses of a writer's soul.

Once again I sincerely found the read absolutely fascinating .Got me to put on my thinking cap.

P.S. Would you be kind enough to explain FL G & W...You see I am done with my monthly grocery shopping for March. How many Fairy Liquids are there really?😆

Thank you.

Hugs
