While what u r saying is valid & i hit the LIKE button i am also confused on wat we the viewers want. If they show a lovey soppy hero like the golu molu in YRKKH or mama boy in DABH v crib. These fall under the defn of decent men who love & respect their wives but do v like such shows & heroes? NO! So ultimately it boils down wat the romance loving viewers love to watch on screen.

To be honest these shows cater to young girls in their teens & early 20s & wat attracts them to a show is the typical angry dark handsome hero who is all flawed & then falls heavily for the proverbial virginal maid who changes him by a flick of her thumb. This is wat sells & this is what TV show makers dish out.

I ve been longing since ages to watch an Indian adaptation of classics like Wuthering Heights, Rebecca, Pride & Prejudice but alas that ll never happen 😕

You echoed my thoughts . Completely agree with you.

I am dam fed-up with the concepts that flawed hero will be fixed by a heroine who is epitome of peace, sacrifice and kindness. Which far away from reality .Also justify the physical torture he do to the heroine because of the hero's dark past. Some time they show grabbing hand tightly, pining to wall ,tearing dress ,forced dance etc as romantic gestures which is so ridiculous.

Channels should ignore TRP's then only we will see change in the shows .If not TV shows concepts will not change.

Youre so right. It definitely not Paro's job. She can inspire and show him what a normal family could be . Id like him to shun any help from her. Id like him to tell her that she cannot even imagine the bitterness that he carries with him. She should be shown helpless in this situation. She doesn't know what it feels like to carry so much baggage. She has never seen such hatred in her life. They both have to battle it out together to come out of this.

This show can really rise to another level if they don't fall into the soap trap.

I loved the ideas you gave:

They need to explore Paro's culpability, the Birpur villager's blind faith angle, the story about the baraatis, who they are, the story about the missing brides of Birpur. They can bring in the Thakur's life, on his plans, on corruption in the Army, how deep it goes into the BSD. On Rudra's guilt, on hell, Rudra and Aman's bonds as brothers in arms.

So much of potential... hope they don't waste it.

Hi,

Complete agree with your thoughts... And it is a very strong and meaningful analysis that needs to be taken seriously.

Regarding the precap, however, when I saw it, I only felt rudra was using this marriage thing to pressurize paro into telling him about the gun trafficking that he believes she is involved in. The reason is he uses the precise time (4 days) given to him by the authorities to prove his actions... I did not for once think he meant it...I believe he knows paro has strong emotions and believes about marriage and That will break her so called silence since she would definitely not want to marry him... Her or his one card to the truth.

This was just my observation from the precap and I truly hope this is true. If your predictions come true then...it will be a disappointment for sure...

Thank you to everyone for actually discussing this issue, and for the incredible soap/article suggestions! This is why I love me some smart women watching silly things--our minds will NOT stagnate, even as we oogle hard at the kurtas with missing buttons.

Just wanted to point out that as per the recent SBS SSB quotes, there is no doubt that the forced-marriage will happen, and RR will follow with every TRP Aunty's favorite "torture the bride" track. Rudra will have full blown mommy issues too, with the Thakurain being revealed (world's worst secret, BTW!) and of course Paro will pay for every last one of his problems with her tears and her black-and-blue arms. Lets have Laila traipse in and out of the marital bedroom insulting Paro while saxing up Rudra to add to the TRPs. Then Rudra can REALLY show the woman he's tormenting how little he values and respects women.

We are in for some fun regressive times..

I agre with you... But the sad part is today's soaps ahve glorified the 'Damaged Hero' to such an extent that you seldom find rationality in the plot!!! True that a troublesome childhood may make you damaged but it necessarily need not make the hero border on the lines of 'anti-hero'!!!
We have seen that all recent daily soaps have the same set of characteristics for the hero - a troubled childhood, parents committing suicide, mother leaving behind her kid and husband - which effectively makes the hero so damaged that he develops an animalistic behaviour!!!!

And then, they throw in the 'sanskaari' heroine who believes in traditions, family, God and fairy-tales; churning out a plot wherein she is made the one to connect the 'damaged hero' to his humane side... And what we viewers get out of it is a crazy plot and an ever changing storyline in the name of TRPs!!!!

Hi Napster...didn't see this post until now...

OK...here is my view...I think you are judging the marriage announcement a lot more harshly than I am...I do not think for one minute that Rudra is doing this to abuse her...or will ever abuse her...That much I believe ..based on what they have shown so far...

He doesn't view her previous marriage as legit...and he sees Paro as someone who wants to belong ...have a family...have a home..to not live at a place temporarily ..all those things that a marriage provides...so...this is not an action taken to abuse her but subconsciously to do what he thinks she is looking for in life any ways...

What is off is timing...that has been precipitated by the mausam sa and his suspension...He knew Paro was there, when the incident happened...he does not know she had fainted ...so he desperately hopes Paro will come through and give her testimony to prove his innocence ...and he is just trying to precipitate that...

I stopped watching IPK...after the real marriage happened ...so didn't see Mrs. India track...I know marriage track didn't work well ...hated the abuse Arnie boy dished out after the forced marriage...I hope they don't repeat that shows mistakes and give us something better...but I don't want to come to a convulsion before having actually seen where they are going with this...

Sush:

If you've seen the sbs or sbb posts, you will know that the place they are going with this track is the ghissa-pitta hate marriage track, where two enemies with real issues this time, not just "aukaat" problems are about to be tied into marriage. While the marriage is something neither party wants, in Paro's case, she is helpless to stop it. Please note-no matter what Kakisa does, everyone, from Dilsher to Paro herself knows Rudra can stop the madness--and Rudra is not stopping this farce of a shaadi, if the sbb/sbs spoilers are true.

He will marry her after four days. What does he gain by marrying her, if she will not give him his signed confession in these four days? Revenge-his enemy will be in his hands. For this army man, Paro is a combatant. She will have cost him the only thing he values--his BSD post--and she will be helpless---and still trapped---after causing him this loss if she does not confess. And as for wanting to marry Paro, or anyone-- Rudra hates women, and hates traitors to his country even more. right now, to him, she is both.

If Rudra goes through with it, I dont agree it will be because he is giving Paro something she unconsciously wants. No way does the man with ashes in his chest and barud in his blood care about this prisoner enough to sacrifice his own freedom for her. He is like an animal when it comes to being tied down in relationships.

He hasn't given Laila any haq, and she is a woman he has eight years of history with. Laila, the closest he has to a "friend", who he goes to for food and companionship--and she does not even have the right to apply a bandage to his wounds or ask him a question after eight years.

What is going to happen with his prisoner/wife, who is responsible for his court-martial, who is a terrorist, who caused his mission to fail and is staying silent to shield her Thakur? I'm guessing the hate-marriage track we saw on the show that must not be named is going to be heaven compared to what Rudra-sa might be bringing to Paro now.

Thanks for your discussions, btw--having a great time reading your thoughts!

Napster ji, I for one dont think the wedding will happen. Its for a simple reason. In TV land weddings are big events, TRP generators, that is planned months in advance. each ritual is shown and the dram surrounding it exponentially increased. There is no way this wedding is taking place next week, and that too in such short notice.

Well, this is what i think.

The problem for me with that show, quite honestly, is that until the last shot of the final scene, I was never quite sure, anymore than the heroine herself probably was, on WHY he loved her-- was it her, or was it just animal attraction? He was as irritated by her antics towards the end as he was at the beginning, only ASR by the end was able to deal with his gussa a touch more sanely. I could never decide whether her lower class state would be something he would forgive her for, in a way.The whole Mrs India final story-line left a bad taste in my mouth, like the KSG who was on the motorcycle in the first episode was dead and gone, and here we had this ASR approved doll on stage who had changed her very self for her man. In the end, ASR's "aukat" won, and KKG's "gurur" did not. It was sad for me.

Now, having said that about IPK, I am getting worried for RR. I for one HATE kitchen dramatics, which IPK had mercifully little of. But RR has shown potential of blowing all the stereotypes away. Such huge themes--patriotism, betrayal, country vs self-sacrifice--and the acting is first rate.

I didn't know I signed up for masala mami and the submissive sisterhood of the traveling ghagras. If the story becomes a hate-marriage with us breathlessly munching popcorn as we chart exactly how many times Rudra's fingers brushed Paro's kamariya while he was manhandling her TODAY versus the last time--- I'm out.

@bold-I hated the Mrs.India track with a passion! Its a track that was the last nail in IPK's coffin & it, finally turned the show into a joke! But, in spite of that, I did view it a little differently! Arnav didn't ask her to participate in the show! She chose to do it, in order to prove that she can stand on her own, not just in making jalebis(I quoted her)! Although, why the makers chose Mrs.India competition as the way to get that fact across, I don't know-one would've expected her to have taken her food business further! Arnav, I don't think ever had an issue with her social status! It seemed to serve just as a reminder for him & her to maintain that facade of hatred! Also, I don't think he ever meant for her to turn into an ASR-approved doll! In fact, I don't think Khushi changed at all! She continued with her ridiculous antics which in the beginning of the show were hilarious, but eventually turned into nightmarish clown-like antics-case in point: the family going to the movie plot! He wasn't really concerned about her behaviour back then, either! Strangely, nothing she did quite embarrassed him & that I find surprising! He was a major ass & I watched the show till the last episode in the hope of seeing him redeem himself, truly, but sadly, that didn't happen! In fact, what I didn't understand, eventually, is why she put up with him, at all-he put her through so much misery & she embraced him, the moment the MU cleared without as much as an apology from his side! I don't know if such forgiveness is truly possible! I just perceived it this way! I do understand that you have your own views! I am not countering them, but merely, sharing mine!
As far as RR is concerned, THANK YOU for making this post! I have been feeling completely frustrated with this heroine playing healer to the damaged hero crap for a while now, especially, when it means that she has to jump into his personal hell, before pulling him out! The stereotype is annoying!
The kitchen politics in RR puts me off, completely! The men are spineless & chaachi/kaaki is a witch from the wild wild west! What the hell was the remarriage talk there?!?!?!?!

At the risk of getting the Mods upset, I HAVE to address this--I am SO in agreement with your analysis, its not even funny! ASR started and ended for me as essentially the same man--just one who smiled more, with longer hair and stubble, and someone and was a bit more tolerant about having married below himself. I agree with you--Khushi's lack of social standing was such an absolute for him, made her so irredeemably low in his eyes, the arrogance of his assuming it as a given took my breath away. I kept waiting for the A-HA! moment, the knock to the head--and it never came.

I dont think he even minded it in the end--it just went with ASR's idea of Khushi, along with her bright clothes. Like--Yep, this is Khushi, she'll do things I don't understand because she is so much lower than me when it comes to aukat, I literally wont be able to understand it. But she loves me, she's gorgeous, and I'm fated to be her lover, so I'll make my peace with it, and smirk to myself about the fact I've never had to apologize for treating her like dirt, and for never ever trusting her. But hell, I'm ASR. Cue background music.

I'm probably being unfair, in retrospect, since at the time, it felt like any track was enough, it was enough that it was still on air, and the addiction we all had got fed-----and the show tried its best with a missing leading man, and incredible uncertainties regarding its running time. But it robbed us loyal viewers by not using its last few months to do a damn redemption track, to give the iconic ASR a graceful exit, and the eternal KKG some dignity and a farewell she earned!

Anyway-- RR is breathtakingly jumping the shark for me, if we have to see a revenge marriage track withing 40 episodes of the show starting its run.

Honestly, a part of me thinks Nautanki Films peeped into India-Forums, saw that almost two thirds of us on the RR forum were IPKKND fans and decided to gift us with the most recognizable of our old show's track--the worst one.

They think---- Oh these are old IPK fans? Guess what girls! RR can do more than IPK ever did! Can we serve you some hot, tortured hero? Is Sanaya's face making you nostalgic for when she used to be dropped out of windows on a regular basis? Well, stay tuned to RR, coming to a screen near you! Now with MORE revenge and a bitchy kakisa too!

Maybe they'll realize this is just not the way to go. Maybe-- Hope springs eternal...
