PART 17

Karan was talking with his employee on phone while shaan was trying to call Shila but her phone was unreachable. Khanak was moving her gaze from shaan to karan hoping that at least one of them will give good news. Karan was loosing his temper in the phone call with his manager.

Karan: I don't care Mr Chawderi mujhe kuch nahin sun na! aap itna sa kam nahin kar sakte

Chawderi: but I am doing my best sir but the travel agency does not want to cooperate

Karan: and what does that mean? Listen to me carefully I want that information and I want it NOW tho agar apko apna kam khona nahin hai kuch bhi kar ke pata kijiye ki Shilpa Malhotra uss plane mein thi ya nahin understood?

Chawderi: yes sir (he said with a shaking voice)

Karan: and don't dare to call me without it (and he cuts the phone)

Shaan: I don't understand why she is not answering her phone

Khanak: maybe her phone is down or something

Shaan: khanak phone down hoga tho voicemail pe jaayega naa yeh tho unreachable hai

He sits on the couch holding his head. Karan kept watching the news on TV he just couldn't get his eyes off it. The plane going from Goa to Mumbai unfortunately crashed. With 113 passengers 52 died, 30 are seriously injured and the last 21 are missing probably drowned according to sources. Karan shuts his eyes trying to wash his bad thoughts as much as possible..nothing could have happened to her...she couldn't just leave him this way he thought.

Khanak: shaan what if you call your parents and ask them?

Shaan: yeah..agar Shilpa Mumbai mein ho tho im sure unhe pata hoga

Karan: wait Shaan (karan opens his eyes) what if they don't know anything? Jab tak hume sab kuch sahi pata nahin chalta hume kisi se kuch kehni nahin chahiye

Khanak: then you should just call them as if everything is fine and see if they mention shilpa (he nods and dials his father's number)

Sunil: hello Shaan beta? Beta how are you? Tum sab theek ho naa?

Shaan: jee dad hum..hum theek hai

Sunil: thank God tumne phone kiya beta hume bohut chinta ho rahi thi..we saw the news on TV

Shaan: dad don't worry we are…fine (he managed to say)

Sunil: beta tum apna khial rakhna aur ho sake tho jaldi ghar aao...main Madhvi ko bhi inform karta hoon voh tum chaaron ke liye bohut pareshan thi..(shaan's expression changes that meant they didn't know anything about shilpa's whereabout)

Shaan: dad aap...take care of mom (he wasn't able to talk anymore)

Sunil: okay son you also take care (shaan cuts the phone looking desperately at the other two in front of him and nods in a no)

Shaan: unhe kuch...kuch nahin pata Shilpa ke bare mein (he whispers with teary eyes. At that moment karan's phone rang his manager was calling him. He quickly answers)

Karan: kuch pata chala?

Chawderi: jee sir. Maine phir se travel agency pe phone kiya aur unhone mujhe bataya ki Miss Shilpa Malhotra ki issi flight mein booking thi (karan's eyes wided in shock) and sir maine hospitals mein bhi phone ki hai lekin Miss Shilpa naa hi injured people mein hai aur naa hi…

Karan couldn't utter a word. His brain stopped working the moment it got confirmed she was in that plane. The phone slips from his hand and falls. He was frozen in his place he couldn't talk couldn't move. It was obvious for shaan that he got a very bad news because his face turned pale. Khanak rushes to him trying to make him react.

Khanak: Karan kya hua? kya kaha usne? (she was hardly shaking karan to make him react) say something! what did he said karan? (he looks at her with his eyes filled of tears and breaks down hugging er tightly)

Karan: I want her back Khanak! please usse wapis le aao..please khanak

Khanak: karan calm down..tell me what happened

Karan: its all my fault..voh meri waje se chali gaayi khanak I did this (he said in between his sobs) yeh sab meri waje se hua hai please mujhe Shilpa ko wapis dedo khanak

Khanak: don't say that karan its not your fault..yeh sab tho taqdeer hai don't blame yourself (he breaks the hug looking at her)

Karan: I have to there..mujhe Mumbai jaana hai usse dhoondne

Khanak: haan hum sab jaayenge but you need to calm down first (he looks at shaan who was watching them with teary eyes and he walks toward him)

Karan: shaan!..plz tum Mumbai ke tickets book karo I need to go back now and find her (shaan wipes his tears and does so. Khanak walks towards karan and rests her hand on his shoulder to comfort him)

Karan: usse kuch nahin ho sakta (he whispers) voh mujhe aise chod ke nahin jaa sakti..

Shaan: what do you mean its impossible?! (he shouts) mujhe Mumbai ke tickets chahiye why don't you understand that?

Lady: dekhiye sir because of the plane crash all the flights got cancelled try and understand

Shaan: you try and understand hume vahan jaane ki bohut zaroori hai uss plane mein humari ek dost…(he holds back his words) listen the flights are not cancelled forever are they? So just tell me when is all that crap about to end and when we can go back?

Lady: hold on (she quickly checks) sir agar aap wait kar sakte hain tho kal subah 6 baje ki flight hai

Shaan: please book kijiye aap (he gave her the details and cuts the phone) kal subah ki flight hai aaj ki sab cancel hue hain

Karan: thanks yaar...(he looks around him and was feeling not well he was suffocating in that room and needed to go out) main...I need to go out

Khanak: I'm coming with you

Karan: nahin khanak (he looks at her) I need to be alone..please (she wasn't convinced)

Khanak: but Karan...

Shaan: khanak...(she looks at him and his silence made her understand that he really needed to be alone right now. Karan just leaves the room not looking back).

It's been hours now that Karan had left the hotel. Even thought she trusted shaan by let karan go she was still worried about him. When karan was angry at himself he always ended up hurting himself somehow. She was looking at her phone every now and then wondering if she should call him or wait.

Khanak: don't you think I should call him now? Or maybe we should go find him (shaan sighs and sits next to her)

Shaan: don't worry khanak he is fine I'm sure about that

Khanak: how Shaan? how can you be so sure? What if he did something stupid to him? You don't know him Shaan par voh humesha khud ko hurt karta hai jab voh aide halat mein hai (she said desperately)

Shaan: main janta hoon ke nobody knows him better than you but main yeh bhi janta hoon ke voh kuch nahin karega because he wants to find Shilpa...aur jab tak usse theek se pata nahin chalta ke shilpa kahan hai aur kiss halat mein hain I can assure you that nothing's gonna happen to him

Khanak: what's next shaan? agar shilpa hume Mumbai mein naa mili tho? What if...(she stops not able to continu what she was about to say and shuts her eyes covering her mouth and crying like a kid. Shan wraps his arms around her caressing her long dark hair) how am I going to handle all this shaan? If something happened to Shilpa he wont survive..I'm helpless shaan..I'm so helpless

Shaan: shhh..calm down khanak (he whispers) everything's gonna be fine...I promise

Karan was at the beach as usual. He loved being there watching the sea and find peace. But he wasn't looking for peace right how could he? He would surely find it once his eyes see her again but right he needed his answer. He needed to know that she was fine and safe and for that he had to wait. He had to wait a few hours but his life's most unbearable ones.

Karan: don't do this to me Shona (he whispered to himself) mujhe itni badi saza mat do..I need you in my life (he closes his eyes) please don't do this to me...(tears rolled down his cheeks. His phone rang he thought it must be khanak but when he saw that shaan was calling him his heart started beating faster thinking he might have some news so he quickly answers) haan shaan kuch pata chala?

Shaan: nahin karan..I'm sorry yaar..but khanak ko tumhari bohut fikr ho rahi hai and..

Karan: what shaan (he noticed his heavy voice and got worried) what happened to her?

Shaan: karan she really needs you right now..she was badly crying and now she fell asleep but..she if not fine karan

He gets worried for her and cuts the phone informing shaan that he is coming.

In no time karan was already there, he couldn't let anything happen to khanak by his mistake.

He enters the room and she was sleeping and shaan was sitting near her. He explains her condition to karan that how worried and scared she is and how badly she cried and ended up sleeping. Karan sits near her and holds her hand feeling guilty once again. He was so lost in his pain that he forgot her..he forgot his Sunshine. He kisses her hand softly and it made her open her eyes.

Khanak: karan? (she said weakly)

Karan: I'm here sunshine (he whispered)

Khanak: are you fine? (she asked still worried)

Karan: khanak I'm fine...tum please pareshan mat ho itna mere liye (she tried to sit on the bed and he helped her)

Khanak: I'm sorry (she made a baby expression) par tum itni der se gaaye the tho...

Karan: I know sunshine...but I really needed to be alone..but now I'm here and I'm fine. (he holds her hands again) I'm really sorry khanak..I was so lost in my problems that I forgot you

Khanak: don't say that karan..we are talking about shilpa here and we both know her importance

Karan: khanak no matter how important shilpa is for me..you'll always be my priority. You're the most important person of my life..you're my Sunshine, my strength and if something happens to you what am I supposed to do? (he moves closer and sits besides her) come here (he wraps his arms around her and she rests her head on his shoulder) you really need to stop worrying about me so much

Khanak: fine...but don't say you're fine again because you're not infact none of us is (he sighs)

Karan: I'm actually terrified...but you're with me so..I'm sure everything's gonna be fine (he looks at her and she looked very tired and weak she needed to rest it was obvious) khanak you need to rest for a while you look very tired

Khanak: aur tum?

Karan: main yahin hoon don't worry

Relieved she decides to sleep for a while holding his hand tight. Shaan was watching them silently all this while. He was just amazed by the relation these two had. Never in his entire life has he seen such a pure and deep bond between two people. These two were ready to give their life for each other if it was needed infact that's what karan did he thought. He has sacrificed his whole life for khanak. He has closed his eyes on his dreams so she can realise hers. One thing he was sure about..these cannot live without each other.

Karan walks towards him and sits next to shaan.

Karan: thanks yaar..tumne aaj khanak ka khial rakha when I wasn't here

Shaan: itna tho main kar hi sakta hoon after all she is my friend (karan rubs his face)

Karan: I can believe I got so selfish today...infact since we are in Goa (shaan looks at him surprised)

Shaan: selfish? Dude maine tum jaisa selfless insaan apni poori life mein nahin dekhi hai. infact kabhi kabhi yakeen nahin hota ki koi aisa bhi ho sakta hai (karan looks at him wondering why he was saying this) jo kuch tum khanak ke liye kar chuke ho voh aaj kal bhai behen nahin kart eek doosre ke liye...I mean tum apni poori zindagi khanak ki khushi ke hisaab se jeete aaye ho..and the way you behaved today was absolutely normal you are worried for the woman you love (karan's expression changes into shock. Shaan knew for him and shilpa all this while. Shaan shuts his eyes realising his mistake then looks back at him)

Karan: you..you know for me and shilpa? (he just nods) shilpa ne bataya tujhe?

Shaan: khanak...I mean galati se uske mooh se nikla so don't get upset

Karan: no why whould I...infact I should have told you long time ago

Shaan: karan all I am saying is that you're unfair to yourself. You don't live the way you want to and I think it's high time to change that (karan looks down he knew shaan was right but its been years he lived that way how was he supposed to change that so easily)

Karan: you think she's fine? (he whispered) shilpa..

Shaan: I hope so..I really hope so…

Finaly after hours of wait they reach Mumbai. The last minutes were just endless it seemed like they were in that plane for hours. Out of the airport a car was already waiting for them and they decide to first go and check shilpa's house and if they don't find her there will come the turn of hopitals unfortunately.

Karan was driving really fast he couldn't wait for another minute and in no time they were in front of her house. It looked quite and empty. Karan kocks at the door but no one opens he tries again but in vain. Shaan looks around and saw a neighbourg and asked about Shilpa but the old man said he has not seen her for the past few days. It wasn't helping them and they didn't know what to do. Karan checks around the house notices an open window in the kitchen. He gets inside the house through it and opens the main door for shaan and khanak. The old man was looking at them surprised and shaan smiles to him.

Shaan: don't worry uncle hum shilpa ke dost hain we are allowed to do this

The old man shakes his head and goes back home. Even inside it looked like no one was here for a while, everything was perfectly at its place.

Khanak: I don't think she is here

Shaan: now that we are here I think we should check the whole house once

Karan: you're right..you two check here I'm going upstairs

They divided in two and get to work. Shaan and khanak were checking every corners of every single room if not finding shilpa at least something that could help them to know she was fine.

Karan was climbing the stairs looking around him carefully. He checked a few rooms and one door catches his eyes..he was automatically pulled towards that door..that room. His heart was feeling her presence there..he slowly walks towards the room and opens the door. In was dark inside, the window's blinds closed to prevent the sun to come in. he notices the shadow of a figure on the floor. Following it his eyes fell on someone sitting on the floor. She was here. her face resting on her knees with the help of her arms. A tear escapes from his eye..feeling relieved to see her…she was fine. Unable to react he stood there. Shilpa slowly raises her head as her heart beats got suddenly faster. She was feeling his presence he was here she was sure about it. She slowly turns her face towards the light which was coming from the door and saw him. In shock she slowly stands up looking at him with her teary eyes. She took a step towards him and it forced karan to do the same. Step by step they slowly got close to each other. No words were coming from their mouth their eyes spoke volumes..their tears, their pain. Karan slowly raises his hand towards her face and with his finger slightly caresses her cheek. Shilpa smiles weakly and as if she was supposed to see him before, she fainted and karan catches her.

Karan: Shilpa?! (he shouts)
