CHAPTER 3 Next day Khanak woke up and sat with her back resting on the top wall and a small smile played on her lips thinking about last night's vow she took with Saaket . When she took blessings from her in-laws. She still thought of it as a beautiful dream,a dream she would not want to end. The promising eyes with which Saaket assured her to be his responsibility as well as the best thing happened to him. Her trance was broken by the ringing cell. She hit the accept button with a broad smile Hey I was thinking about you only. Missing me? Hayyee you have already started imagining things with me? That's a good news for me said Saaket mischievously. Huh? Stop it with a blush on her face which as usual Saaket caught. Oh c'mon ya .Now officially I can flirt with you .Remember we got engaged yesterday. Saaket smirked. Ohk whatever.How come you called so early? Actually wanting more of previous talk but pretending the reverse. And no office today? With authority in her tone. I took off from office today. I told Shantanu that I wanted a day off to spend some time with you. Saaket told her making sure she listen to it . Payal came out from washroom and noticed Khanak talking on the phone and spoke aloud with intention to make the other end hear it Di I know you are his private property now but c'mon ya cant you guys keep away even for a single minute. Khanak got out from bed running with a pillow in her hand trying to catch Payal Shutup you moron .We have some important discussion going on. Payal with a naughty smile on her face I know you guys must be deciding about the HoneyMoon place. And ran out of the room. Mama tell payu she is always having these disgusting thoughts.Tell her to shut up .yelled Khanak . All the while this was happening the Saaket could hear it.When Khanak came back to talk to him she said Sorry ya this Payu she always keeps bugging me around. That's ok my sweetheart she is not at all wrong in any way.Ohk before you start blabbering let me tell you. I have this day only for you be ready in another hour and I will come to pick you up we are going out today. Its a surprise . Saaket replied But Where are we going? And how come that blockhead allowed you for an off? Khanak asked. My darling it's a surprise and surprises are meant to be hidden .And I told you Shantanu is not that cheeky also to not to understand my condition of wanting to be with you.Trust me he is a nice guy. Just because he can not express his feelings does not mean he can not be aware of the things. Saaket said with an understanding tone. K whatever .I will get ready .See you at home in an hour. Bye .Take care. Khanak said bye. K sweetheart bye. Miss me Saaket hung up and immediately dialed Shantanu's number. Hey buddy is everything set I told Khanak and she is gonna come with me. Yes everything is done. Just the chocolates you had asked for are yet to be arranged. I have told Santam to do it. I will call you once its done but I guarantee it will be done before you arrive Shantanu said. What?? Saaket shouted as if his whole life depended on it. That's the most vital thing that's not complete. You don't know her she will kill me by breaking engagement with me if she doesn't see any chocolates. Saaket exaggerated you don't know how much she loves chocolates. That's one of the reasons she has agreed to marry me. I had promised her, everyday I will give her at least one Cadbury that too silk. What !!Stop being dramatic by over reacting. I told you it will be done in another hour. Shantanu said with a poker-face. Bye now and stop worrying.I think you dont want to get killed by not reaching Khanak's on time. And the moment Shantanu took her name he could sense himself inclining towards the weird feelings he had yesterday on seeing her. And said a short bye to Saaket and hung up. Bye .Beep Beep Beep Beep. Saaket could hear the engaged tone. Sharma's house.. Bell Rang Ragini opened the door.She sees Saaket standing there at the door with a broad smile on his face .He bends down and touch her feet. Beta how come you are here so early morning .You dint go to office today?I hope everything is fine at home. Yes ma everything is well.Khanak dint tell you we had a plan made ? Saaket with a worried smile and frown.Thinking what if ragini does not allow. Payal was in the living room itself having an ear to the conversation You Know ma Saaket Jeeju cant just spend a single minute without Di. Also they were doing there love talks on the phone early morning. Shut up Payu stop irritating my poor daughter and Damadji.looking at Saaket who was embarrassed at this statement of Payal. Khanak entered the hall after getting ready for the date while Saaket,Ragini were having conversation.She was wearing a white Punjabi chicken suit. She was looking pretty in it. Mama I forgot to tell you that I am going out with Saaket. Sorry I dint tell you before ,as soon as he told me I went to have bath and thought I will tell you later. That's fine Aashu you can go. When Saaket is there with you I don't need to think about your safety. Ragini smiled You guys can go ahead have a nice day both of you. Thankyou ma .Thankyou mama both Khanak and Saaket said in synch. And left. In the car After they had reached a significant distance ahead Saaket stopped the car to the left side of the road .He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and asked Khanak to tie it on the eyes to cover them she did that without any drama as she was fond of surprises and such treatment. With covered eyes she asked Saaket How far is the place we are going? 22kms.It will take us around 1 hour to reach there. Saaket replied looking straight to not to get disturbed by looking at her. Then why have you covered my eyes here itself .Khanak frowned. Because I want to see your expressions when you see that place and if you see the route may be you will guess where am I taking you.Now please don't make me look at you and concentrate on driving. Saaket answered How does looking at me disturbs you? Khanak asked My darling the thing is that looking at you makes me lose my control over my self. Got your answer? He smiled at her seeing the red color creeping on her cheeks. Around after 15 minutes Saaket gets a call Shantanu Calling it flashes. Hello? Saaket did not take his name as he dint want Khanak to come to know that he was taking Shantanu's help. So is everything ready? What? Person on other end No actually he Santam said he will take another half an hour But Shantanu..tsk..tsk..Saaket bit his tongue for taking his name and was looking at Khanak from the corner of his eye to check if she noticed it. Dude why so long I am almost there ya he shouted. And was busy in arguing when a hand hardly hit on his upper arm. Ouch Ouch Khanak stop hitting me. Khanak bellowed I thought you are doing it all alone for me and you are taking help of that insensitive creature Shantanu.Why? She again started hitting him but since she had her eyes covered the aim she made went wrong and went straight on the gears. When this happened Saaket could not control the steering and went and dashed against one of the trees. Khanak was pushed by a force and banged her head against the tree. And in her half conscious state she could see Saaket lying there on the bonnet with blood around him on it. Khanak forwarded her hand to reach him but due to her conscious completely draining out she failed just murmuring Saa..k…et.. On the other end Shantanu heard this and was shocked screaming out his friends name Saaket Saaket afraid of the unwanted ,he dint even feel like thinking that dreadful state. Khanak … Saaket..Shit Darn it.. and strode towards the main door of his cabin

CHAPTER 4

Shantanu got them into the best hospital of Mumbai.He informed Saaket's and Khanak's parents. The moment they came to know this they were in the hospital in no time. Shantanu was waiting in the hospital to know about conditions of both of them.He saw a shadow moving towards the operation theatre where both were being operated Well the girl is quite fine now she will become conscious in another 2hrs but since a foreign particle has entered the guy's brain due to which his one of the brain tissues is swollen. He is in coma.

The word coma struck Shantanu's senses in such a way that all his acuteness went blank to understand the further part. All he could think about now was how to convey this to Arnav and Radhika.

In the blank state Shantanu carried his weight against gravity and sat on the chairs. But the sight in front caught his attention a gurney on which Khanak was laid. He followed it to the room allotted . From the small window slit he observed her lying with those white clamps and dressings around her delicate hand that showed her protruding veins. Shantanu could no more stay there looking at the poor thing lying there with no life in it. Shantanu heart squeezed on seeing the ring on her left hand ring finger. He dint understand what it was that made a tear drop trickle down his eye feeling very sorry for debilitated thing. And left the place.

He went towards Saaket's bed where he saw Arnav and Radhika sitting still with hopes in eyes. It seemed as if they were looking at their mass of flesh without life. Only parents can say how it feels to see their child in such condition.

Alarm of Operation theatre started buzzing which dint go unnoticed by Shantanu ,all the doctors rushed in having a professional conversation that was not understood by him. Saaket table was surrounded by all doctors and started with their task. He was given a shock which was repeated around 5-6 times and he was brought to senses slowly. All the relatives waiting outside the theatre were informed about the condition who were also told that he was not to survive for more than a while. He can be losing his life anytime .

All entered the room with moist eyes looking at Saaket. Saaket signed Shantanu to come closer and just eyed at his ring in the left hand which shocked Shantanu and also got what his best friend tried to tell him. This all happened in front of all three of their parents just Khanak was missing. No one objected instead were proud of their son, son-in-law and as a person. Shantanu could not refuse as it was Saaket last wish and agreed to it.

Saaket Khanak cried out loud when she saw him lying helpless on the bed. He signaled her to come closer. She moved towards him as if an unseen force pushed her and also saline drops rolled on her cheeks. Saaket looked at Shantanu and asked him to do what he was most afraid of. Shantanu pulled out a chain of black and golden beeds from his pocket and unwillingly went near Khanak and finally put it around her neck. Saaket with asking eyes told Khanak to remove the ring from his finger and put it in Shantanu's. The ritual ended but Khanak couldent stop herself from doing it as Saaket wanted it to happen.

I am sure that Shantanu will keep you happy the way I would have. I love you sweet heart but now I have to go. And please baby take your care.I will always remain bothered about it. Saaket said in broken words.

No I wont. I will always need you around to do It. With hiccups .

With a smile on his dull face Oh my darling I knew you would say it that's why I got you married to Shantanu.

Please Shantanu say that you will always be with her. Never let her feel incomplete because of me.Please say it Saaket with pleading eyes.

Yes I promise buddy. Yes I will. Shantanu blabbered out.

Whole room went in silence for some time. Khanak sitting next to the bed with eyes fixed on Saaket and Shantanu looking at Saaket with promising eyes.

BeepBeepBeep BeepBeepBeep beeped the machine. Khanak caressing that lifeless hand in her hand as if trying to wake him up, but no response. Arnav and Radhika wept out loud on this loss of theirs. Deepak and Ragini and Arnav and Radhika were consoled by Sunil And Madhavi who were trying to do the thing that would never get fixed up.

Khanak kept staring at the dead body on the bed who was her would be husband,her childhood friend. She still felt it as a nightmare ,a dangerous nightmare. She stopped moving but her tears were unstoppable .

Sharma's house

Khanak was brought home now. She would always sit in her room and stare at the ring hours togther. She would keep on rolling it between her index finger and thumb. Khanak never came out of her room always she would think about the time she spent with Saaket and get angry on why she got married to Shantanu.

1 month past she was at her home only.
