That's wrong, LOL... the bride and groom hold hands only.

In South Indian weddings, only groom walks in the front. Bride never walks before the groom. At least not in any Tamil wedding I have seen.

Groom always holds the right hand of the bride, with his right hand.

This is the tradition in Tamil weddings.

Don't know abt Gujarati/Marwari/North Indian wedding.

Why they hold hands? Wikipedia has good explanation. All those who are not familiar with Hindu weddings, pls check wikipedia (I know, I am a fan of wiki, LOL)...

The bride and groom are taking a vow (vachan), together, so they hold hands.

In Hindu religion, fire is very important. Fire god (agni) is the witness to the wedding. Even if there is no other witness, there should be fire, according to the scriptures (I think). That's why they always say in TV serials 'agni ko saakshi maankar' we have married, meaning 'our marriage has happened with fire god as witness, and is therefore sacred'.
