She gets up and locks the door from the inside. She can hear it ring a couple times, before he answers.
Before he can speak she takes off
Khanak: First off, I am NOT having your kids (responding to her Dad's blessing)(agitated)
Shaan: And secondly?
KhanakLrealizing what she had just said) Umm''. I cant marry you.
Shaan: I always thought wedding comes first?
Khanak: Iam not kidding!
Shaan: Hi! Khanak (soft)
Khanak: Aapne aada se kya kaha? (accusing)
Shaan: I didn't speak with him, he apparently told Dadi he would have to speak with your first (matter of fact), so he blew me off.
Khanak: Why are you doing this?
Shaan: You said "an affair is not part of the deal" so I reworded it to a marriage.
Khanak: Now EVERYBODY knows!
Shaan: Did you want to elope?
Khanak: We have NOTHING in common! You know that!
Shaan: Well figure something out!
Khanak: I don't speak your language, I didn't go to the same college, I don't have the same group of friends.
Shaan: Looks like you've given it some thought (grins)
Khanak: Aapki Mummy mujhe bilkul pasand nahi karti.
Shaan: She will get over it Khanak.
Khanak: Kya unko pata hai aapne mujhse shaadi karne ki marzi jatai hai?
Shaan: Ofcourse! Why will she not?
Khanak: Phir bhi who maan gayi? (shocked)
Shaan: Not really. We can talk about it''Its not important now'' where are you?
Khanak: Kyon?... Shantanu! (troubled)
Shaan: First time in a week.
Khanak: This is not right!
Shaan: I don't see anything wrong with it.
Khanak: Weve kissed what'' two times? Three? And you want to marry me?
Shaan: Four to be precise, we kissed twice two weeks ago at the wedding (husky)
Khanak: You remember? (stunned)
Shaan: If its about you Khanak''.. then yes, I do! (throaty)
Khanak: This is crazy! You are crazy!
Shaan: I agree Khanak'' I want you and there was no other way to have you. (gruff)
Khanak: Thanks that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me (hurt)
Shaan: You know that already. Ive said it every time weve met
Khanak: So when you are done, will I receive a letter or an email perhaps? (hurt)
Hope you will give me enough time to pack.
Shaan(ignoring her jibe) I miss you here, in Matheran. Why did you take off like that?
Khanak: This is a family trip. Ive come here with my Kaka and kaki and parents
Shaan: When are you returning? Can I meet you at the airport?
Khanak: We don't do "airports", we took a bus, see right there! There is just so much difference between us (lamenting)
Shaan: Tum kis baat se naraaz ho? That you have to get married to me? I didn't ask you first? Your dad is happy? Dadi took the decision away from both of us?Or are you plain missing me as much as I am?(serious)
Khanak: I am so wrong for you. Dadi ko kya ho gaya?
Shaan: How did you come to that conclusion?
Khanak: Becoz, I don't stay up late, I don't drink alchohol, I don't dance, I don't party. I am dull, I cook at home, I have TV dinners and my favorite juice is mixed fruit or mango.
Shaan: Because it was Sooraj's fave?
There is a long tense silence.
Khanak: You never called me either. Not once''.. Ive been here two days. I was there all week, phir bhi aapne call nahi kiya. (accusing)
Shaan: what time are you getting home tomorrow?
If they cannot connect emotionally, its good enough to connect the only way they connect right now.
Khaank: Shaayad, raat ko, abhi bus ki booking nahi kee hai Aada ne. Kaka to Pune chaley jaayenge, hum Mumbai ki bus lenge.
Shaan: I can come see you.
Khanak: Dadar? (shocked)
Shaan: Haan!
The thought of seeing him fills her every pore with anticipation, with bliss.
Khanak: Raat ke 12 bhi baj sakte hain''' ya aur bhi late.
Shaan: Call me an hour ahead
She turns over and hugs a pillow, buries her face in it, it warms up, soothes her''.
Khanak: Mere saath Aada aur Bai bhi hongey. Who Tuesday ko ja rahe hain.
Shaan: That's fine! I will take you out to dinner on Monday nite? I want to see you Khanak
She reveled in the ecstasy of being wanted. Of disturbing him physically as much he did her. If they are married, every day promised to be this way. He would overwhelm her with his desire. He would understand how she craved for him, he would long for her as much. They would feverishly seek each other out''..
