Shaan: Why? (incredulous)

Nivs walks in at that exact moment, "So Gujral were you able to convince her?"

Shaan: Sorry! About what? (acting clueless)

Khanak is relieved.

Nivs: She didn't tell you?

Shaan: Ram and Nachiket's meeting tomorrow?

Nivs: No yaar! She is sick, I want her to get a cab''

Shaan continues to look at her while Nivs checks the multiple beeps on her phone

Khanak is sending a "No" through her eyes to him, he is mad but wont argue at this point.

Nivs looks up at Khanak, "Please hang on, ek aur quick call, will be right back, squeezes Khanak's elbow and is gone!

Khanak: Don't worry Nivs, I won't wait, I will leave,''.. please (hollers)

Khanak: Mujhe chalna chahiye (hesitates)

Shaan: Let me call my driver, PLEASE! (pleads)

Khanak (shocked) No! Hes prolly parked in the basement and most folks are returning from lunch now'' no''.. Shantanu, please (pleads)

Shaan: You are too stubborn, but I am going to walk you to the elevator'' nahi. Main kuch nahi sunoonga

When she tries to protest'..

Shaan: Is there a reason you are so shocked every time I call you?

Khanak (walking out of the room) I am not sure' (evasive)

Shaan opening the door for her "You don't have my number in your phone book do you?" (taunt)

Khanak: I only have two categories, Friends and Family.

She spends the next couple days at home, no phone calls or Ram, Nivs calls her a couple of times, she is worried , but she reassures her that all is well.

Shaan calls her both days

First on Wednesday evening when she is playing with her neighbor's daughter.

The little girl picks up the phone and hands it to her politely. "One child raised well" Khanak thinks.

Khanak: Hello (she doesn't look at the number)

Shaan does not speak

Khanak: Hello'''.. you shud just hang up if you dialed the wrong number you know.

Shaan: Hey! Its me Shaan

Khanak: Shantanu? (happy but wont show it)

Shaan: Aur kitne Shaan ko tum jaanti ho Khanak? (offended)

Khanak: Bus ek aur''..

Shaan: Not funny!

Khanak: Aapko koi kaam tha?

He hears the child in the background

Shaan: Where are you?

Khanak: Why?

Shaan: I hear a child''.

Khanak: My neighbor's daughter

Shaan visualizes her playing with that girl, on the divan''' she is so hands on' so probably that little girl must be having too much fun.

Shaan: If you are well enough to play shouldn't you be back at work?

Khanak: Thanks! (sarcastic) I am sure Ram is doing a great job covering for me.

Shaan: I don't know about that (angry)

Khanak: Shudnt you be asking how I am doing first? (accusing)

Shaan: I was just worried about a couple of work things actually.(hides a smile)

She doesn't want to sit in all day meetings so decides to go into her office on Thursday for part of the day, Ritu is travelling so there is no one home, she has been gone from Wednesday, not expected back for a week.

The Matheran offsite was finally around the corner, two weekends away, after being postponed by over a month due to Rahat's Sao Paulo visit. His brither was involved in a legal tangle there and so Rahat had to be gone for 3 or so weeks.

Ritu was excited Dhruv-Trishna wedding date was nearing, there was a excess of events associated with it that was expected to begin shortly. Ritu had counted, mehandi, sangeet, dance nite and what not. She had counted Khanak in for all events.

Khanak had no plans to go to any!

Her Aada called asking, worrying about her, she used the opportunity to tell him she wanted to decline Nirav's proposal. He was very displeased and shocked, but she told him, she could not marry for another year until Casa was completed. She told him the industry was so small and well connected, word tended to spread around and it would not enhance her goodwill in anyway if her future employer in Ahmendabad were to find out she had abandoned such a prestigious project mid way. He promised to talk to her about it after a month, knowing him he would!

He told her he wanted to see her married by the end of the year, and if he had to speak with Ram about it he would. She had to strongly dissuade him from doing that. Her Bai felt the "city's ways" were getting to her and she was also beginning to fool herself into believing that she could live alone and "enjoy" life. She gently warned her that "love affairs" were not something any Mistry children ever got involved in and if she was thinking in that direction she should give up the idea.

She wanted to feel overjoyed but felt ashamed and guilty at her inability to be honest. She was not even sure if Shaan wanted a casual affair, yet she had done something very serious'''''just let go of a marriage proposal. Something her parents had wanted for her since a month after Sooraj had passed away.

She might have just been Shaan's casual entertainment, yet she allowed herself to make her life decisions upon it. "He would get a hearty laugh out of it if ever he find out". "A dreary, bourgeois, widow had just inflated his already spiraling ego"

Nivs had emailed her about happenings at work and Khanak was able to catch up on most client emails before she went in on Friday. They were celebrating the 20^th anniversary week starting the Friday and all the Corp staff were asked to dress in traditional or formal clothes.

She wore a peach chiffon, tied her hair in a high ponytail, and wore a pair on looong dangly earrings, that had a peach color bead, almost touching her shoulders. She did not wear anything on her neck''..

The gal from accounting met her in the elevator and again complimented her look and saree, Khanak decided she would make sure she showed up when ever she did going forward'''.

The atmosphere is festive, playful and not very serious, partly because it's a Friday and also because it was the beginning of anniversary week.

Paula greeted her with a big smile, she was surprised to even see her, but Paula rolled her eyes in the direction of Ajmera's corner office to indicate he was already in.

She went into the conference room, Aman was in there setting up his stuff for the day.

Aman: Hi! Stranger, kidhar rehti ho tum?

Khanak: Hmmm'' Monday Tuesday Singapore, Wednesday Thursday Bangkok. (smiles shyly)

Aman: Mujhe laga (smiles) Achha meri didi is weekend Dubai ja rahi hai, (thrilled)Main shaayd jaaoonga aaj sham ko.

Khanak: (hears the door open, she knows who its is but doesn't turn around) aaj sham ko7:10 ki local (deal?)

Shaan consults a sheaf of papers lying on Nivs' pile, he is wearing a white shirt and black trousers''

The moment she says "7:10 ki local" she is drawn to his bent head

He looks up at her, watches her earrings bob,

Aman (suddenly very cool) No actually, I think I will go tomorrow, tum nikal lena, I might not be able to'' ek minute aata hoon

Khanak tears herself away from Shaan's gaze, but Aman is already walking away.

She is confused'' "Kya hua?" she follows him to the door''..

Shaan has shut it and is in front of her so she is leaning on it''

Khanak: Wonder why he changed his mind so suddenly? (nervous)

Shaan: (crowding her) Good morning Khanak! You look'''' peachy (husky)

Khanak: Why did he leave? (evasive)

Shaan leaning on his left hand''.. flicks her earring with his right...........second finger and thumb'''like a pendulum, she grabs it and stops it.

Shaan: Do you have matching earrings for all your sarees? (checks out her saree)

Khanak: Most! That does not answer my question'..

Shaan: Have you heard of the unwritten guy rule? If a guy is pursuing a girl, none of his friends are allowed to show any interest in her.

She can feel the heat travel from her toes to her face in a few seconds

11 AM Break time

Nivs: You should try some they are soooo good! (chewing on a piece of blueberry muffin)

Khanak: they do smell good. I am getting hungry too'.(takes a piece from Nivs)

Khanak: Its delicious!

Shaan is typing away on his keyboard, listens but does not pitch in

Nivs: Do you want me to go get some for you? (gets up)

Khanak: Where did you get it from? Break room? Or Sonaliis desk? (Rahat's admin)

Nivs: Oh! No! This was from Shaan's desk (she starts checking her phone)

Khanak:I 'll pass''' I don't want any (peeved)

Shaan looks up at her amused'' but doesn't say anything in front of Nivs, he has a muffin on a plate by his mouse..

She looks at him fiercely and repeats "Nope! I wont eat it" (just for his ears)

Nivs walks out, Shaan grabs the plate and walks by her, she types away furiously

Shaan: Khanak

Khanak: Mujhe nahi chahiye. Aap khayiye.

Shaan: Did it taste awful the moment you realized it was Mahi's? (softly)

Picks up the last wedge and takes a bite, offers the rest to her lazily "its yours" (mocks)

Khanak: (accepts it starts chewing on it without realizing it was his) It does not matter to me at all (smiles sweetly''There! I proved a point)

Shaan: You just ate my muffin Khanak! I brought those today!😳😳😳

Looks up at him in shock

was it necessary for shaan to say that he studied biology n so he knows things..she already is embarassed..
shaan's concern for khanak is well known fact..but both r playing very well..

I was going to hit the sack & 1 final check here & there u have it up!! 😃 It was delicious & chewy!! Should I say moist & chewy like a muffin? 😆 Seriously how do u think of these witty dialogs? I go laughing away to glory! 'Arch nemesis' & 'Inapt Friday' was too good! 😆 Oh & how could I forget the biology comment!! 😆 And again I could see his expressions here, cool, casual & calm with a slight grin lingering over his lips! 😃 And most of the times after she riles him up she is the one to back down all high & dry! That phone call where he asked her whether she wants him to worry for her................OMG that was such an 'oomph' moment for me! 😃 Its an open provocation on his part & she had nothing to say but to keep the phone down running away from his query! Too good! 😆
