'hmm...' shan put the receiver down as he whispered to himself, 'khak good night, this is a terrible night!' he took a deep breath, before turning around, 'Khanak, I'm... yeh ladki kahan gayi?' he went to the bathroom and knocked, 'Khanak?', she wasn't there.

'pata nahi khush hoon, ya dukhi ke chali gayi... Uh!' he grazed his hands through his hair, 'main kya kar raha tha! Mujhe kya ho gaya tha! Main Khanak ko... woh mere bare main kya sooch rahi hogi?! Oh my god, woh bechari ... I should go and look for her... nah i should give her some time to process what happened, right?' he asked himself, ' thodi der rukta hoon, if she doesn't come back then I will go look for her...'

He went back and sat on his desk, 'yaar! Abhi theek kehta hai, mujhse bada idiot koi ho nahi sakta... sivai uske...'

Abhi looked down at Khanak's letter for what seemed like the hundredth time. An hour had passed, he had re-read the letter and had recalled his first and only love, and Khanak's innocent questions still echoed in his mind, and so did the image of the day he had given up on love.

A weak smile spread across his face, but his eyes held the sadness he had contained within himself since four years. He threw his head back and closed his eyes as his answer to Khanak's questions escaped his lips, "haan Khanak ..."

Khanak went and sat on the bench of the Khandelwal mansion's garden, her heart was still beating fast against her chest, her breath was still heavy and she knew that her cheeks were still red like a beet root. 'yeh abhi abhi kya hua? Main aur Shantanu... hum dono... main unhe ...'

She closed her eyes and bit her lips in a mix of confusion and disbelief. 'yeh mujhe ho kya raha hai! Jab bhi woh paas hote hai, toh saas nahi leh pati... par jab woh door hote hai tab, unke paas aane ka intezar rehta hai!' she looked up at the heavens, 'Bhagwan yeh kya ho raha hai! Aur Abhi! Unhe bhi abhi hi Delhi jaana tha! Woh hote toh unse baat kar pati, ya baat karne ki koshish toh karti!'

She looked around the garden for a few moments as she recalled what had happened, the anticipation, and the disappointment when the phone had rung, ' kya main chahati thi?... kya main... chahati hoon ki phone nahi bajta? Kya main Shantanu ko....! nahi! Aisa nahi ho sakta! Main Shantanu ko... kahi main Shantanu se pyaar! Nahi yeh nahi ho sakta, main Shantanu se ... nahi, pyaar?, nahi!'

She twisted the pallu of her sari as she thought about her insight, ' main kya karoo! Abhi bhi pata nahi khat kabh likhkar bhejenge! Tab tak kya karoo! Kya... HAAN! mujhe unse door rehna chahiye... haan main unse door rahoongi, phir sab theek ho jayega... phir job hi main sooch rahi hoon, yeh jo bhi mehsoos kar rahi hoon sab... sab chala jayega! Main aab Shantanu se door rahoongi... par kya reh paongi?'

'How dare he! "tum itni bhi important nahi ho ki main tumhara peecha karoon"', she mimicked Abhi as she threw herself on the bed, 'Ah! Bed, comfy bed, I will sleep here comfortably; god the flight killed my back! Hmm...' she closed her eyes, and tried to sleep.

'But what does he mean by "main itni bhi important nahi hoon!", she got up and sat on her knees, ' main usse miss karti thi, aur isliye Delhi aaye aur woh! Stupid! Idiot! Woh sorry bolne ke bajaye mujhe attitude de raha hai! Nahi sorry bola tha... Par attitude bhi toh dikhaya! And he was so rude! Aane do usse! Main usse baat nahi karne wali! I'm not important right! Fine! This not-so-important-person will not talk to him! Woh chahe toh Khanak ko poore delhi ki photos bhej sakta hai! I don't care... main usse baat nahi karne wali!'

'yeh Khanak kaha reh gayi! Itna time ho gaya hai! I think i should go and look for her now.' He started walking towards the door, but stopped, 'par main usse kahoonga kya? Koi aise situation main kya keh sakta hai? I mean, i almost kissed my wife, who I'm about to divorce in four months, while my girlfriend is in Delhi, and now I have to say sorry to my wife for almost kissing her... god! Main hi in difficult situations main kyun phasta hoon!', he took a deep breath, 'apne bad luck pe baad mein roona, pehle yeh sooch tu Khanak ko kya kahega? Paani pi ke aata hoon, refresh ho jaonga... toh shayad mere brain wpas kaam karne lage!,' he opened the door, but Khanak already stood there, holding her pallu, probably contemplating whether to come in or not.

She looked up , shock on her face too, ' Shantanu!'
