Every poetry ahs a character which has a great potential but is ignored by the poet,a dn so inspite of having great potential they fail to drag notice. characters like these have been termed as Kavye upekhita/upekhistaa(ignored in the poetry)

Urmila is one such caharcter sho ispite of having great potential has been cast in shadow by the master poet Valmiki himself and has been totally or highly ignored by poets of later times in different otehr versions of Ramayan

Urmila was the second daughter of KIng janak, and she was married to Lxman. Like laxman was ever devoted to Lord Ram, Urmila had an uncanny attachment with Sita. She was a very devoted wife too. When Kaikeyi ordered Ram to take up vanavas, and laxman decided to acompany him, urmila had wanted to accompany laxman too. but she at that time was carrying laxman's child, so had to remain in teh palace.

post ayodhya kand urmila had been seldom mentioned in ramayan ,although in later part, ie is uttakanda it was aid, ever since laxman left urmila has led the wife of a brahmacharini scrificing all her comforts

i agree with u. her's was an important character but her presence is ignored.she was a dutiful daughter, sister ,daughter in law & wife.

but is it true that she was carrying laxmanji's child at that time???? in ramayan it was shown that laxmanji asks her to take care of king dashratha & the mothers in his absence

I dont think Urmila was pregnant at the time Shree Ram was banished to the forrest. Shree Ram was exiled pretty much as soon as he returned from Mitila, which was when all the brothers got married. I doubt Urmila was carrying child then.

But I do agree that the importance of Urmila was ignored in the Ramayan. However she will always be worshiped as one of the greatest pati vratha stri's ever. 😊

yes she wss carrying laxman's child which made it easy for laxman to make her stay at mithila, part from other reaons he gave her.i have gone through many books where this fact had been stated.

and even if lord ram was banished it was after some time, when king dasarath was preparing to declare him the crown prince.it was not immediately after the return

Poet Maithili Sharan Gupt wrote Saket. In that, he has very beautifully described the feelings of Urmila. It may be poet's imagination but it is really nice reading. 😊

i agree tht the sacrifice of URMILA was equal to the sacrifice of SITAJI as in absense of LAXMAN ,URMILA took care of all the 3 mothers & she kept waiting for LAXMAN for 14 long years !!
