Hanuman is flabbergasted to hear his mother's order.
Hanuman - I cannot do this mother.
Anjani - You promised me.
Hanuman - If I do this, then my lord's promise will be broken. Do you want me to oppose my lord?
Anjani - Whatever. You have to honour my promise.
Hanuman (to Kashi naresh) - So this is the method you found to escape from Sri Ram's wrath. Don't you feel ashamed creating a rift between mother and son? If you are brave, then fight with Sri Ram in battle ground.
Anjani - Enough. You have no right to insult him.
Kashi naresh pleads - Please save me, Pavanputra. I will always be grateful to you.
Hanuman - King, you know that Sun and Moon can waver from their paths but Sri Ram will never waver from his vow. Even if I want, I cannot do anything.
Kashi naresh - If you want, you can do anything. Please save me.
Hanuman - You cannot be saved. Why are you putting me in dharm-sankat? You should happily accept the punishment from Lord Sri Ram and make your afterlife good by being killed in his hands.
Anjani - Bajrang, he needs a solution and not preaching.
Hanuman - Forgive me, mother. I cannot obey your orders by going against Lord Sri Ram. He has to die.
Anjani - Is this the value of your promise? Is this what I have taught you from your childhood that you break your promise?
Hanuman - Sri Ram resides in every pore of my body. If you want, I will fight with the whole world, I will stop the Earth, I will dry the sea, I will change day to night and night today. But mother, I cannot go against my lord. Please forgive me.
Hanuman goes away. But he is restless. He is not sure whether keeping his mother's promise is more important to him or his lord's promise.
Hanuman goes to Ram.
Ram and Hanuman talk through their minds and without using words. (Does anybody in this forum know telepathy?😊)
Ram - Hanuman, you have no right to disobey your mother, who has given birth to you. By dissapointing your mother, you will displease both her and me.
Hanuman - You are my lord. I cannot go against you.
Ram - Hanuman, in this world, everybody is bound by dharma. Everybody comes across many people. He has duty towards all of them - towards siblings, towards friends, towards master, towards king, towards motherland. But the duty towards one's mother comes before all these because if she had not brought you to this world, then all these other duties would not have arisen. Therefore Hanuman, obey your mother.
Hanuman - Lord, if you are saying this, then I am forced to go against you.
Ram - I will do my duty and you do yours. But nobody other than you and me should know about this order of mine.
Hanuman - As you wish.
Hanuman goes to Anjani.
Hanuman - Mother, I know that I was wrong that I did not listen to you. But I was bound by devotion towards Lord Sri Ram. I know that I have not been a good son. But I am your son. Please forgive me.
Anjani is quiet.
Hanuman threatens (in a jocular way) - If you do not forgive me, then I will take Kashi naresh to Lord Sri Ram.
Anjani - I will forgive you only if you honour my promise and save Kashi naresh.
Anjani calls Kashi naresh. He comes out.
Hanuman - Did you see? Because of your mistake, such a big chaos has arisen.
Kashi naresh - I did not do that knowingly.
Hanuman - I am also calling that as mistake. But you are a king. People learn from how the king behaves. You should respect rishis.
Kashi naresh - I will do so from next time onward. But please save me.
Hanuman - It is easier said than done. If all the powers of the world are against Lord Sri Ram, then also it is not possible to face his Vaishnav power. But my mother has promised to save your life and I am also bound by that promise. Even if I have to give up my life, I will save your life. But you must do what I say.
Kashi naresh - I will do as you say.
Hanuman - Mother, I will take him with me.
Anjani - But make sure that he is not harmed.
Hanuman - Mother, if I have your blessings, then nothing will happen to him.
Anjani - Be victorious.
A spy meets Ram.
Spy - Maharaj, Kashi naresh is under the protection of your dear Hanuman ji. Bound by his mother's order, he has even decided to go against you.
Ram thinks - I had myself ordered Hanuman to obey his mother. But I am a king. If I do not honour my words, then subjects will not trust me. I must behave like an ideal king.
Ram (to spy) - This is the tradition of Raghukul that if anybody comes in the way of our vow, then we either take away his life or give up our life while honouring our words. Even if Hanuman tries to save Kashi naresh, then I will forget that Hanuman is my dearmost devotee. Where are they?
Spy - Maharaj, I saw them going south towards the bank of Saryu river.
Hanuman - But our army is there.
Spy - Yes, Maharaj. On the orders of some of our commanders, our army has surrounded Hanuman ji and Kashi naresh.
Hanuman and Kashi naresh are surrounded by Ram's army.
Senapati - Bajrangbali, hand Kashi naresh over to us.
Hanuman - No senapati. He is under my protection. Let Lord Sri Ram come. Then we will reach a conclusion.
Senapati - I cannot wait for him.
Hanuman - Do not be a fool. Otherwise you will be responsible for the death of all these soldiers.
Senapati - Soldiers, catch Kashi naresh.
Kashi naresh is trembling with fear.
Senapati - If Hanuman ji stops you, then tie him.
Hanuman alone fights with all of them and defeats them. Finally he defeats senapati also.
Kashi naresh is very glad to see this.
Kashi naresh - You are great, Pavanputra. You are alone equal to entire army.
In Ayodhya
Sumant - Rajmata, Kashi naresh got the protection from mother Anjana. And she gave this responsibility to his son Mahabali Hanuman.
Kaushalya - Does it mean that Hanuman will be against his lord in the battle-ground?
Sumant - Rajmata, the situation is very complicated. Today, lord and devotee are against each other.
Kaushalya - Hanuman has always served Ram and Ram also treats Hanuman as his dearmost devotee. And Hanuman himself will fight with Ram? Sumant ji, give this news to Vashishth ji.
Sumant - As you wish.
Sumant gives this news to guru Vashishth. Vishwamitra is also there.
Vashishth - What? War between Ram and Hanuman? Their names were always taken as example of lord and devotee.
Vishwamitra - I had never even imagined this. We must stop them somehow. (Hey, your own anger is responsible for this.😡)
Sumant - Now they cannot be stopped. Ram has got this news. Moreover Hanuman is injured the soldiers of Ayodhya, who tried to stop him. Some have even been killed.
Vishwamitra - It is difficult to believe.
Sumant - But this is true. If Sri Ram sees the condition of his soldiers, then he will not forgive Hanuman.
Hanuman is sad.
He thinks - So much of destruction of Ayodhya's army and that too by me? Why did I do this? To honour the promise to my mother? But Kashi naresh tricked my mother. Is it right to do all this for him?
Kashi naresh - You are really mighty. You defeated thousands of soldiers. They were falling like small trees in a tempest. You are great.
Hanuman (angrily) - I know what I am. Instead of praising me, you should worry about your life. Come with me.
They move away from there.
Hanuman thinks - I have to be against Sri Ram in order to obey his and mother's orders.
Hanuman - Kashi naresh, Sri Ram has come to know of this. He will be reaching here any moment. Do not worry. Do as I say.
Kashi naresh - What should I do? Please tell me quick.
Hanuman - Go inside the water of this Saryu river up to waist and continuously chant Ram-naam.
Kashi naresh - But Sri Ram wants to kill me. From him I am running everywhere.
Hanuman - If a person fears anybody, then he goes to somebody greater than him. Only Ram-naam is greater than Sri Ram. If you chant his name from your heart, then all your troubles will be over.
(Isn't this similar to what Chandra had also suggested?)
Kashi naresh - Is this true?
Hanuman - Yes. Sri Ram's name is more effective than even Sanjivani. Do as I say and see the miracle. Why are you looking like this? Go inside the water.
Kashi naresh stands in the water and chants "Jai Jai Ram".
Ram reaches his army.
Ram - Did Hanuman do this?
Spy - Yes Maharaj.
Ram - I cannot believe.
Spy - But this is the information we got from our spies.
Ram - They must be wrong. Hanuman cannot do this.
Spy - Forgive me, Maharaj. One person can make a mistake. But all of our spies who saw what happened here have given the same information.
Ram sees senapati, who is very seriously injured.
Ram - Who is responsible for this condition of yours?
Senapati - Hanuman ji
Ram - Then Hanuman will not escape from me. The one who has killed Ayodhya's army cannot be forgiven. I will punish both Kashi naresh and Hanuman. Where are they?
Senapati - They went that side.
Ram goes in that direction and sees Hanuman.
Ram screams - Hanuman
Hanuman is ready with his gada.
