Thanks to u Vibs! Thanks to your thread about the sources of Ramayan (I printed the whole thread and filed it) I have started on this journey; to read the different versions of Ramayan is now my goal. I cannot thank u enough for that.

Thanks also to Ananya, Rajnish, Akhl, Lalitha, Chen, and all the others who made this topic so wonderful.

Okay, I have a different question, which hopefully, won't open a can of worms the way my poll did, which metastasized into a DOTW. Oh well...

In Valmiki, all 4 brothers were Vishnu's avatar, so there was no Lakshman being Sesha-nag, or Bharat being Panchajanya, et al. So the question I post below doesn't apply to the original Valmiki.

But in the versions that have Lakshman as Sesha-nag, and so on, here is my question:

Where was Sita in between the period of her going underground w/ Bhoomi-devi to the time Lakshman became Sesha-nag? If she became Lakshmi, there would have been no throne for her in Vaikuntha, so would she have been on her lotus 24x7? (Incidentally, what was her vehicle - wikipedia seems to say it was an owl, but I don't recall reading that anywhere) Or did she just live w/ Bhoomi Devi as Sita, and return to Vaikuntha after Rama did after taking the form of Lakshmi?

I too had that doubt but couldn't find an answer.

In the Kambaramayana, it is mentioned that Lakshman was an avtaar of Adisesha and Bharat and Shathrugan being the conch and the disc. I haven't found the Tamil version of Uttar Kand yet, so I don't know what this version says.

Some versions say that Devi Lakshmi reached Vaikuntha through the Nagaloka but I don't understand how someone can reach a higher world by passing through a lower one.

In many of the books I have read, Lord Brahma mentions that Devi Sita who is none other than Goddess Lakshmi awaits for Lord Vishnu in his abode Vaikuntha. This suggests that Devi Sita went straight up to Vaikuntha after she had gone into the Earth.

Also, there is a dfference in the time frames between the Earth and Vaikuntha. Devi Lakshmi probably had to wait for a short time before her consort joinmed her.

I'd guess that she was residing on her lotus till then. It is also possible that she could have lived a while with Mother Earth.

So much of discussion around my comment? 😲. It was a partly sarcastic one though.
But yes, the fact remains that Bhoomi Devi taking Sita was the ultimate result though the cause was the ill talk of the Avadhis. And as always result is more prominent than cause. Ram was confident that Sita would come unscathed from the Agnipariksha. He was also aware that Sita was in safe hands when he exiled her and was may be hopeful he would see her someday. But now, he knew he could never have Sita back by his side. And in this fit of anger, he was impulsive and hence threatened BhoomiDevi. So there's no accusation here.
And Khal, never mind, I never take even serious comments seriously. 😆 😆 😆

I think probably Sita stayed for sometime with Bhoomi Devi, and later merged with Lakshmi in Vaikunt. Now taking this concept, if Vishnu & Lakshmi are present in Vaikunth inspite of them being Ram & Sita, why not Lakshman / Seshnag?

And I too think Owl is her vehicle, bcoz I've heard in a stotra calling her Ulukavahini (uluka meaning owl in sanskrit), but do not have a concrete source.

Today is officially the last episode of Ramayan, though not the discussions.
Just want to share a happy news with you all who have been a second family to me whom I eagerly wait to meet on the forum. I am expecting my second kid. And that is the reason for my sudden disappearance from the forum for some days recently. And since its the early days, it is being hard on my health.
I did not want to miss the ending episodes and discussions and hence sort of forced myself during the last week to log on to the forum. I may not be that active again, but will surely log on whenever I get the chance.
Hope to feel better soon and start actively participating in the future discussions.
