Gurmeetisgod,
Do u mean to say that god/Shri Ram was attractive?
Yes every "human form"of God was very handsome/beautiful. So in that context I agree but sexy sounds a bit lusty in my opinion.

I totally get your point gurmeetisgod. I think people may be judging u too quickly. Our scriptures are filled with descriptions and epithets that cross "beautiful" and border on the erotic. This does not hav to mean that its vulgar. The sculptures of Khajurao are clearly erotic or sexy, but not vulgar. Tulsidas describes Shri Ram as "Kandarp aganit amita chhabi" as beautiful as countless cupids. Now in the western concept cupid as a childish cherub thats asexual, but the Hindu concept has "Cupid" Kamdev as handsome youth (sexy if you will) who even has a consort (or to be blunt, a sexual partner) - Rati.
One other point...
A girl may find a particular guy (mortal that is) to be the height of sexiness. Say hypothetically she finds errrrm - Akshay Kumar to be the sexiest person on earth. So that would mean that God has competition - since He is the best or ultimate of everything on Heaven and earth. Thre is noone more hansome, brave, valliant, oppulent , and dare I say it more sexier than Him.
Didnt mean to offend anyone, but I thought I could sympathise with Gurmeetisgod's point of view.

You said EXACTLY my thoughts! I have am western so you are correct in the concept of Cupid being an asexual child, usually depicted as a naked child with bow and arrows. I think I am trying to highlight in way the confusion the western world may have with the texts as gurmeet litterly portrays Ram as being a handsome youth. You have also mentioned correctly the danger in the mortal man and the god being offended.

When a mortal plays a god who is deemed to be very handsome and is a handsome actor themselves we are walking on touchy ground which can be easily mixed up by people, I am in a way lucky to an extent as I am hindu and am aware already that Vishnu has had some incarnations what can be only described as making one excited biologically. We can't help it if we are excited it's down to biology and the body's natural processes. When i as first hindu, I was slightly shocked with the "sexualised" texts of hinduism, but, came to realise it is about the beauty of the gods. Now, Western people are largely ignorant of the dharma and they would litterly see it as God is litterly "sexy".

I have either shot myself in the foot or made people aware of potential problems.

No u havnt shot yourself in the foot (though I'm sure others shooting YOU is a different matter😆
This is the beauty of Hinduism that its all encompassing - it allows girls to make siggies and pics of Gurmeet and Ankit - in their forms as God and put hearts and go gaga over them. I realy cant imagine Muslims or Christian girls doing the same over actors that portray their holymen.
Afterall Hindus gave the world Kamasutra - a feat no other religion has achieved. If u can have recipe books for enhancing your eating which is a biological function, then you can have sex manuals for enhancing your s** life - another biological function. This in no way gives one permission to lead vulgar, licentious, and frivilous lives - but even the Kamasutra stresses faithfulness to ones partner and leading a good moral life, just as having a recipe book doesnt give you permission to become a glutton.
Hinduism allows us to be complete and enjoy life in every aspect - we see the beauty in everthing - be it life, art, song, dance, nature or sex. Thats perhaps allowed us to survive and still have a vibrant religion that can adapt to any age.

Now don't jump on me for agreeing with gurmeetisgod. Okay, I don't believe for once that Gurmeet is God even though I do believe that God is there in all of us. He is a superb actor doing the difficult role of Shri Ram marvellously.

Having said that, I am saying why gurmeetisgod's comment is valid. The explanation coming below.

There are 5 different Bhavas of Bhakti yoga. They are:

1. Shanta bhava-here the devotee feels a lot of joy because of his/her devotion but the devotion to God is peaceful. Bheesma from the Mahabharat is said to be a Shanta bhava devotee.

2. Dasya Bhava-where the devotee sees himself/herself as the servant of the Lord. Example: Hanuman.

3. Sakhya Bhava-where the devotee sees the Lord as his/her friend. Example: Arjuna from the Mahabharat

4. Vatsalya Bhava: where the devotee sees the Lord as his/her child. Example: Yashoda mata.

5. Madhurya Bhava or Kanta Bhava-where the devotee sees the Lord as a lover. This is the highest form of Bhakti actually. Example: Radha, Mirabhai, and Andal (from the south) all had this form of Bhakti. The Orissa poet Jayadeva also had this form of Bhakti. His Ashtapathi is full of erotica between Radha and Krishna.

Only gurmeetisgod, you cannot use the word 'sexy' in that way with Ramji because Vishnuji in the form of Ramji had taken the Eka Patni Vrat. Actually, in one episode of the Ramayan (I will try and find out from which Ramayan this is taken) many rishis in the forest wished to give a hug to the Lord. Ramji told them that He cannot do that as Ram because he had taken the eka patni vrat. He promised to come back in the Dwapara Yug and also told them that they (the rishis) will all be born as gopis. Lo and behold! the beginning of Raas leela which is full of erotica actually.

Nothing wrong in that guys. This is the beauty of Hinduism and that why the religion as survived for thouands of years. The Lord accepts a true devotee's Bhakti in many ways without judgment.

The episode giving the explanation of the rishis from the Treta Yug being gopis in the Dwapara Yug comes in Shrimad Baghavatam by Ved Vyas.

Cool, will check that out but just to make it clear, but , my bhakti with shri Mahadeva is best mates and admiration. But I agree about the actual fact about having the Lord as a lover, that would be WAYYYYY too weird and in fact to me being brought up with christianity seems a tad weird so I suppose that is the toughest call of all.

We get taught on how the abrahamic god (not hindu god (s) is a best friend etc and possibly how you guys would equate Sakyha Bhava would be for the people in the west so you can see how I can see the ability to have someone as a god (as an actor) and saying they are sexy is a tad on unknown territory for me and the lovely ladies cleared up about devotion in hinduism is much more relaxed than in the abrahamic traditions, to even have an actor playing a god and to comment on them like on here is a learning curve for me.

I'm on my early path as a hindu as yet

Nothing weird about it! The Vaishnava (devotees of Vishnu) Hindu thought (there are worshipers of Shakti who see God as female energy) sees God as 'male' energy or Purusha. The human soul is seen as female. The union of the human soul with the Divine soul is seen as the union between a man and woman. I don't see anything weird about this concept.

Anyway, life is all about 'live and learn' so don't worry too much about it. Also, u are allowed to choose the Bhakti bhava that you are most comfortable with and follow that. If you are comfortable with seeing the Divine as a friend, no sweat. Hindu thought allows the freedom to choose the path you wish to take to reach the Divine. 😃

I just wanted to say that it is good that we are discussing all this without 'fighting' because we are all learning something everyday on this forum by voicing our doubts.

It's weird when you are forced to believe that god is male is he is your friend sort of thing (as per christianity), that's also the beauty of hinduism and it is also in the positive/negative polarity of life as usually the lords have a consort to be their other energy!

We're all a big happy community here and as they say, knowledge is the real power of life. 👏

Do you know, what does the name Krishna (or Lord) mean?

Krishna means ' all attractive', as explained by Srila Prabhupad.

If you want more info on this, i'll try to post it here.
