Chapter 20
"Tell me Zoya, is that all you trust me?" Not understanding what she should say, Zoya lowered her eyes again not able to meet his accusing gaze. Asad knew that if he was going through so much pain then she must be too. He could feel it in his heart could see it in her eyes. He stood close to her and holding her by her arms made her look at him. With her ragged breath Zoya looked in his eyes and saw her pain in them. She closed her eyes and between silent sobs began her chant of apologies. Seeing her in such a state pearced his heart with a million needles. Asad cupped her face to stop her from shedding anymore tears and wiped her cheeks off the tears that were constantly flowing down her cheeks. He pulled her into his arms trying to give her the strength that she needed.
All Zoya wanted at this point in time was to forever stay in the comfort of his arms. She inhaled deeply to take in as much of his sent as she could as she knew that only this could calm her. As Asad felt her relax in his hold he removed his arms from around her waist and cupped her cheeks. He leaned in and kissed her forehead making Zoya sigh with relief. She held onto his hands that still cupped her cheeks and looked into his eyes and said what she knew he wanted to hear too. "I love you Asad... I love you... And I am sorry, I am so so sorry for all this. I am sorry..." "I love you too Zoya I love you too. But what you've done... I want an explanation". "I was scared to lose you Asad... And... And No matter how much love there is between us, I thought my past is definitely going to affect us... Going to break us apart" she said looking in his eyes.
Hearing her breaking voice Asad shook his head in the negative "No Zoya no. I will not let anything break us apart, ever. I went crazy looking for you three years back. Only my Ammi and Abbu know what I've been through... Looking for you in every place possible. I went after every lead I thought I'd got to find you. If I loved you three years back, now, you are my life. The only thing that can take you away from me is You. How could you think that I will give importance to your past more than the love you have for me... Especially after where we stand in our relationship" Zoya could hear the accusations and hurt in his voice. Feeling her heart breaking with the way he sounded Zoya just closed her eyes trying to overcome the pain she felt within too. With her eyes still closed she wrapped her arms around his neck asking for forgiveness.
Pulling her flush against himself Asad held her securely in his arms relishing the feel of her relaxed body against his. Caressing her hair lovingly he tried to ease the pain that they both felt. After a while Zoya pulled away and looked in his eyes "Am I forgiven?" Asad smiled at her a little and nodded his head. He leaned in and kissed her forehead. She smiled at his gesture and was just about to move out of his hold when she felt his arms tighten just a bit more. Looking deep in her eyes he said "For this one time I am letting you go Zoya, but please don't hide anything from me ever again. Please trust Me, I will never let anything separate us. But we have to have transparency in our relationship". Nodding her head she promised to do as he wanted.
"This is the only reason I was so upset with you Zo. I couldn't accept the fact that you could..." Zoya placed her finger to his lips stopping him mid sentence "My only reason was, that like in Bhopal, people thought that it was all my Abbu's fault, all that my Ammi and I went through... So I thought you... Your parents would too.." Realization came crashing down on him as Asad understood her insecurities, it all had happened so fast for her. Their meeting, their mutual attraction, then the sudden demise of her Abbu which brought with it a whole bundle of other problems she faced along with her Ammi. He realized that she had been rendered homeless after all this. He closed his eyes as realization of her hardships, her struggle, her ordeal, her grief and her suffering hit him like a million bricks. To top it all she was alone, looking after her Ammi, trying to find a footing in a new city, all with a wounded heart and soul.
Realizing his mistake at his outburst, Asad cupped her cheek with one hand and placed kissed her on her forehead lingering there longer than required. He looked in her eyes and then lowered them feeling guilty for have been a reason for her pain for the last 24 hours. "I am sorry Zo. Am very sorry... I didn't think for a second before reacting... I didn't think that you could have a strong reason behind doing what you did. I didn't think... Am sorry" watching his eyes pleading her for forgiveness Zoya shook her head in the negative "Don't apologize Asad, it's not your fault... Anyone in your position would react the same way. This is the reason my Ammi had been asking me to tell you everything... But... I...," she trailed off. Taking in a deep breath Asad said "It's OK. All's OK now. Am not angry, rather I feel stupid to have reacted like that. I could have asked you like an adult, but no, I behaved like a spoilt child". Hearing him talking like that Zoya giggled drawing his attention to herself. Seeing her smile, a bright smile spread across his lips too and he tightened his hold around her waist. "Aaannd... may I know what is so funny Ms. Farooqui... " he said in such a low and sensuous tone that she immediately looked up at him, her smile fading as she felt her body reacting to his. She saw a glint of naughtiness in them and lowered her eyes feeling a blush creep up her cheeks.
Her breath hitched in her throat as she felt him blow softly from her temple to her ear making her body warm up in response and her cheeks turning scarlet. Zoya's eyes closed trying to get a hold on her fast heart beat. Smiling at the effect that he had on her Asad pulled her in for a bone crushing hug trying to control his racing emotions too. Fully aware of their surroundings, Asad gently kissed her forehead and let his arms fall, releasing his hold on her. He held her hand in his and started walking out the park. As they walked across the road to where his car was parked, Zoya stopped and looked towards the dargah. "Can we go in, I want to thank Allah to have rectified everything in my life, to have got everything back to normal, to have given you back to me". Smiling at her Asad nodded his head. Covering their heads they both went inside and raising their hands thanked the Almighty for returning their love and for this to be their last obstacle and for them to have the other by their side until eternity.
Walking back out, they smiled at each other and holding hands again they walked towards Asad's car. He held onto her hand gently while he drove. After a couple of minutes Zoya noticed him taking a turn in another direction. "Asad, Asad my house was in the other direction. You've taken a wrong turn" she looked at him and saw him smiling and realised that he'd done it on purpose. "Where are you taking me?" She asked him surprised at the naughtiness she saw in his eyes. "You will know in a minute". Patiently waiting Zoya looked out the window and soon realized where he was talking her. She smiled realizing he was headed in direction of the expressway, the place they had truly confessed. She looked at him with sheer happiness and immediately moved closer to him in the car, gently putting her arms around his neck and Asad too put his arm across her shoulder holding her close to himself.
As he parked the car in the same spot as the night of the party, he looked at Zoya who smiled back at him and mother an I love you. Asad smiled back at her feeling his heart swell with happiness for he had his life right next to him, in his arms and smiling back at him. Kissing her forehead Asad removed his arm from around her shoulder and got off the car. Opening the door on her side he extended his hand for her and she took it without hesitation. Before he tok her away he picked up the remote control to the music system in his car. He guided her to the same spot as they had taken on their first trip here. He stood behind her pulling back into his chest and wrapped his arms around her waist. Smiling she too leaned into him, letting him rest his chin on her shoulder.
"I love you Zoya" he whispered in her ear, his voice so soft, so full of emotions and so sensuous that it made her body erupt into goosebumps. She leaned into him letting him tighten his hold around her waist. The last 24 hours had been excruciatingly painful for both of them and they both felt emotionally drained. All they needed now was to be together. They had been standing there feeling content in their embrace, feeling the other
In their arms when Zoya pushed his arms away a little and turned around to look at him wrapping her arms around his neck. Going up on her toes she tightened her arms around his neck hugging him close to herself "I love you too Asad... I love you too". Releasing her hold a little she moved back and looked deep in his eyes. If her eyes were filled with infinite live for him, then so were his.
She gently caressed his face looking at him with so much love that Asad could only close his eyes and he leaned into her soft touch sighing and felt his heart pick up pace. Opening his eyes he saw desire in her eyes and very slowly Zoya lowered her eyes feeling her emotions getting out of hand seeing a burning in his eyes too. She placed her head against his chest listening to his racing heart that was hammering inside. She placed a soft kiss there in response to which Asad kissed the top of her head. They had been standing there when the soft music from his car made them pull apart a little and they looked at each other. Holding onto her waist Asad gently started swaying from side to side making her eyes widen with shock first followed by a bright smile. She blushed as this was the first time they were dancing together. The city lights twinkling down below and the stars twinkling in the sky, soft music in the background making it all so romantic. Looking deep into the others eyes they let the music guide them as they drowned themselves in the love that they shared.
Aasmaan ke pare ek jahaan hai kahin
Jhooth sach ka wahan qayeda hi nahin
Roshni mein wahan ki alag noor hai
Saaye jismon se aage jahaan jaate hain
Chal wahan jaate hain
Chal wahan jaate hain
Pyaar karne chalo
Hum wahan jaate hain
Hum wahan jaate hain
Seene se tum mere aake lag jaao na
Darte ho kyun zara paas toh aao na
Seene se tum mere aake lag jaao na
Darte ho kyun zara paas toh aao na
Dhunn meri dhadkano ki suno..
Chal wahan jaate hain
Chal wahan jaate hain
Pyar karne chalo
Hum wahan jaate hain
Hum wahan jaate hain
Oo.. jaate hain
Chal jaate hain
Jaate hain... jaate hain...
Koi subah wahan raat se na mile
Ud ke wahan chalo aao tum hum chale
Koi subah wahan raat se na mile
Ud ke wahan chalo aao tum hum chale
Pankh laaya hoon main ud chalo...
Chal wahan jaate hain
Chal wahan jaate hain
Pyar karne chalo
Hum wahan jaate hain
Hum wahan jaate hain
Even with the song ended, they stayed in each other's arms feeling their hearts beating in sync. Zoya could see the smouldering passion in his eyes. Feeling her cheeks heating to his gaze she lowered her eyes. Removing her arms from around his neck she took a small step back only to be stopped by the tightening of Asad's arms around her stopping her from going anywhere. Zoya looked up only to find him looking at her lips. He met her eyes and as if answering his unasked question, closing her eyes she tilted her head up wanting to feel his love in all the senses and that is exactly what Asad did. He placed his lips over hers initiating a kiss that was the most tender they had ever shared, a kiss that conveyed love from the deepest part of one heart to the other and a kiss that sealed every said and unsaid promise, every said and unsaid vow and every said and unsaid consent that they were going to be together, not leaving the other no matter what life threw at them.
