So, I read it twice, and I couldn't help up grow to love it even more. And there are some particular lines, dialogues and paragraphs that got to me.
You'll think that I'm highlighting the entire story, but you are to blame for it! You write so well!
I NEED to tell you the parts I liked, and what in particular.
The reason why they are best friends! They might deny, but they really are very much like each other.
Then, this one. Yes! The entire para!
Zeenat and Zoya were very different persons and yet sisters had similarities which someone like Asad who had known both the sisters for long time could easily see.
Even the subtle shades, which people overlook, are in your story!
I could relate to it! Like my Mother and my Aunt. They are extremely different, but then there's that particular way of talking which runs in their blood! The way they modulate the sentences at the exact same places!
How difficult it must be for Asad, everything was morphing into Zoya no matter how hard he tried to not let them.
And finding those familiar traits was not easy. If similarities made him uneasy, the differences were even more troublesome. "Zoya would handle the situation differently. This is not how Zoya would do. Zoya doesn't panic easily." The anger had vanished now and better characteristics of her person were more visible. And, then came Shireen's call. She told Zeenat all about Zoya's visit, her having lunch with her and how nice of her it was to give her company! Asad had felt proud of Zoya. She did mistakes but she corrected in her own way. He was so happy that day that he had taken Mahek in his arms. He was very afraid to hold such a small child. Zoya always helped him, but that day he had braved the task. Mahek's dimples and incessant wailing phases reminded him of Zoya. Today the child was also smiling and fell asleep with head on his shoulder.
*italics - That has to be one of the cutest comparisons ever!
Anwar and Mahek waved him good bye. Once back in the elevator, Anwar made faces for Mahek's entertainment and she gave toothless smiles.
"Mahek, mere bachhe, khabardar agar tum apne chachu ya masi dono main se kisike bhi upar gayi to...dono ek number ke namoone hain. Tum to bas apne Abbu jaise banana."
Mahek gave a dimpled smile.
"There goes my wish." Neither Anwar nor Zeenat had dimples. All knew who she had inherited them from.
"Ye tumhare Asadchachu ka dimple," He kissed her one cheek. "Aur ye tumhari Zoya masi ka...", he kissed her other cheek.
I don't know how many times I've pictured it in my mind. This was THE BEST part of the update for me!
Anwar And Zeenat would've been exactly like that in the show, had they been given more screenspace and the story been different.
I love the bada bhai Anwar - who knows his brother the best. He knows when to 'hover around' or 'push his buttons' or when to just let him be. I'm so glad Asad shared everything with him.
It's always exciting - to peep into Asad's thoughts. I love when the updates are from his POV. It's like, we always know what's going on in Zoya's mind.. but not Asad's. He's a closet person. Very cryptic! And interesting.
Asad got a window seat and stared out of the window all the time. His main concern was Zoya's well-being, but a smile flickered on his face every now and then and he could not control it. Other times immense sadness swept over his heart and he kept shifting uncomfortably his seat.
Oh the circumstances! His heart is exploding with happiness, but sadly, it's not the right time. Or is it?
I never really got why Asad was so very angry with Zoya. Yes, what she did was wrong and he was bound to be angry, but the magnitude of it!
I now understood why. His Zoya would've never done it. But she did. And the realization dawned.
Both were devastated. It's good that the phase is about to end!
"Zoya...you and your ideas for gift...," He mumbled while placing it on its rightful place. Zoya had gifted him at the time of his last promotion. She wanted to keep him on his office desk. He had refused point-blank. He wanted to be taken seriously in his new position.
Hahahahahaha! Hilarious! And typical Asad and Zoya!
He pulled the door hard and shelves near the door shook. The Einstein head kept bobbling.
I tried hard to figure out what the bobbling head meant. Was it metaphoric?
Zoya learns that Asad loves her. The big news finally breaks. (Einstein falls)
The head had been still. But it's bobbling now. It is meant to. That's what it's made for!
So, the heart's doing what it is meant to? Has peace in the universe been restored?
He stood in the Farooqui House porch not knowing what to do and then he saw some movement behind a bush.
"Zoya, is that you?"
I know you're not the kind who give evil surprises... but I'm still curious!
Is it Zoya?
If yes, then is she hiding behind that bush, having spotted Asad's car in the driveway? Did she instruct Wajid to say what he said?
Okay, so I'm gonna end it here.
This has to be one of the most brilliant updates of yours, EVER! Remember, I said 'one-of-the-best'. :D
Extremely excited for the next one! Can't wait for it!
All the best :)
PS - I'm still a little confused. When did Asad actually realise that he was in love? Was it when he and Zoya had the big fight? No, it was before that.
Just drop me a hint! I'd like that to guess it myself!
PPS - I can totally imagine the song 'Saibo' from the movie 'Shor in the City' playing softly in the background throughout the update! I know it's too dramatic, but there's no harm imagining, is there?!
