Six
Asad stood in front of the mirror and wiped away the water the steam from his hot shower caused.
'Asad...I know it's you'
Her words echoed around him and he felt her soft fingertips stroke his face. 'Three weeks ago I didn't know you existed and now I can't seem to ...What is going on with you Asad?' he questioned the man he saw in the mirror.
The next morning Zoya sat outside in the grounds of the lodge, the rest of her friends had ventured out seeing it was their last day and she stayed back hoping that she would be able to meet with Asad one more time. She didn't understand why she felt the need to spend more time with him, from what Mrs Braganza had said Asad was not someone who really interacted with people but her three encounters with him made her feel like there was a lot more to him than she sensed.
Zoya was about to take another sip of her coffee when she started smiling, he was here. Asad stepped outside with a few business colleagues, he saw her sitting on a table in the far corner smiling, and he instantly knew why her beautiful face adorned such a smile. Asad excused himself and started to walk towards her as he approached her Zoya put down her coffee and waited for him to come and sit with her.
'How do you do it...I am nowhere near you and you still know' Zoya started laughing 'good morning to you too...please won't you sit' Asad sat opposite her 'like I told you I may not have the gift of sight but Allah has blessed me in other ways...actually if I can be honest it doesn't happen very often...I was a little surprised myself, I guess you have a lasting impact'.
Zoya kept talking and he kept drowning, there was no describing or understanding the unknown pull, the undeniable force that kept drawing him towards her. Asad had always been in the company of women, his work moved him around on an international scale, he was young, rich, and had the looks that would put any Greek God to shame but yet he was single. The world of girls, courtship or love didn't exist for him; he didn't understand it and was totally oblivious. And it was exactly this sweet ignorance what was causing him so much confusion now.
Asad was about to say something when he saw little specks of white fluff fall around him. Zoya held her hand out as she also felt cold against her skin 'what is that?' she said 'snow'. Zoya's eyes widened with excitement 'really it is snowing?' Asad looked around to see the small snow drops fall all around 'its picking up, I think we should go inside, you will get cold'
Asad stood up to walk towards the building when he paused, he turned around to see Zoya twirling and laughing as she let the snow fall kiss her soft white skin. Asad was in total awe of what he saw before him, an innocent young girl who was enjoying the little things in life, she looked no less than an Angel.
The snow fall stated to pick up, and with it came an extremely cold breeze. Asad walked up to her, and as she twirled around once more she landed against his chest. She was still laughing; as her innocent childlike laugh faded away she closed her eyes taking in the warmth of being against him. Her body broke out in an involuntary shiver and Asad instinctively put his arm around her 'you are so cold' 'I know...' keeping hold of her hand led her to the lodge, where they stood in the veranda looking back out.
'Can you describe it to me...what does it look like?' Asad swallowed hard, the man who only knew how to describe contracts and deals didn't have a vocabulary big enough to describe anything that was beautiful.
'It's nice' he simple said 'really...and what exactly is nice?' she said raising her eyebrow. Asad started laughing, and it was the first time she really had heard him laugh. Actually no one had ever heard Asad laugh out loud; he was an Akdu after all.
Asad tried his best to describe what he saw in front of him, but all he could do was laugh at his own stupidity 'you are not very good at this you know...I will have to teach you' 'really, and how will you do that?'
Zoya turned around 'give me your hand' Asad placed his hand in hers 'ok now close your eyes' 'why?' 'Asad...just do as I say' 'ok' 'no cheating' 'ok no cheating'.
Asad closed his eyes and waited for Zoya to do what she wanted to. Zoya lifted his hand slowly and placed it against her face 'now feel my face with your finger tips and describe me...say whatever word comes to you first'.
Asad shot his eyes open, he found himself holding her face delicately in the palm of his hands 'Asad...I said no cheating...close your eyes' Asad let out a little gasp 'how did...you are blind aren't you?' Zoya started laughing 'yes I am...now close your eyes and do as I have asked you' Asad closed his eyes and let his fingers feel and take in every part of her face.
'Angel' he whispered 'that's what you look like 'and what does an angel look like Asad?' 'You, someone that defines innocence, that has eyes that sparkle whenever you smile, your face radiates happiness that no man that could see would ever be able to know that you are...I don't know Zoya...'
Asad opened his eyes and slowly withdrew his hands, the thought of her being blind pained him. He turned around and looked back outside to the garden, which was now covered in snow 'it looks like a part of heaven had descended on earth, it looks peaceful, like you want to go out and embrace it with all your heart. The sky is clear, and the sun shining bright, the snow that lays down is flawless, it is pure in every way'.
Zoya smiled 'And you said you couldn't do it...to see the world from someone else's eyes can never compare...thank you Asad'.
Asad took in a few deep breaths as he felt his heart accelerate, they both stood in silence but even that silence seemed to say something, something that they were yet to find out and understand.
'Mr Khan, we are ready for your presentation' Asad nodded and then looked back at Zoya I have to go...I will be leaving later this afternoon...maybe I can see you before I go' 'I would like that...and Asad thank you for...um...I mean good luck with your presentation, I hope it goes well'. Zoya turned around and started to walk back inside and Asad turned around to walk back towards the conference hall.
