Is Qubool Hai show really progressive?😡 No women is shown working professionally. It does not happens in real life. I am disappointed wid Gul for not showing Zoya as a working women. I wanted to see her as a working woman but not in Asad's office but on her own. Zoya is supposed to be modern n progressive then y her aapi-jiju decided to her married so soon wid Akram? Then Dilshad fixed her alliance wid Asad. No one even asked her if she wants to work after marriage. Asad in his initial days was ridiculous n irritating. He used to say no one is allowed to stay out after 7. Oh really? Even school n college students come home after 9 due to tuition or classes. Asad had no brain. He even told his ammi once dat Najma does not needs to go out to bring gift for her professor for his retirement n he vl buy it instead. Then wat wud hv been his reaction wen any women of his house wud wanted to work outside? Many times too much protections leads to people not being able to face d outside world n not being wise according to d situation. It was shown in d show DDBEDS where Shivani was pampered beyond limit by her grandfather who protected her too much n cuz of dat, she was too innocent to know wat type of people live in dis world. He protected her 4m d outside world unaware dat his own grandson n his wife r evil. Cumn to d topic, why did Zoya even told Asad dat she wants to work n he was arguing on dat. Can't she hv her own identity? But later, Asad told dat she can do wateva she wants n he vl always be there for her n he was only pulling her leg. Old Asad wud hv insulted her for even thinking of working.
But Zoya was never shown working. I was fed up of her dialogue to Asad 'Biwi pe dhyan nahi. Jab bhi dekho kaam kaam kaam'. It sounded like d dialogues of those saree n jewellery wearing wives of stupid saas bahu soaps. It did not suited wid Zoya d way she was shown as modern n progressive. D way Gul was showing Najma, Nikhat n Humeira getn married between their college before d age of 20 was too unreal. Who gets their daughters married @ such a young age nowadays dat also widout completing their studies? In real life, no one gets married before d age of 25-26 cuz many want to settle before getn married. But in QH, Gul showed stupid things like marriage is everything n all. In Qureshi family's entry episode, Rashid said dat Nikhat bahot hi gharelu ladki hai aur vo jis ghar me jaayegi uss ghar ko khushiyon se bhar degi. R daughters born only to get married n become housewife? In real life, many men wants highly educated n working wife dat also in middle class house. And here Gul is not showing any woman working dat also in rich families. Only Tanveer n Dilshad were mentioned to be working. Then y not Zoya? Wat kind of message cvs wants togive d audience? Dat women r only for getn married n havng babies n managing house?

In DABH which seems to be set in semi-rural place, d female lead is shown working as an IPS officer n d male lead along wid her in-laws supporting her. In a show called Afsar Bitiya which was set in village, d female lead who was 4m hindi medium becomes BDO n works even after marriage wid her husband supporting her. Her husband in d show was unemployed but he always supported her in bad times.Later, she studies for IAS while being pregnant. Then along wid her husband, d whole family supports her n treats her like a princess as she is pregnant n has to prepare for her exam. Wen her daughter is born, she is taken care by d family while d female lead goes for IAS training. In shows like Hitler Didi n Jee Le Zara, d female leads work for their family. Such shows showed d proper progressiveness of women. I only watched Afsar Bitiya among them. Now, there r many crap shows who shows women working but due to so-called twist of fate crap, they work under d arrogant n selfish male leads who torture d female leads n they r made to call them 'Sir' n listen to almost everything they say n in d end, d employee n d boss falls in love. I am fed up these concepts which shows dat women can only work under men n later fall in love wid d same man. Y can't TV serials show women as business tycoon n for once d male lead working under d female lead? Why only women r put down in d show? In many shows, there r scenes like men talking abt meeting n business while women just do household work teln many times muje bahot kaam hai. I hate how only men r shown to be working while women stay at home even though they come 4m a rich family. In QH, Haseena did not let Najma n Nikhat to study furthur teln they don't hv to work outside but sit home while men in QH walked around stylishly talking n doing business. It was really an insult to all d women. Gul sud go to hell😡.

I am 4m a middle class family. My dad is an audit officer n my bro is an electrical engineer. I am not much good in studies now which I was earlier. I vl turn 22 in July n they r tensed abt me how I vl get job. Many of our relatives live in village n v live in cities n v r much modern than them. My parents n my brothers wants me to do some bank course, give some exams n get a job of some bank officer. They want me to settle n earn well to make my own identity. Wen I went wid my dad for d admission in class, my dad told d women who was taking admission dat I think v get everything so easily wen 2 person in my house r earning well. I denied him thinking dat but he was not wrong in assuming it. Dat teacher told me dat dad n brother's money r not everything n v hv to make our own identity by earning on our own. Earlier, my family were too orthodox as they used to live in village till some years before I was born. They initially used to even not like me wearing jeans n tops. They wanted me to always wear salwar suits which I hated n wanted to wear less. But now, they hv changed much but not too much. They allow me to wear clothes outside which is at least a little above my knees. At home, they even allow me to wear shorts n halter neck top. But they r not enough open-minded to let me marry a guy of another caste or religion but still they changed much. They hv realized 4m shows n even by normally dat people cannot be judged by clothes. They very badly want me to study hard, clear entrance exams n get a job. I am very afraid of letn them down which I don't want as I am too lazy but not too dumb. They hv a still trust in me dat I can get job if I work hard. I wish I get a job n make my family happy n myself too as it vl be my money. I want all of u guys to wish me good luck as I am not much confident. My parents even tell me to reduce my internet use n use internet only after dinner.

So, d previous paragraph was abt me. If my middle-class parents can think so much for me to work then y can't cvs show women working in tv shows? They show them sitting at home even though they r 4m rich families wid crap lie ladkiyan sirf ghar sambhalti hai, bahu bahar kaam nahi karti hai, log kya kahenge? n so on. I really want cvs to show some tv shows where d female leads r the boss of male leads for a change. They give d wrong impression dat women cannot work in higher position be above men's level. I am fed up of such partiality 2wards women. In real life, v hardly see any girl getn married at even 22-23. TV shows show ridiculous things like however rich d girl's family are, they starte lukn guys for her after her school at d age of 18-19 which is very unreal. Normally in real life, after college d girl goes for higher stufies or competitive entrance exams to get jobs. NowSanamtoo is show working as an almost maid in d male lead's house. Hope cvs at least show Seher as a proper working woman n men working under her. I am glad dat at least Gul did not showed Zoya working under Asad as his PA wid Asad always insulting her n Zoya acting like a dumb n scared person.

I hope I hv not troubled anyone wid dis long post. As many of us r girls, I wanted to share my thoughts wid all of u. I wanted to share wid all of u abt d mistakes d tv shows do.

^I did not wanted to see her in Asad's company. Boss n PA relation to bilkul nahi cuz it gets on my nerves. I wanted to see her working separately n make her own identity. They even showed Dilshad working in her young days n as a jury member(during d case of Yash vs Prashant for Ansh). Lekin Gul ko sirf bechaari ladkiyan dikhaana hai aur ladko ko hot n handsome business tycoon in all shows🥱. Wat abt Zoya saying dat she vl donate a part of her 1st salary in d orphange? Why d hell Gul showed dat Asad hated even independent girls? Being independent is very necessary. Even in villages in real life, some women works after marriage.

Great post!! I agree with the things you have said regarding the portrayal of females in Indian TV shows!
Personally I am a graduate and also a working women. But recently quit after 10 years working in finance. I have two little kids and I wanted to give them more time. My work schedule was crazy and after having my second, I felt like I had NO time for my kids! So I decided to take some time off working, and enjoy them. But that is a personal choice. I didn't sit around decked in jewellery and doing no house work, and doing no job! That is SO unrealistic!! I live in New Zealand, so here we don't have servants etc. Now that I am home, I look after the house and kids and I drive them everywhere as well. So I am very busy!! But I can get another job if and when I want to.

Most of the women in Indian soaps are decked up, don't have a job, don't do house work most of the time, and best part don't even have kids!! Initial stages of a story of course they don't have kids. But what women sits around doing nothing all day? The house is full of servants. The girl has no work to do. She is dressed to kill, and dosent even have a child to look after! Totally pathetic portrayal of a women. Like Jeevika in a Ek Hazaron main Meri behena. She was a teacher. She quit after marriage, and was just decked up and doing nothing, other than occasionally making some food. All she did was romancing with her husband! It was stupid!!

Gul's obsession with putting down women is just silly. Zoya never worked, despite being educated and qualified and from NYC! Nikhat and Humeria and Najma were all educated girls. But Nikhat's family appeared totally obsessed with her marriage? It was beyond irritating. I agree with TM that these days hardly any urban or city girl will marry before the age of 25! WHO wants to marry before that? You need to have a life??

I like Avantika of Pyaar Ka Daard, coz she is an independent women. Even now she is working and is even running for mayor of Mumbai. So in that story at least they have an independent female. She is one women from a rich family who is not idle. She actually worked in her Father's business and made it go higher. Today she runs her own business! I like Kumud of SC, coz she is a teacher and she continued with her job even after marrying Saras. She is shown to be an independent women with her own mind. She loves her family and works hard in the family home too. Ratan in Veera started to run the family farm after her husband left. She is now the Sarpanch of her village. She was no wallflower that just sat in a corner and cried after her husband was gone. She made something of her life, while being a single mother to two children. One of whom she paid to make a graduate! THAT is how women should be portrayed.

It dosent matter what a women choses to do. But she must be someone who is contributing to her family and to society. They should NOT show women as just interested in dressing fashionably, romancing husbands and occasionally making a cake!! That is just an insult to what women do on a daily basis!! They are trivialising the contributions of a women to her home and to her society!

It is high time Indian TV shows showed some REAL girl power! Halla Bol! :)

They really send a wrong message by showing women working at home. Even d male lead who is d husband or love of d female lead makes fuss initially wid d idea of d female lead working n then say things like I vl be wid u. And d elders of d house agree wid d condition dat she vl be able to luk after d house too. My question is y only women hv to adjust however educated n successful they are while men can remain in d house how much they want? Why only unfair things happen wid women? In Muslim, men can marry as much women as he can n if women even thinks abt 2nd man then she is treated like a criminal. Dis thing was asked by a wife to her husband in a popular historical serial on d same channel as QH. Initially, in Hindu too men can marry as much women as he wants but women r called cheap things if she does so. Draupadi's case was different n strange. Many people called cheap things including wh**e. In d same way, tv shows show men walk around stylishly in business outfits talking abt business now n then wid men of d house or to some friends or employees while women r shown in heavy traditional clothes wid jewelleries working around in d house n waiting for their husbands to come home. If Dilshad can make Asad a business tycoon then y she made Sanam run a dhaba? She even did not gave her proper education or made her do some computer, dance, singing course.
