"Is there anything at all, between us?", asked a hurt Zoya. Asad stared into Zoya's big, chocolate brown eyes which weighed down with pain. It took all his will, not run away from there, right that second. Her eyes depicted the very same emotions that were shown in his blood shot eyes. "Why are you doing this to me?!", cried Zoya, grasping his blazer lapels in the process. She shook him, still holding onto his lapels and shrieked at him, "Answer me! Why are you doing this to me?! Why did you say that you wanted to get married to me, when you never had?!" Asad hung his head in shame, as tears slid down Zoya's pale cheeks. She let go of his blazer, as she fell to her knees. She hid her face, in her palms and cried. She cried for the fact that she would never get the love of a husband she'd always dreamed of. She cried, because the only man she'd ever loved had lured her into a marriage under the pretense of loving her. Never in her dreams had she thought that a day would come when she would find out that her husband had just married her for his own selfish reasons. Asad's heart broke, seeing her in that disheveled state. He knelt down and placed a hand on her shoulder, after much hesitance. Before he could say anything to comfort her, she shrugged his hand away from her shoulder. She stood up, her knees wobbling. She cast Asad one last glance before walking off to her room.
Asad paced the length of his room, frustrated. He fell weakly onto his sofa, holding his head in his hands. He couldn't bring himself to consider Zoya as the same girl he'd known just a matter of months ago. She was the girl who made people smile and laugh even at the worst of times, but he'd transformed her into someone who'd forgotten how to smile. He couldn't believe how their whole lives had turned upside down, with just one rash decision of his. What ripped his soul apart was that Zoya thought of him as someone who'd married her under the pretext of love, because of his selfishness. How could he tell her that he'd loved her all along, when her life was at stake, with just that one revelation? A lone tear slid down his cheeks, he couldn't bear to see her in pain, every time he made her cry, his heart shattered. He couldn't live with the blame of hurting his only love, Zoya. Every little tear that slid down her cheeks were due to his undeniable mistake. He squeezed his eyes shut, as he tried to remove the existence of that bitter memory from his head, in a futile attempt. He banged his clenched fists on the coffee table beside him, as the memory of that fateful night came flooding back to his head.
"Tanveer! Have you gone mad?! Why the hell are you doing this?!", bellowed an outraged Asad. Tanveer retorted back, "Haan! I'm mad! I'm pure mad! I will do as I wish and if you've got a problem, stop me and if you can't, you'll just have to stick it!" She lowered the knife to Zoya's neck, while she lay unconscious on the floor, in her bridal outfit, oblivious to the danger she was in. Asad screamed, just as the knife touched Zoya's skin, "NO!!! Don't do anything to her! Just...just tell me what you want!" Tanveer raised an eyebrow at him, in mock surprise. She retracted the knife and folded her arms against her chest, "Now, that's an interesting offer, Asad miyan. So, you'll do just anything, if I spared Zoya's life, right?" Asad nodded his head vigorously, to which Tanveer smirked and walked towards to him in long, slow steps. She stopped when she was just half a foot away from him. She ran her index finger over Asad's forehead and cheek, to which her jerked away, disgusted. Tanveer placed both her hands on his shoulders, as she faked an innocent smile, she asked in her sugar coated voice, "Feeling shy? Never mind! Now, let's get back to business. Here's the deal, you give me two crores from that dough of yours. Agreed?" Asad nodded his head and asked, "Al...alright. You'll leave Zoya alone, now." Tanveer feigned shock, as she replied, "Uh! Not so fast! Here's the best part of the deal, you will stay away from Zoya, you will make her cry everyday, making her wonder why you're staying away from her and she'll never know that a master mind, who is myself, hatched this evil plan! Do you agree to this?" Asad stared at her in shock. "No!", he screamed. Tanveer extended the knife again and looked at Asad smugly, as the edge of the knife pointed at Zoya's neck. Asad hastily responded, "Ok, fine! I'll do as you say! Just leave her!"
Asad whacked his hand on his head, as he pushed the memory out of his mind. Both their lives had been ruined in just the matter of an hour, after their marriage. The guests had left and Zoya had also left to her room, to get her things. Suddenly, he'd received a call from Tanveer, she'd screamed and said that she was in danger. Asad's first reaction was to go help her, but what he'd found in the factory, shattered his and Zoya's life. He'd realized what a big fool he'd been, when he'd trusted Tanveer over Zoya's repeated efforts, to make him see the truth. He was broken out of his contemplation, as his phone rang. He sighed and picked up the phone, "Hello?" Asad's eyes widened, as the next set of the caller's words rang in his ears. He grabbed his blazer and ran for the door, as a small ray of hope entered him.
The police barged into the factory, as Asad dashed in, from the front. Tanveer, who was busy issuing orders to an employee, turned her head, as she heard the noise. She gulped as she saw a dozen of cops standing there, with Asad at the front of them, who was smirking at her victoriously. Tanveer wasn't able to exactly comprehend what was going on around her, but she had a gut feeling that something pretty bad was about to happen. She plastered a forced smile onto her face and looked at Asad innocently. "Jammy! You could have told me, you were coming!", she said, feigning excitement, as she walked towards Asad. She pulled him aside and hissed at him, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! Didn't I warn you of the consequences of informing the police?!" Asad stared at her smugly and called out, ignoring her, "Inspector, show her the recording." An iPad was thrust into Tanveer's hands, as she looked at quizzically. Tanveer's fingers shivered, as her hand made it across to hit the play button. Tanveer stared at the screen in shock, as the video played. She'd thought that she'd made sure that there wasn't a single trace left behind to lead the police to her. But there she was in the video, holding the knife at Zoya's neck, turning a deaf ear to Asad's aghast screams. She looked up at Asad in utter disbelief, while he asked her sarcastically, "Tannu, I think you should have been a little more careful when you trapped me and Zoya into your sadistic game, don't you think?" Tanveer gulped down, once again, as her cheeks turned red with rage and fear. Asad glowered at her, as he watched her turn her head away. He called out to the inspector, once again, "Arrest her."
Asad walked into Zoya's room, a new surge of happiness spreading throughout him, but the sight which greeted him broke his heart. All of Zoya's clothes were lying strewn across the floor, while her suitcase lay on her bed, with a few shirts hanging around the corner and there she was, sitting cross legged on the floor, staring out of the window, lost. Asad was quite sure that she hadn't acknowledged his presence yet. He slowly walked towards her, he stopped about half way through and just stared at her. He didn't know whether he should talk to her right away, or wait for another chance. He decided that he should talk to her later, but keep an eye on her, seeing that she was planning to leave the house. He backed off a little and sighed. He turned his head away, unable to bear the sight of the tears rolling down her already tear stained cheeks. Just when he was about to walk out, Zoya spoke out, "Why did we get married?" Asad turned his head and stared at Zoya, bewildered, she was still sitting cross legged on the floor, staring out of the window. She spoke again, as if in a deep trance, "Nothing will ever change between us." Asad rushed to Zoya and knelt down beside her, he caressed her tear stained cheeks and made her face him. She whispered, "You will never love me. Never." A small wave of panic hit Asad. Asad tapped Zoya's cheeks lightly, as he asked her, "Zoya? Are you ok? What happened?" Asad's eyes glistened with unshed tears, he crushed her into a hug and rubbed her back, soothingly. Zoya was still lost in a trance, chanting the same words repeatedly. Asad pulled away and shook her, "Zoya! What happened?! Why are you behaving like this?!" Zoya stared at him blankly, as his pleas and cries echoed throughout her room. Asad caressed her cheeks, once more and said, "Zoya, listen! I'm right here, with you. Please, stop scaring me! Please, just stop!" Zoya asked, "Why do you pretend that you care about me?" Asad stared at her for a few seconds, before engulfing her in a hug, yet again. Zoya pushed him away and stood up. Asad got up and was about to speak, when Zoya screamed at him, "Why're you doing this? So that you can make me believe that you love me and after that, you can break my heart, once again, right?" Asad shook his head, indicating a no, while tears slid down his cheeks. Zoya's lips quivered, as she said, "But this time, I'm not falling for your trick. I was a fool to have loved you." Asad grabbed her by her shoulders and yelled, "No! The reason why I ignored you, all these months was just to save your life! But now...things have changed. There's no one to ruin our lives, anymore. Zoya frowned at him, "To save my life?" Zoya's forehead creased in confusion. Asad went ahead to explain of Tanveer's treachery and how she'd left their house after she received the two crores from Asad, citing the reopening of her burnt factory. Zoya's eyes widened in shock, as she heard Asad. Asad finished, "I had to do this to you. Someone had been watching us constantly. If I'd tried getting close to you and if the person who had been watching us, had spotted it, he would have killed you. I couldn't afford to lose you, because of my selfishness. That is why I distanced myself from you. It stabbed my heart every time you cried, because of me. You wouldn't possibly know, it killed me within, to hurt you so much." By now, tears were streaming down both their cheeks, in a torrent. Zoya pounced on him and hugged him, while he responded by burying his head into her shoulder. They both pulled away, after a few minutes and smiled at each other, still teary eyed. Zoya looked away and blushed for some unknown reason, Asad asked, "Why're you blushing?" Zoya hesitantly replied, "Do you remember that night, when both of us had ate those bhaang filled pakhodes?" Asad nodded, smiling as the memory played in his head. Zoya bit her lip, as she drew the courage to say the next few words, "I think, there was more to that night than what we remember?" Asad frowned at her, unable to grasp the meaning of what she was trying to convey. Zoya looked down at the floor, as her cheeks turned a deeper shade of red, she whispered, "You're going to be a father." Asad stared at her, in shock. His lips slowly broke into a smile, as a tear made its way down his cheek. He engulfed her in another hug, as he cried, Zoya's arms automatically snaked around his neck, as she buried her face into his chest. Asad whispered into her hair, "I love you. I always have and always will." A few tears escaped Zoya's eyes as well, as she pulled back. She stared into Asad's yes, which were now showing all the love in the world she could ask for. She whispered back, "I love you, too." They both just stood there for the next few seconds, gazing at each other lovingly. Asad broke the silence after a while, "We are gonna start afresh. This is a new beginning." He placed one of his hands one her stomach, as she smiled at him, he completed, "A mark to a new life." Asad smiled back at her. Asad wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close in a single tug, he rested his forehead on hers, "I couldn't have asked for anything more." Zoya blushed, slightly. He whispered once again, "I love you."
A people usually say, a rainbow comes after a storm, the same happened with Asad and Zoya. Tanveer lured the two innocent souls into her sinful game, but God punished her by removing her from not only Asad and Zoya's lives, but also pushed her away into imprisonment, where no one would ever face danger, because of her. He also blessed them with their little rainbow, their gleaming ray of love, their little angel, their child. He bestowed a new beginning upon them, a new start to a whole beautiful life ahead of them. If anyone were ever to separate them, I can say for sure, they wouldn't be succeeding any time soon.
