PART 42:
"Let me get the door," Asad walked over to the door.
As soon as he opened the door, he was stunned to see a gun pointing at him.
"TRAITOR! I WILL KILL YOU!"
With bloodshot eyes and nostrils flaring, Ayaan placed the gun on Asad's forehead, "main jaanta tha tum jaise insaan par kabhie yakeen nahin karna chaahiye tha mujhey! Your intentions were always evil. Kabhie meri biwi, kabhie mere bachche aur ab Zoya ko bhi behkaa diya? I WILL KILL YOU bas***d!"
Zoya rushed to the door. Aghast, Najma and Dilshaad also followed.
"AYAAN!" Zoya yelled at him, "WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE?"
"Zoya, tum mere saath chalo. This man is danger. He is trying to take advantage of us." Ayaan glanced through the corner of his eyes and was stunned to see Zoya dressed ornately.
"BAKWAAS BANDH KARO AYAAN. KEEP THAT GUN DOWN!"
"NO ZOYA! THIS MAN NEEDS TO BE KILLED. HE HAS BETRAYED ALL OF US."
Zoya grabbed Ayaan's wrist with her left hand and diverted the muzzle skywards. A loud gunshot escaped as Ayaan had pulled the trigger by then. A whisker of a second could have killed Asad, this time at the hands of his younger brother.
Pin drop silence followed the loud boom. Zoya, Najma and Dilshaad were too dumbstruck to react.
Asad knocked the gun out of Ayaan's hand. He pulled Ayaan into the house and grabbed his neck, pinning him against a wall, "DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT BETRAYAL MR. AYAAN AHMED KHAN! Jo apne mulk ke saath gaddari karta hai, us se badha gunaahgaar koi nahin hota. You are finished! AB YA THO JAIL MEIN SADHNA YA PHANSI KE PHANDE PAR. I AM SURE NO ONE WILL GIVE YOU THAT CHOICE EITHER!"
A stunned Ayaan scanned the room. He was astonished to see Dilshaad there.
Ayaan spat on Asad, "tho yeh aap sab logon ki mili juli saazish hai! Lagta hai yahan bahut badha jashn ho raha hai."
Asad wiped his face and punched Ayaan's face forcefully, "saazish ki baat bhi mat karo tum! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO POINT FINGERS AT ANYONE!"
An incensed Ayaan kicked Asad's groin and escaped from his grip. He ran and picked the gun once again.
Asad writhed in pain but gathered himself as he saw Ayaan with the gun.
Ayaan grabbed Zoya by her neck and pointed the gun at her, "Zoya, I will kill you unless you tell me who this man is. Aur yahan kya ho raha hai?"
"AYAAN!" Dilshaad finally intervened, "tum apne hosh mein nahin ho. Behtar hoga tum yahan se chup chaap chale jao. ZOYA KO CHHOD DO!"
With a smirk on his face, Ayaan laughed maliciously, "tho aap bhi is saazish mein mili huyi hain? Wish I had never met you or addressed you as ammi!"
Asad, Zoya and Najma were stunned to hear their conversation.
"Ammi?" They were all taken aback. Dilshaad lowered her eyes but gave a dirty look to Ayaan.
Ayaan squeezed Zoya's neck and pressed the muzzle against her forehead, "batao Zoya, kaun hai yeh aadmi? Kya rishta hai iska tumse? Is he your lover? Bahut ishq ladha rahi thi na iske saath aaj parking lot mein? Duniya ke saamne tho Asad bhaijaan se mohabbat ka natak karti ho. You are a bloody wh**re!"
Zoya was visibly hurt by his accusation.
"AYAAN!" Asad's anger had no bounds. Like a bull, he charged forcefully and knocked Ayaan down with his invisible horns. He pushed him down to the floor and grabbed his neck. Zoya had been knocked off her feet too. Dilshaad and Najma came to her rescue and held her firmly.
The two men rolled around on the floor like two tigers. Asad kept a firm pressure on Ayaan's wrist lest he triggered the gun again.
"LET ME CALL THE POLICE!" Zoya yelled and picked the phone.
"WAIT ZOYA!" Dilshaad grabbed the phone from her, "let me handle this."
Taken aback by Dilshaad's gesture, she gave her a quizzical look. The two men were at each other's throats and ready to kill each other. Why was phoophi asking her to wait?
"AYAAN!" Dilshaad bent down and glared at him, "yaad hai tumne mujhse kaha tha, ki tum Asad bhaijaan jaise kyun nahin ho? Tho suno, tum kabhie Asad jaise ho hi nahi sakte. Zameen aasmaan ka farak hai tum dono bhaiyon mein."
"If Asad bhaijaan was here," Ayaan pinned down Asad on the floor, with the gun in his hand and sat on him, "he would have killed this bas***d too!"
"THIS IS ASAD BHAIJAAN!" Dilshaad gave a Ayaan a tight slap, "THE SAME ASAD BHAIJAAN THAT YOU ALMOST KILLED FIVE YEARS AGO! THE SAME ASAD BHAIJAAN WHO HAS LIVED HIS LIFE WITH HONESTY AND TRUTH! THE SAME ASAD BHAIJAAN WHO COULD HAVE ARRESTED YOU THE DAY HE CAME BACK BUT BECAUSE YOU ARE HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, HE WANTED TO GIVE YOU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AND NOT ARREST YOU WITHOUT PROOF. THE SAME ASAD BHAIJAAN, WHO IS ZOYA'S LOVE AND NOW FIANCEE. THE WOMAN YOU WANTED TO MARRY FOR YOUR SELFISH REASONS. THE WOMAN WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN YOUR WELL WISHER AND YOUR BHABHI!"
Dilshaad's slap paled against the words she had just hurled at him. The gun fell off his trembling hands. Ayaan's glance wavered between Dilshaad and Asad. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. Asad wasn't too happy with Dilshaad but he knew she had revealed his identity to save his life.
Asad jerked Ayaan off his body and grabbed his collar, "Ayaan, main yahan AK banker zaroor aaya tha lekin mera poor naam Commander Asad Ahmed Khan hai! Bhool kar bhi yeh mat samajh na main yahan tumhara Asad bhaijaan hoon. GOT IT?"
Ayaan's eyes welled up with tears, "A-Asad-b-bhaijaan? I-I had no idea aap zinda hain. Agar mujhey pata hota tho...I- I am sorry- ek chote bhai hone ke naate aap par kabhie haath nahin uthaata. I-I never intended to blow up that ship either."
Asad's heart melted on seeing tears of regret in his brother's eyes. He averted his eyes and released Ayaan from his grip.
Dusting his pants, Asad stood up and adjusted his tie, "Ayaan, if you promise to help us, maybe I could request leniency for you. Tumne gunaah tho kiya hai aur uski sazaa bhi milegi, but if you will help us get to the main culprits, I am sure they will consider that. Bolo, tumhein yeh offer manzoor hai?"
A tremulous Ayaan stood up and lowered his head, "I-I will do anything for you bhaijaan. You have always been my idol. Is se zyaada meri kya khush kismati ho sakti hai ki main aapke kaam aa paaun?"
Asad was a bit skeptical at the sudden turnaround. He tried to scrutinize the genuineness of Ayaan's expressions. Asad stared at Dilshaad and Zoya. They both nodded in approval.
"And another thing Ayaan!" Asad replied firmly, "I want you to apologize to Zoya. Mere khoon ke daman mein tho pehle se hi bahut daag hain, lekin agar koi meri mohabbat ke daman par daag lagaayega, tho main us insaan ko kabhie maaf nahin kar sakta, chaahe wo mera chota bhai hi kyun na ho!"
Zoya glanced at Asad with a tearful smile. Ayaan had humiliated her womanhood and her love for Asad; she was grateful to Asad for prioritizing her feelings over his brother's.
Ayaan walked over to Zoya, "I am sorry Zoya. I misunderstood you. You have sacrificed a lot in life. Mujhey khushi hai ki tumhein apni mohabbat wapas mil gayi. I promise I will make it up to you."
Zoya nodded and smiled at him, "I know Ayaan, you are good at heart. You are just too impulsive. I really wish you had not said those words about me. It really hurts when someone you consider a friend says something so hurtful."
"I-I am sorry Zoya." Ayaan lowered his head and bawled.
Asad picked the gun from the floor and placed his arm around Ayaan's shoulder, "Ayaan, if you are genuinely sorry then I give you 24 hours to get me all the evidence against your chief. I know the headquarters are in Dubai. We have already recovered a lot of information but we need to find the exact location for this person in Dubai. We have not been able to pin point that. I expect to see you tomorrow."
"J-jee bhaijaan!" Ayaan lifted his head and nodded at Asad.
"Kya main tum par yakeen kar sakta hoon?" Asad asked.
"Aapka hokum sar aankhon par bhaijaan." Ayaan wiped his eyes.
The two men stared at each other awkwardly. While Ayaan had always been in awe of Asad, Asad had never craved the affection of his half brother. For him, he represented the dark underground world of crime and betrayal- the same world that represented Rashid Ahmed Khan.
Dilshaad smiled and walked towards the men. She placed her arms around their shoulders, "bhai bhai ab gale lag lo. Jo hua so hua. Aaj se ek nayi shuruat hai tum dono ki."
Asad nodded gently and gave Ayaan a hug, "Ayaan, welcome to the family brother."
Ayaan gave him a bear hug and sobbed, "bhaijaan, I will do anything for you."
After Ayaan left, the four of them huddled together in a group hug. The evening was supposed to be about joy and celebration but Ayaan had completely jolted their senses. Asad was curious to know how Dilshaad knew Ayaan but at that moment, they all needed comfort and reassurance. They were all safe and together. Asad's strong arms engulfed the three women as he held them close to his chest.
Asad was relieved that his mission was in its final stages. Even though he had doubted Ayaan, his heart wanted to believe that his younger brother would finally deliver and help them get to the main culprits in Dubai.
AYAAN'S CAR: A LITTLE LATER
A frazzled and traumatized Ayaan drove aimlessly in his car. His world had just turned upside down. After Zoya had sent him away that morning, he had discovered many inconsistencies in her story. Farhan had not fallen down and there was no emergency at home. He had given her the benefit of the doubt as Humeira's paranoia could sometimes create confusion. It's not till he returned to the Arthouse and found out that Imran's body had been taken away by the police, he figured some foul play.
Later, in the parking lot, when he saw Zoya and AK intimate with each other, he had lost all his composure. He wanted to follow them right away, but his staff informed him of the intrusion in Rashid's office.
Ayaan had gone to Zoya's house with intention of killing both AK and Zoya. They had both betrayed his trust but now everything had changed.

Ayaan entered his house, dejected and confused. Was that really Asad bhaijaan? What if Zoya, AK and Dilshaad had fooled him? What if they had lied to him?
All his life, he had longed to meet his older brother; what an irony that he had been amongst them for quite some time but he had failed to recognize him. Wish he had seen that graduation video before. Then, he wouldn't have tried to kill him but that meant, Asad would have never been able to uncover Ayaan's secrets either.
He logged into Rashid's home computer and pulled out some old files.
ASAD'S GRADUATION VIDEO
It was the video that Rashid often watched but Ayaan had never had an opportunity to see. He finally saw the video. There was no doubt. AK was indeed Asad bhaijaan.
Ayaan shut the computer and cried with his face buried in his palms. He was caught in a quandary. He really wanted to belong to Asad bhaijaan's family but at the same time could he really trust a man committed to the honor of his country?
Ayaan, kya hua?" Humeira walked into the study, "aap ro kyun rahe hain?"
As soon as he saw Humeira, his mind switched gears, "Farhaan kahan hai?"
"So raha hai. Aap kahan gaye the?"
Humeira's presence helped him put things in perspective. Farhan and Humeira were his prime responsibility and that fact couldn't change despite the recent revelation.
"HUMEIRA! PACK YOUR BAGS!"
"KYA?"
"Jaldi karo. We can't waste any more time. Farhan aur apni cheezein pack karo. We will take the first boat out to Dubai right now."
"Dubai? Abhi? Lekin kyun?"
"DON'T ASK ANY QUESTIONS!" Ayaan ran to his room, made a few phone calls and packed his bag.
A dazed Humeira didn't understand the urgency of the situation but she trusted Ayaan. She packed their bags and waited for Ayaan to carry Farhan in his arms.
As the three of them sneaked out, Shireen stopped them.
"KAHAN JAA RAHE HO TUM SAB?"
Ayaan rolled his eyes, "ammi, please don't stop us. Hum yahan se bahut door jaa rahe hain. Ek aisi jagah jahan Humeira aur Farhan hifaazat se reh sakein."
"Kahan jaa rahe ho? Main bhi chaloongi. Mera yahan dum ghut tha hai."
"Ammi, main apni zimmedari nibha raha hoon. Aap please apni nibhaaiye. Go and take care of abbu. He is your responsibility. Farhan and Humeira are mine. Allah Hafiz!"
Ayaan dragged Humeira with him and walked down to the basement of the house.
Shireen stood dumbfounded in the living room. Life was slipping through her hands but she felt out of control and helpless. With Rashid still in and out of consciousness, why was Ayaan deserting her like that?
"AYAAN! AYAAN!" She yelled but he didn't respond, nor look behind.
"Yeh kahan jaa rahe hain?" Humeira asked fearfully.
"SSHHH!" Ayaan shushed her and stopped at a dark corner in the basement. He bent down gently and opened a trap door in the floor. Humeira was horror-struck but Ayaan helped her through the door.
With their bags and Farhan in tow, Ayaan and Humeira escaped through a tunnel that directed them through a secret pathway to a vessel waiting for them at the shore.
Shireen tried to follow them to basement but found herself all alone. She had no idea about the trap door. Rashid and Ayaan were the only ones who knew about this emergency exit.
ZOYA'S HOME:
After their huddle, the four of them stepped away and decided to continue their celebration. Asad was more composed now and pondered over the whole incident with Ayaan. Even though, he had been emotionally drained by the confrontation, his mind still wavered a bit.
"Ek second, main abhi aaya." Asad excused himself and called the office. He asked his officers to keep an eye on Ayaan Ahmed Khan, secure his house overnight and secretly follow him the next day.
"Chalo, let's go out to eat." Dilshaad announced as Asad walked back.
"Ammi, I have a question." Asad, lost in his thoughts, asked.
"Kya?"
"Aap Ayaan ko kaise jaanti hain?"
Dilshaad averted her gaze.
"Kya baat hai ammi? Are you hiding something from me?"
"Hospital mein."
"Oh- those routine check ups?" Asad taunted.
"Beta, tumhare abbu bahut seriously bimaar hain. He is admitted there. That's where I met Ayaan."
"Kya hua unhein?" Asad asked. Zoya and Najma joined in worried.
Dilshaad narrated the whole incident at the beach and how she was able to get him to the hospital on time.
Zoya felt sorry for Rashid, "Ya Allah phoophi! Wo us din shaam ko yahan aaye the. He looked ill. I am sure he wasn't well. I feel bad that I didn't ask him to stay. Agar aap na hoti tho shayad Rashid uncle bach bhi na paate."
"Allah ka shukr hai ki main wahan pahunch gayi, warna-warna na jaane kya ho jaata?" Dilshaad lamented.
Asad stiffened and gave Dilshaad a stern look.
"Jaanti hoon beta," Dilshaad lowered her eyes, "maine ek gunaahgaar ko panaah di hai."
"Baat panaah ki nahin hai ammi. You did the right thing but I wish you had discussed this with me. Not lied to me. Bachpan se ab tak yahi tho sunte aa rahe hain aapse ki aapko jhooth se kitni nafrat hai? Kya Rashid sahib ko dekhkar aap apne usoolon ko bhool gayi?"
"Asad, I know I lied. I am your culprit. It's not a matter of principles but a matter of love and life. Chaahe main unse kitna naaraaz rahi hoon, unko us halat mein dekhkar mujhey ehsaas hua ki main abhi bhi tumhare abbu se pehle jaisi hi mohabbat karti hoon."
Zoya placed her arm around Dilshaad, "phoophi, please don't feel guilty. Aapne kabhie koi galat kaam nahin kiya hai. Dil par hamara zor nahin hota."
"I want to see him." Asad replied with a wry expression.
"What?" Dilshaad was surprised, "I-I hope tum unhein arrest tho nahin karna chaahte na?"
"Ammi, gunaahgaar ko saza tho zaroor milegi but don't worry, I am not that heartless. I just want to see him. Jo aadmi meri ammi ko itne saal baad bhi affect kar sakta hai, us insaan mein kuch baat tho zaroor hogi na?" Asad had tears in his eyes. Recently, his emotions towards his father had vacillated a lot but tonight, he wanted to meet him as his son.
AT THE HOSPITAL:
Asad waited outside the patient room as Dilshaad, Zoya and Najma entered Rashid's room quietly. Watching his father unconscious, connected to various tubes and lines was an overwhelming sight. He couldn't believe that man whom he once called abbu, who carried him on his shoulders was a helpless, sick alcoholic with a very poor prognosis. At that moment, he was not a criminal, but a man who had made the wrong choices in life and instead of fighting against his failures, had surrendered to them in the name of destiny.
He was surprised to see Rashid stir a bit. Dilshaad sat next to his bed, holding his hand. Just then, Rashid tried to peer through his eyes, his fingers trembled but Dilshaad held them firmly, reassuring him about her presence.
"Rashid?" She had tears in her eyes. This was the first time he had opened his eyes in days.
Najma and Zoya sat at foot of the bed, relieved to see him regain some consciousness.
"A-A-A," Rashid tried to utter something through the oxygen mask.
"Jee?" Dilshaad lifted the mask and placed her ear next to his lips.
"Asad? Asad kahan hai?" He asked.
So, he had heard and registered the news about Asad in his mind, Dilshaad concluded. She lifted her head and glanced at the door. Asad stood there with tears in his eyes.
"Zoya?" Dilshaad glanced at her. Zoya nodded; she understood what Dilshaad implied.
She walked over and opened the door.
"Mr. Khan," Zoya held his hand, "please come inside. Your abbu wants to see you."
Asad hesitated but Zoya squeezed his clenched fist with both her palms, "please Mr. Khan."
He lowered his eyes and then followed Zoya, slowly his footsteps entered the patient room.
Rashid had a faint smile on his face; he lifted his hand, as if reaching out to Asad.
Dilshaad nodded gently and gestured Asad to hold his father's hand.
Zoya didn't let go of Asad's hand. She helped him walk over to the bed.
The two men exchanged tearful glances. Rashid felt a weight had lifted from his chest when he saw his son alive and well; Asad was besieged by emotions.
"Asad beta." Rashid's hand touched Asad's finger.
"Abbu." Asad couldn't hold his tears as he grabbed his father's hand and cried silently.
Najma ran over and hugged her father also.
Rashid placed his arm around his daughter, "meri choti si tamatar kitni badhi ho gayi hai."
Asad's tears and red nose filled Rashid's heart.
"Beta mujhey maaf kar dena. Main tumhara gunaahgaar hoon. Allah tumhein wo saari khushiyan de jiske tum haqdaar ho. Remember son, never stop fighting for the right thing. Don't be a coward like your abbu. Agar mujhey hath kadhi pehnaani hai tho wo bhi pehnaa dena. I am a criminal and don't deserve mercy from anyone.""
Asad nodded silently. He held onto his father's hand. His heart ached to reassure and hug his father but a part of him tried best to contain his emotions. Rashid sensed Asad's predicament. He didn't want to place his son in a moral dilemma. Just then, he felt Rashid's hand go limp in his palms.
"ABBU!" Asad yelled.
The monitors beeped. The heart tracing showed a flat line. His lips turned blue.
Rashid had bid farewell to them forever. His soul had waited to reunite with his beloved family. They were all there; their eyes filled with tears, they had all forgiven him for is sins. Even though he felt he never deserved them, he held onto them till his last breath. For him deliverance was a loving glance from Dilshaad, a hug from his daughter and a tear in his son's eyes...
...to be contd...

unresI'm speechless right now! This update is the best you've ever written, hands down! 👏 👏 👏Rashid's death scene was actually playing out in front of my eyes. So poignant it was. And damn emotional. I'm still teary eyed.Couldn't have been any better! It was absolutely perfect! The action part was brilliant too. Brilliant is a very small word actually.Loved it to bits!Still can't believe what Ayaan said to Zoya. And he ran away? Didn't see that coming. I thought he'd help but well he's not Asad, now is he?The death scene was so beautiful. I just can't get over it!P.S. If you become a scriptwriter, the movie/serial would be a blockbuster hit!
