It is a sorry state of affairs indeed! Pathetic is the word for it! Even some of these so called day to day dramas are showing women going to work or helping their family business etc AFTER marriage! They are slowly trying to move with the times!!
But women like Gul and Ekta who are career women themselves, MAKE all their money selling cliched and outdated ideas about women's roles to the masses to apparently gain TRP's!! Women's only ambition in life is shown to be marriage, and if they don't get that, then they would rather commit suicide than live? Seriously? Appalling message to send to young women!
I am not Indian and I live in a western country, so to ME the stuff they are showing is totally unacceptable and unpalatable! But I am sure even audiences in India surely cant be THIS regressive that they ENJOY this sort of objectification of women? Having said that... The Lamp and Wick show which is one of the most pathetic shows, has the highest TRP! But at least in that show, the woman has ambition, but again, needs a MAN to help her fulfil her dream! Coz if not for her husband, by now she would have been trampled under the boot of her nasty and regressive mother in law!
WHY is it that Indian dramas thrive on showing educated females as underlings of men or other women who control households? Why are the female leads shown as self sacrificing and crying? Why are the MEN expected to be self sacrificing to prove they are good sons, brothers etc? But they are NEVER expected to sacrifice themselves to be a good husband or lover? Its pathetic and always send the message that a man has the right to objectify a female! I don't care WHO he is sacrificing for! He has NO right to force a women into a situation she did NOT chose!
I cant believe they get away with showing such utter crap even in this day and age, and dress it up as Drama?
