And it is a retrospective story..Jodha and Akbar are telling their story...so all can rest assured there are no makor heart breaks etc...What everyone wants from a serial..PEACE OF MIND...some romance, some drama..all ingredients are there.

not everyone is a major fan of history and this serial has been criticized on the grounds that Jodha was in reality NOT akbar's wife

Heh chicksoup, interesting post. I do have a response but it might not be to every ones liking. 😛

I should preface anything I say with - I am watching Qubool Hai specifically for its story - not for Asad, not for Zoya or anybody else. I watch the show because it has/had an interesting premise and in all honestly is possibly the best show on Indian Telly. However, saying that, I still do have issues with characters, acting and sometimes even the writing. I am not going to get into all the characters on the show just the leads -

Asad: He is an interesting character no doubt but to me that doesn't mean I don't get to call him out on his flaws. Part of what makes Asad who he is, is his sometimes myopic viewpoint of life. Whether it was making a harsh judgment about Zoya's character or now where he is willing to make a decision about his sisters life without asking her. It is very much in character for him to do such a thing but it is also something I choose not to defend. He is a character who plays a larger role in the bigger picture. Part of what make him interesting is the fact that he is flawed. I choose to see QH as his journey to achieve some amount of personal growth. In fact he already has learnt one lesson and I am eager for him to learn the next one - the one where he doesn't excuse his brother's actions.

Zoya: From the day she was introduced she has been characterized as this Ott modern girl with a large heart. But one cannot take away from the fact that no matter what her intentions are the character can be very irritating and annoying. Specifically with regards to her in this situation - I do find her to be pushy on the issue of marriage however, out of context, what Zoya said yesterday was not wrong. Her timing though was colossally bad! In hear eagerness to ensure Najma's happiness she hasn't taken the time to :

1. Understand Dilshaad and Asad's reservations
2. That this whole discussion requires her to be a silent spectator unless asked otherwise.

Ayaan: Now to me he is the character I truly hate. Let me rephrase that - love to hate. He is an immature, cruel and manipulative child who throws a fit when things aren't going his way. He remembers his brother when he needs a bike or money or to but gifts but conveniently forgets Asad's pain and suffering when big brother decides to do something that doesn't suit his needs. A lot of people on this forum have gone on and on about how Ayaan was only standing up for his sister but when Asad stands up for his mother against Shireen how does Ayaan choose to react? Ayaan claims to have a great relationship with his brother but has myopic view on his brother's feelings and life. He is self-absorbed to the boot!

Now, why have I mentioned all of the above - well I guess the point is that as an objective viewer the complexities of these character - good, flaws and all is what makes the show interesting for me. I judge the characters at the same expectation and each of them has done some harm at some point of time and I am not going to sugar coat my response to them because they are my leads. However, while I do like to call the characters for bad behavior it is also a draw for me because I want to see them all understand their flaws and grow from it. To me - this is what QH is about - not AsYa and AyRa.

Same here, Delena. I watch it for the complete package. You will find me defending Asad, Ayan, Rashid, Imran...all..because they all have shades of grey...which is what I find in real life too...so pretty much of it is well written for me.

I also find that Gul's characterisation is believable for me, but many cannot connect with them probably because they have not seen what she has seen. I have, more or less...hence I can understand. If I bash Najma or Imran, I know I have to defend them too..because no one should be judgemental...ultimately oit is eacg one's life.

But people make decisions in real life, which I cannot relate to, though I do have teh sense not to comment or judge them based on it.

I agree with you totally on the character growth and the flaws. Indeed, both of them have a fair measure of it..that is what makes their journey exciting.

BUt Asad being the decision maker in Najma's case...I think it is a formed characterestic...not something that has to be developed...because he is simply the decision maker there..has been and will be.

If my father tells me I cannot marry the guy who WAS REJECTED by my sister once up on a time, I WILL NOT QUESTION IT...even if I love the guy.

Because if I really do, I will up and go with him...the fact that I chose to respect my father shows who I love more. (And the fact that I didn't even consider him 'worth it' three years back, speaks volumes about WHO I SHOULD LISTEN TO NOW,)

It might not be digestible to you , based on your upbringing..but it is the reality of almost every Indian Middle class girl. BELIEVE ME.

I agree, only since you pointed it out.😳

It was never an issue for me otherwise...Zoya is a doer, NOT A THINKER...HAS NEVER BEEN. I don't expect her to consider any one's feelings when she has her telescopic vision on, FIXED ON ONE GOAL...esp when she has a hunch that the more Asad waits on this, the more likely he is going to be swayed by his 'old school of thought'...one sister should not marry another one's ex- fiance' and so on...SO SHE STRIKES WHEN THE IRON IS HOT!😉

AYAN! 😆 I don't hate him, actually. Because Asad does not hate him. He is quite lovable, despite his flaws...because he is a spoilt child. Gafy cannot stand him, and I don't wantto be on that team.

Jokes aside, what I like is the fact that he DOES NOT HIDE FROM BHAIJAAN. HE IS AN OPEN BOK TO ASAD. When someone does that to you, it is actually an honour. And Asad does not look for support from Ayan OR HIS UNDERSTANDING...because he knows they have been brought up differently, by different mother...he loves him despite his flaws...I do too.😳

It is not about sugar coating for me..IT IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING and trying to be NON- JUDGEMENTAL...I can understand what Gul is trying to tell, much better that way...it is not JUST a love story or a romance..or a sibling relationship...it is simply the care that has gone into writing each character...and how believably grey they are. And they don't have to grow in all those FLAWED departments for me...because, ultimately I guess we learn to accept people the way they are. They make mistakes, learn from some...make more mistakes...learn some more...but they are never going to be perfect. And I am not going to hate them for the mistakes they make...not even a Najma who wants to pursue a dream, after seeing another woman's dream shattered.😕😆

I know nobody around me is perfect, including me...and I know there is no point trying to judge them or criticise them...because I could be judged too..That's why I am considered boring when it comes to gossip time.😉
