Through The Monsoon: Part 20

Zoya closed the front door behind her, heaving a slow sigh of sadness as she did. The whole day had passed and she hadn't managed to find anything that could possibly lead her to her father. Thanks to the fact that the rain had chased most people indoors, there weren't many people wandering around the Badi Masjid for her to ask about her father anyway. And now with Phuphi's ultimatum and Asad's idea to put up a charade until Friday, she didn't even have much time left to continue searching. She dragged her feet forlornly to her room, too distracted to even notice Tanveer standing in the kitchen, shooting daggers at her with her eyes.

Mental and physical exhaustion taking a toll on her, Zoya settled herself down on her bed, the events from earlier playing in her head. Waking up in bed next to Asad, how he fought for her to stay when Phuphi told her to leave, and how he agreed to the nikaah with such cool confidence, almost like as though he really meant it. Did he? Yeah, right. Wasn't he the one who kept harping on how different they are from each other and how they'd never be compatible? She squeezed her eyes shut and pushed her head further into her pillow, trying to block out thoughts that'd just grow to hurt her later on.

Zoya sat up after a moment, realizing at long last that burying her head into her pillow doesn't stop her brain from thinking about things it probably shouldn't. She looked around for something to distract her thoughts when the latest copy of her favourite magazine 'Glamour Girl' caught her eye. She had yet to read it, and this would be the perfect time to. She picked it up from her side table and flipped through it aimlessly, trying to find an interesting article to read.

Zoya read the article with great interest, her eyes widening every few minutes. She snapped the magazine shut and held it against her chest. Was her answer really a kiss away? Does this mean all she needs to do to find out if it would work out with Asad is to... kiss him? Zoya hadn't even managed to wrap her mind around this new discovery when the object of her thoughts came barging into her room, without even knocking. She quickly flung her magazine off the bed before Asad caught her with it.

"Kya hua Miss Farooqui? Kuch pata chala aapke abbu ke baare mein?" Asad asked, towering over her as he approached her bed. He had noticed that Zoya was reading some girly magazine before he came in, but he didn't understand why she had to throw it upon his arrival. She really behaved so strangely at times. And now she wasn't even answering him! Sighing audibly, he decided to repeat his question.

Zoya stared at Asad distractedly as he repeated himself, realizing that she didn't even know what he was saying because all her focus was on how his lips moved as he articulated his words. Zoya found herself shifting to the side of the bed where Asad was standing, slowly rising to her knees on her bed to face Asad directly. Asad pouted as he watched Zoya shift around and yet make no attempt to answer him. Zoya almost lifted her hand to touch his face. What would it feel like, to have those lips on hers?
