Chapter 38 Dom's truth comes out
Asad ran outside with Dom right behind him. He looked all around shouting out for Zoya. He saw Dom behind him and said, "Let's split up...you go right and I go left and if you see anything, I mean anything, call me...I have my phone. Here is my number." He ratted out his number while Dom punched it in.
Asad looked at Dom pleadingly, "please don't harm her and if you are Raul's guy, take me, leave her alone. I swear I will send her away...just don't do anything." Asad was in tears.
Dom walked up to Asad and said, "I will not harm her, I promise...now let's go, we are wasting time."
Asad wiped his tears and with a last look at Dom, walked away.
He looked everywhere, for any piece of evidence or anything that could be hers. He found nothing. It had been two hours since she was gone and it felt like forever. He dropped on his knees dejectedly and looked up at the sky. "Please God, why is this happening. Bring her back to me...I can't live without her, I don't know what it is about her that pulls me to her. I feel alive when I'm with her but when she is gone, I feel depressed as if my heart has stopped. What is going on?"
Asad got up and slowly walked back to the farmhouse. He saw Dom sitting on the steps waiting for him and by the looks of it, it seemed like Dom did not have any info either. Asad sat down beside Dom and dropped his head on his knees. Dom reached out and reassuringly squeezed his shoulders. "We will find her...I promise."
Asad looked at Dom and said, "where...I don't even know where to start."
Dom smiled and said, "Seems like you've lost your touch."
Asad looked at Dom confused at what he said. "What do you mean?"
Dom said, "You love her don't you?"
Asad kept mum.
Dom continued, "Why don't you tell her?"
"i can't." replied Asad
"Why not?" asked Dom.
"I just can't...please don't pressure me." yelled Asad.
"If you love her then you should have the strength to fight anything." argued Dom.
"Yes, I know and I will fight, but not when her life is on the line...I cannot play around with her life." said Asad.
"I will help you." whispered Dom.
Asad looked up at Dom and Dom gestured to go inside.
They both got up and walked in. Dom walked to his room and reached for his bag. He took out all his clothes and reached for a packet at the bottom. He opened it and pulled out a badge and a card and handed it to Asad.
Asad looked at him all confused. "Dominic Romero? Oh My...I ..I...I...umm...thought you were... but your face looks different. I don't understand..."
"Yes I know, everyone thought I was dead. I stayed in the shadows and kept an eye on you." said Dom.
"You kept an eye on me...You mean like watched me all the time...wait a minute, you were the mystery man that I contacted...OMG, but your voice sounded different...Sheesh, how could I not have noticed the voice, I cant believe it. All these years." said Asad.
"I changed my voice when I spoke with you, which is why you never recognized it." replied Dom.
"But, how come you came out in the open now?" asked Asad.
"Because you were hell bent on saving your girlfriend and I could not leave you here in the middle of nowhere with no backup or protection." replied Dom.
Asad looked at Dom and smiled. He reached out for him and they both shared a friendly hug. "I can't believe it...it's been so long. You look so different."
"Yeah, Im really sorry about what happened to your sister." said Dom.
"So am I, But let's talk about you...so what happened to you?" asked Asad.
"Well, you remember after your wife saw me on TV and identified me as your friend and put two and two together to realize we were both FBI agents, well, a day later, someone followed me home. I was beaten and taken to some remote area and left there in an old abandoned house. They torched the place intending to burn me alive. I was badly burned when some villagers found me. You could barely recognize me. They took me to a doctor that had come to town to help the town people with immunizations. He was a really nice fellow and called his friend to come down. His friend was a plastic surgeon and they took me to Washington for my surgery. Since they had no idea what I looked like, they did the best they could using my bone structure as a guidance. That took over a year and then I was as good as I could get. I decided to look you up and read up on everything. I knew I could not come back in your life as it would be dangerous and the same people who tried to kill me would be after me so I followed you around and shadowed you for awhile. When I realized you were safe, I went and opened my own security company with the money my grandfather left me when he passed away. I checked up on you once in a while and was satisfied that you were ok until a few days ago when I heard back and knew you were in trouble again. So here we are..." narrated Dom.
Asad just stared at him and Dom looked at him puzzled... "I cant believe I did not recognize you...and I'm sorry for hitting you." said Asad sheepishly.
"Hey Man, that's ok, happens when you are trying to protect your love." said Dom.
Asad suddenly remembered Zoya..."Oh My God, Zoya...we have to find her."
Dom smiled when he realized that Asad remembered Zoya when he said we are trying to protect your love.
Asad looked at Dom smiling and said, "What? Why are you smiling?"
"Nothing...lets pack up and get out of here." said Dom
"Yes, but we cannot pack everything and carry it. That is too much. Just take the essentials." said Asad.
"You have your hardware?" asked Dom
"Yes, I do...An agent is always on duty." replied Asad.
The two men went to the room and started to get ready. They both wore their bulletproof vests and tucked their guns in their pants. They both strapped their ankle holster and tucked in another gun as well as a knife. They both filled their backpacks with essentials like water, granola bars, first aid kit and oh not forgetting a few bombs and smoke bombs etc.
They looked at each other and their eyes spoke this time. They both knew this mission was dangerous but a look passed between them that said, no matter what, they would save Zoya, even if it meant their death.'
Asad was about to ask Dom something when Dom said, "Don't ask...Don't make me feel like an outsider...You are like my brother and I will do everything I can to save Zoya and you because I've realized she is your life even though you are so stubborn to realize it."
Asad smiled when he realized Dom knew what he was going to say but instead he said, "Actually I was going to ask if you wanted some lessons on how to be an agent, since it has been a while you know."
Dom chuckled. "You need lessons more than me since you have been behind a desk all this time, at least I have been in the field."
Their banter continued for a few more minutes, each trying to cheer up the other and then Asad turned serious and said, "Thanks man...in case I dont get to tell you later...I really appreciate everything you have done for me. Although I still don't understand why you kept your identity hidden when you were here with us for a couple of days and how come when I called it connected with you as my source...that's a little confusing?"
Dom smiled and said, "that I will tell you when we are done with our mission...let's call it Mission Zoya."
Asad smiled and said, "Mission Zoya it is...MZ for short. Anyway, you ready?"
"Yes, give me a few minutes, I have to find out some information and we will be on our way." replied Dom.
Asad let him go and prepared himself for what was to come. It was going to be a dangerous mission and he could lose his life...
