Chapter 12
Asad came home around the tine for dinner and was greeted by a over-cheerful Zoya. He became alert. Surely she had something cooked up in her head. He was an expert in reading her now.
"Mr Khan! Go change! We will have yummmyyy dinner tonight!"
Asad smiled uncertainly and went to his room, looking back at her twice. He came out after a whike and cautiously took his seat, his eyes darting around everywhere looking for something out of place, something abnormal. He wanted to know what she had in her mind and was growing impatient.
"Asad any problem?"
"Jee...nahin Ammi!"
"Itne tensed ho beta! Koi..."
"Phoophi aap bekar ki tension le rahi hain! Mr Khan is perfectly fine! You know what you need? Home made aloo paranthas by the great Zoya Farooqui!"
Zoya went around the table serving aloo paranthas to Dilshad and Najma. When she passed around Asad and sat with the rest, he snatched two paranthas from her plate. She gawked at him and Dilshad and Najma smiled.
"MrKhan how rude! Where are your table manners?"
"Miss Farooqui you have tried this before!"
Asad smirked at her, letting her know that her plan failed.
"Whatever!"
She muttered and Asad beamed. First of all, she lost to him and he was getting aloo paranthas made by her, finally. Last time she had been angry with him and he didn't get his share as she had said something like:
"Maine jaan bujh karr nahin diya MrKhan ko! I don't want him to blame me for increase in his calories etc etc. His protein food and cereals are best for him."
He smiled and bit into his aloo parantha. Immediately he found himself choking and coughing. She had added so much chilly into it. Dilshad, Najma and Zoya hovered around him asking what was wrong. Asad glared at Zoya as she got him a candy. She looked at him innocently, her eyes twinkling with mischief. He could guess she had something more up her sleeves, and hence he didn't take it from her. She shrugged. He tried to get up and leave, but Dilshad stopped him.
"Now you two...enough of your games! I can't handle it anymore. You two need to marry now."
Zoya choked on the water she was drinking. Asad shot her a look. Both were clearly uncomfortable. Yes they were in love and they had admitted to each other. But marriage was a huge step and they hadn't considered it yet. Dilshad smiled seeing their reaction.
"I know tum dono will think and say you aren't prepared. But trust my judgement for once. You two are prepared like ever and there is no better time. You are getting married in two weeks...and that's final."
With that Dilshad got up and left. Later at night, Asadsat in his room wondering about whether they were actually going to marry. He smiled imagining Zoya dressed on a red bridal attire. She would be such a beautiful bride...his beautiful bride. Suddenly someone knocked at his door and he snaped out of his reverie. He got up and opened the door. It was Zoya standing with a tray of aloo paranthas and a glass of water. She tried not to meet his eyes and moved in.
"MrKhan I am sorry about that. Here, I made good aloo parantha for you!"
Asad smiled at her.
"Miss Farooqui, why did you knock?"
Something about his voice made her look up at him and meet his smiling and teasing eyes. She smiled back and said:
"Because I am never going to knock when it becomes my room!"
He looked away blushing and grinning.
"Mr Khan why are you blushing? I should be the one to blush."
His eyes locked with hers and he took small steps towards her. She shivered under his gaze and moved back..until her back hit the wall. He stood a few inches away from her...their breaths hitting their faces. His fingers rose and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Her breathing was going wild and she closed her eyes as his fingers ran over her cheek in a slow motion. He leaned in closer and her lips parted slightly. He smiled and whispered near her ear:
"Why are you blushing Miss Farooqui?"
Her eyes snapped open in shock and he tried to hide his smile. She glared at him and pushed him away. She turned to leave, enraged that he tried to seduce her to make his point. He held her hand and said:
"Miss Farooqui thanks for the parantha!"
She looked back at him and there was a sincere genuine smile on his face. She noticed the hidden meaning too, something he refused to tell her openly. She sighed and sat down. She watched him eat. She smiled knowing very well that he liked those paranthas made by her.
When only a small piece remained, he fed her. She wiped away the oil stuck to his lips and didn't listem as he explained how she should have used a napkin. After the food was over, she got up to leave. He followed her. She washed the tray and he dried it. They were in total sync, though nobody said a word. Sometimes when you are with your special someone, even if you are not talking...it feels perfect. You just need to fell their presence with you and that's what matters. In a while, they were done. He walked her to her room (yes he did that.) He stood in front of her room and said:
"Miss Farooqui, what do you..umm think about what Ammi said?"
"What do you think MrKhan?"
"I will go by what you say."
"Are you ready MrKhan?"
"I am ready Miss Farooqui."
"Then I am ready too Mr Khan. All I want is to have you by my side...forever!"
"I am by your side forever Zoya!"
"I want you by my side..only my side. And I want to be the only one by your side. Except Phoophi Najma of course."
"You know that's how it is Miss Farooqui!"
"I don't want to be Miss Farooqui anymore! I want to be your Mrs Khan now, Mrs Zoya Asad Ahmed Khan!"
He smiled at her answer...and the sound of his name, sound of her name mixed with his. It was music to his ears and he couldn't help saying:
"I want my Mrs Zoya Asad Ahmed Khan too!"
She looked down blushing. He called her gently.
"I...I love you Zoya!"
"I love you too Asad!"
And she shut the door on his face. He was shocked...still not believing what she had said. She took his name. She called him Asad, not Mr Khan. It was the third time in his life that she called him by his first name...and it was the best & most clear. The way she said his name...it was different, unique and lovely. A normal person would have said it was HOT, but this was Asad Ahmed Khan and such words didn't exist in his dictionary. Now it's different that his future wife's dictionary is full of such words. He was grinning at her door. He turned back to his room and even after getting fresh and settling on his bed, he was still grinning like a fool. Her voice still rang in his head clearly...
"I love you too Asad!"
He couldn't wait to marry her and waking up to get greeted that way, or to go to sleep like that...or to spend his whole life like that.
