Since this fire sequence is going on in the show, I thought of this !😉pls drop ur precious comments 😛
Asad was sitting quietly in his room , typing furiously on his laptop when he heard a voice.
"Help! Please open the door! Mr. Khan, Phoopi, Najma!"
Asad immediately realized it was Zoya's voice. It seemed troubled. He got up and hurriedly walked towards her room. This girl was always up to something, he thought.
Najma and Dilshad were already at the door. They were looking horrified. He looked at the closed door. Through the translucent glass, could see the faint outlie of Zoya and in the backdrop flames arose like a million hands had been raised together. They shone so much even through the door that he had to shield his eyes. The truth soon dawned upon him and panic took over.
"Zoya!", he shouted.
There was no reply. He budged the door, it wouldn't open. With all the might he had, he pulled the door outwards, the hinges creaked and the door gave away. Zoya slumped at his feet, she was unconscious. Najma and Dilshaad dragged Zoya out of the room while Asad put water on the bed and the oaken bookshelf behind it that had caught fire. After putting about a gallon of water, his attempts were successful. Wisps of smoke clouded the entire room. He opened the windows and let them be.
Asad turned to Najma who was desperately trying to shake Zoya out of unconsciousness and sprinkling her face with water. Asad ran towards her.
Zoya's face was hot there were droplets of sweat on her forehead. She had not been burnt. He was relieved. He carried her and took her to his room and lay her onto his bed.
He rubbed her hands and feet. Dilshad came into the room and disclosed that she had called the doctor.
Asad was apprehensive. He got up from the bed and went stand beside Dilshad.
"How did this happen, ammi? How did Zoya's room catch fire?"he asked.
"I don't know Asad, Najma and I heard Zoya scream for help and we came running."
Suddenly Zoya woke up and started shrieking. The three of them were startled.
"Ammi! "Zoya screamed and started sobbing looking at the door of the room and motioning with her hands, as if trying to put down some imperceptible thing.
Tears streamed down her cheeks and she called for help desperately, as if in a trance.
Asad, dumbfounded, looked towards the door and then back at Zoya. What was she indicating? Asad was perplexed.
Ammi? Why is Zoya calling out for her mother who is already …..? the realization hit him in the gut and knocked the air out of him. Zeenat had told him that Zoya was afraid of fire, because she had seen her mother burn to death right before her eyes.
Asad looked at Zoya, she was wailing and screaming as if it were a funeral of a dear one.
And maybe it was. the fire that had caught twenty years earlier had destroyed her childhood and family, her mother had been engulfed by the fire and she had been scarred for life.
And this fire, twenty years later had probably brought back the horrendous memories of that fateful day. Asad realized that Zoya was hallucinating out of fear.
He looked at Zoya, howling like a child lost in a fair and Najma and Dilshad trying to calm her down.
He put a hand on her shoulder.
"Mr. Khan! Please someone put down the fire! Bring some water! Ammi!" Zoya, blinded by tears, held him by the collar and wildly jerked him back and forth.
Asad enveloped her in his arms, trying to take away as much of pain as possible.
"Zoya, there is no fire, look around."
Zoya buried her face in his chest and cried, refusing to even look at the room that was calmer than the sea.
He cupped her face and with great tenderness and care, he said to her "Look at me. Zoya, I'm here with you, calm down."
But she shook wildly with fear, refusing to accept the truth.
The doctor, meanwhile, walked into the room accompanied by Najma.
"Ms. Farooqui, we all are here to help you, there is no fire." The doctor said, moving towards Zoya.
Zoya, on the other hand, was trying to grope at something invisible. Her behavior was intimidating. All of a sudden, she fainted. Asad caught her in his arms and put her on the bed.
Her voice was still ringing in his ears, there was so much of anguish and despair. He felt awful.
The doctor checked Zoya's blood pressure and prescribed some medicines. She told Asad that it was absolutely natural for Zoya to behave in the manner she did, since she had been victimized by fire before. She advised them to take good care of her, more mentally than physically. She suggested that they try and make her forget about the incident.
Asad and the others proceeded outside and left Zoya alone sleeping.
The stars were peeping out and it was a bout midnight. Everybody in the house was fast asleep, tired after the day's fiasco while Asad was twisting and turning in his bed.
He stared at the ceiling fan, unsure of what to do. The uneasiness was stuck on him like a shadow. Her screams and sobs were still ringing in his ears, puncturing his eardrums. He had this immense urge to go and check on her.
He did not feel sympathy; the feeling was more of care, love and guilt partly, since he had been so indifferent to her, always.
He got up and went to her room.
