He got up and went to her room. The moonlight shone on her face as she slept calmy.
He sat besides her and watched her. She was so unexplainably beautiful. There was this charm around her, which had enchanted him. he smiled and put a hand on her cheeks. It was warm and he felt a strange guilt. He traced his finger over her eyes and it slowly circled her cheeks. maybe he was imagining things or maybe Zoya actually smiled while sleeping.
After an hour or so, he decided to go back to sleep. He gave her a small peck on her forehead and stood up.
Just as he turned, Zoya held his hand. Surprised, when Asad turned around Zoya was wide awake. She was smiling from ear to ear.
"I wasn't asleep Mr. Khan." she said sitting up, with a smug smile on her face.
"Actually, I was…., I mean,.. you, I…..You should be taking rest" Asad concluded.
"And you should be in your room, snoring off to glory." She snapped back.
He couldn't hide the sheepish smile on his face. a million thoughts raced in his mind, and while he was thinking of a plausible explanation, his hand reflexively rustled his hair.
"Why aren't you asleep?"Asad said, trying to steer the conversation towards Zoya's insomnia rather than his being in her room.
"I'm trying not to sleep." She said, folding her legs and enwrappimg her hands around her knees.
"I don't want to see all those sordid, horrible images unfold all over again, especially after what happened today." She looked away, trying to choke back tears. She seemed embarrassed that she had let everyone a glimpse into her complicated past that shrouded her present even now.
Asad felt as if a dagger had just pierced his heart. The plain fact that Zoya smiled and made everyone's day while having to put up with such a huge mental catastrophe each night, brought a tear to his eye.
"When I see you and Najma with Phoopi, I wonder what it is to have a mother. I miss Ammi." She sobbed.
Asad could not see her crying, it felt like hurting himself. He sat down besides her and unsure of his actions, put an arm around her shoulder. Instinctively, she rested her hear over his shoulder. Crying in his embrace gave her solace and peace.

The stars burned out and the Asad and Zoya spent the entire night in each others arms. Zoya slept like a log, the most peaceful sleep she had had in about a lifetime. As the sun came up, Zoya was woken up by the sun shining on her face. her eyes grew from small to wide when she realized the position she was in. her hands were over Asad's chest, she could feel the perfectly carved abs inside the thin cotton. His arms were over her in a bear hug and their faces were inches apart.
Zoya looked at him and she couldn't help wonder how cute he looked when asleep. The night had passed in a blink of an eye but she could only crave for more. It took all of her will to stop herself from sealing the distance between their lips. As she tried to move Asad woke up. He lazily opened his eyes but jerked immediately when he realized that his arms were all over her.
He removed his hands and they looked in opposite directions. Awkward. Awkward. Awkward.
Zoya swiftly got up and just as she moved Asad held her hand. He wasn't going to apologize. It was not a mistake.
"I don't regret anything." He said, unsure of Zoya's reply.
She turned around and smiled. The smile affirmed that she didn't either. And the night had been perhaps their most beautiful moments together.
