I am Sikh so I cannot comment on the religious aspect of wearing a skirt, therefore, I am going to skip it all together because I don't know enough about Islam to be able to give context to my words in that I do not know what is considered good and bad/what is against your religion. But I must comment on your last point which I agree with more than words can explain. I do not understand why it is okay to wear the most revealings sarees yet at the same time it is completely not okay to wear a skirt that shows off your legs. When Zoya wears sarees she has a couple of strings tying her blouse and the rest of her back can be seen. I would assume that is the same as showing off your legs, yet, that is accepted. That is something I am completely unable to understand. I don't care if Zoya wears a skirt and again that may be because I am from a completely different religion and in my religion as far as I know it is not against anything to wear skirts although most parents do not want their kids to wear skirts. But I don't think that in order to show that Zoya is modern and liberal they have to show her wearing a short skirt. I do not think it is your clothes that make you modern or liberal. Instead it's your thoughts that make you modern/liberal. I think we need to get over this stereotype. I am very liberal/modern person and I have lived in the United States for my whole life, in fact I was born here but that doesn't mean I wear clothes like Zoya. I think Gul needs to separate stereotypes and reality. Maybe she should take a trip to New York where her beloved character is from and try to understand the dynamics and culture and then incorporate that into Zoya's character because as far as I am concerned to me Zoya is not an "American" girl. Far from it to be honest.
