I think that to say Asad is in denial or is hurting Zoya is an unfair accusation. He has accepted that he loves Zoya. He knows that from all his past actions. Coming back from Mangalpur he was in denial but after Tanveers entrance you can practically see him giving into his feelings (through the smiles). He is not in denial but...He doesnt think Zoya feels that strongly for him yet he cant let her go completely. Makes sense as he has shown time and time again his care for Zoya. Not just mangalpur but he has also verbalised that if something happened to her he would go crazy. His tears hearing about her past, his support for her and so on have all been a display of his affection Apart from Zoyas petty jealousy Asad has never really seen her love for him. She has never said anything to him but expects him to make the first move. Zoya knows Asad loves her but Asad is still unsure. Understandable in my opinion as Zoya acts indifferent to him as well sometimes.
Repeatedly Asad keeps asking her how she feels and what does it mean to her to wear his ring- aapko kya maina rakhta hai...
The biggest giveaway was that one reaction when Zoya asks Asad- didnt you say that for you an engagement is very sacred and pure ... he very hesitatingly nods his head...
The nod was so beautifully done...
BUT Zoya dear is so wound up and highstrung she just doesnt listen to his actions and his imploring ---Please Zoya understand me and give me a clue as to how you feel? Even in the bathroom after the hug when she asks him to admit that the the engagement means something ...he does not deny it immediately--- he waits for her to read his eyes and then says Nahin because he cannot see the same feeling in her eyes ...
Zoya needs to grow up and accept an dacknowledge her feelings for Asad for him to go any further!!!
