Hello guys! This is Jazzy. I've never made a post before, but you might have seen an occasional comment by my here and there. Anyhoo, coming to the point.

Today, as I sat contemplating the greater mysteries of life (more specifically, my unhealthy obsession with Asad Ahmed Khan and, of course, KSG), a thought struck me. I've finally understood the reason for my obsession (my aha moment). Mr. Khan is the Indian telly version of Mr. Darcy.
So here I go...

In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.
~ Fitzwilliam Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)

1. His Pride & His Prejudice.
His pride and his prejudice against Zoya. While Mr. Darcy refused to look beyond his own elite class and consider the values of others worthy, our own AAK refuses (or at least, refused) to look beyond his own regressive, 17th century mindset. Admittedly, the unconditional love is present. But, similar to Mr. Darcy, Asad is unwilling to accept it because (according to AAK) Zoya just isn't the right one. Sure, sure Asad. We believe you. And we all know of Mr. Darcy's disastrous proposal (I love you even thought I totally shouldn't). Way to insult a girl. So my question is, Is Asad heading towards the same track? Because if he is, I sincerely hope that Zoya hits him over the head with a baseball bat.

2. Pemberly Deal
Need I mention that they're both filthy rich? That much is glaringly obvious.

3. Diamond in the Rough.
Harsh, rude, haughty from the outside. But you have to slowly chip away the exterior to get to the gooey, romantic center. & I salute Zoya for having done that.

4. Equality.
Okay, people may disagree with me on this, but I do not think Asad is a knight in a shining armor. Sure, he HAS done that multiple times (Akram fiasco, Mangalpur, etc). However, I am talking about that regressive mindset of the hero being superior to the heroine. What I personally love about Asad is that he views Zoya as his equal. He aided her on the search for her Abbu but only to be a support, just in case she ever needed it. I loved all the scenes where he inquired about her search. He sees her as her own person, which sadly is very rare on silver screen. Women are always portrayed as the damsel in distress, which inevitably makes the men superior.
*Sorry for the controversial gender discussion, guys. But you guys feel free to disagree.

5. The "Ardently" Deal
If anyone deserves the ardent lover title in modern fiction, it's Asad (attested to by today's episode). I can already imagine him telling Zoya that she has "bewitched him, body and soul". Wishful thinking, I know.

6. Perfect Imperfections
Why I love Darcy so much is that he realized that he was a little, to put it gently, cocky. But he changed. For her. And I see that happening for Asad. He has become open to others and I only this progress continuing in the future.

7. Tall, dark (well, not exactly.. but you get the point), and handsome
The ultimate recipe for perfection. It's always going to stand the test of time. Always.

So, that's all for my list. But the similarities are endless. Feel free to add anything.

Jazzy--- you have jazzed up the forum --- i have been saying from day1 that Asad has shades of Darcy in him ---am so glad with your analysis! The above lines of Darcy could so well be Asad 's today!

Thank you for commenting 😊. They both are men of principles, they both make grave mistakes when it comes to their lady loves, and they both redeem themselves. If I can't have Darcy, I'll becontent with my own Akdu Ahmed Khan. & what is most endearing is their social awkwardness and difficulty voicing their emotions. My sweet babies 😳

There are a myriad of reasons to love that book but the strong protagonist and the ever-so-lovable Mr. Darcy always make it to the top 😊 There could be an analysis written comparing Elizabeth to Zoya, too. Gul has struck gold with this show. It's a masterpiece. Thanks for commenting!

Mr. Darcy and Asad's characters do in fact run parallel, hats off to you for such an amazing comparison. I have always been an Austen girl at heart and my copy of Pride and Prejudice is falling apart at the seems. If the shows follows in the same direction, we have a long way to go. Zoya parallels Lizzie, and we have yet to see her love for Asad, and it may take a whole for her to come around and perhaps this current track will bring about that change. Now that I think of it, Ayaan could be Wickham in this story 😲 eeks.

Beatifully written post. I wrote something similar, but not half as good as you - http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3548715

I wish I could put across my thoughts as beautifully like you have, compared Asad's character to Mr. Darcy. I love Mr. Darcy. I wish it were for real, because then I could fall in love with him in an instant!

Many of us have asked, why is it that it always has to Dilshaad who has to give him a reality check abuot what he should do.

I have a take on that.

It is not that Asad is not aware of his feelings. It is not that he is in denial either. Many things he has done, specially after the Mangalpur incident are bleeding examples of how much he loves her. From the way he softly carassed her teary cheeks, to the way, he lent her his arm, to the way he was surprised that when she said "doosri baat" she did not mean what happeend between them, but Mariam's wedding… to the way how he keeps telling himself, main isse door hi rahoo to achha hai, she means nothing to me, and that though I feel an unkaha khinchaav to her, it better be unkaha, because we are not right for each other, are just all shouting that he loves her, but doesn't want to. Just like you say, I love you, even though I shouldn't.

Why does he not want to love her? Because in his mind, he has a set belief that they are not right for each other, and more so that with his broody self, and being Rashid's son, all hehas to offer her is hurt. He has always been in his cave, hid his heart behind walls, and he knows zoya wants to break it brick by brick, he just does not want to…

But then what happens, when something like what dilshaad did today happens? Well, this is garb. A faade. So tomorrow, he can fool the world (and Zoya, more importantly) that he did it because ***. He got her the employmennt letter because he wanted her to stay, but he said that he is merely reducing a reason for her to go, and left the decision up to her. He blurted the engagement decision in front of Dhurandhar out of his own desperation, but minutes after he back traks that he did it for her, because she wanted to stay here. He ran to the airport, because Dilshaad said, so. Little does he know that slowly everyone is only becoming more and moreaware of his intense feelings for Zoya, how his soul, heart are drenched in her love.

This really ties in with Asad's character. He loved Jam, but can give up the habit, because, baat pasand ki nahi usulloon ki hai. He believes that if he likes something but knows it is not good forh im, he can easily give it up. Little does he know that jam aur Zoya mein farq hai. Aadat aur Ishq mein bhi. After all, ishq pe zor nahi! J

He always wants a reason to help Zoya, because, then he can hide behind the walls he has built around himself, and push her out once more. If he admits, or stops her by his own accord, then, what will he do? No, he always needs a trigger, which is not a trigger but his crutches. .. to continue the faade he hides his pain and heart full of love behind.

How can , Asad, the lion hearted, who has always maintained what is right, now just give in to the whif of fragrant air, the breath of life, the waft offreshness that Zoya, a total opposite has brought in his life. How can the patthar dil, who has always been the support of his Ami, his sister, just melt like that? He can not! Well, atleast that is WHAT HE THINKS!

How can i not comment when a post mentions Mr.Darcy?😆 That was a wonderful post..I guess most of the angry young men on Indian Telly are more or less inspired by Darcy..While some shred the character into pieces in the name of inspiration, others partially succeed..The problem is Jane Austin is just so brilliant with words that its hard to replicate the magic of PnP and the character of Darcy..I made a similar post when Asad confessed his feelings to Zoya in the Bol na halke sequence..The fact that he mentioned how she was a misfit yet he couldn't resist the temptation reminded me so much of Darcy's epic proposal..Both were brutally honest and din resort to sugar coated words and flattery..Not the best way to confess your love yet extremely realistic and in character..The biggest difference of course is the fact that Darcy was a thorough gentleman but Asad crosses the line when he is angry and ends up behaving like a jerk😆 Am waiting for the day Asad realizes how his definition of perfect is totally screwed up and what he perceives as imperfect is what is perfect for him..
P.S.More than Darcy, am waiting for the day Indian Telly has a character like Lizzy..I cannot imagine any Indian soap heroine giving the dressing down which Lizzy gave to Darcy after the confession😆
P.P.S.My absolute favorite line in the confession is when Darcy says, 'Do you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your connections?"-Such brutal honesty and arrogance😆
