Great Fan of P&P
Mr Darcy, Lizzy ---Jane Austen are just classic.
I would like to see Karan as Mr Darcy in a hindi remake of P&P.
Now who would be a good Elizabeth Bennet?

i LOVED your analysis!!!! your post helped me put my finger EXACTLY on why the characteristics of AAK were so glaringly familiar, yet for some reason i wasn't able to give them a name... and voila! we have him as the indianized version of Mr. Darcy! no matter how cocky Darcy was, he was and always will be, one of my favorite charecters EVER, along with Heathcliff... don't ask me why Heathcliff, coz i was never able to explain that, myself... 😆
anyway, coming back to your post... i simply LOVED it!!! and you made me wanna go back n read P&P all over again!!! the passion and the love, along with the reluctance to face his feelings, all blend in so well with both Darcy and AAK... thank you for the post, dear! you made my day! 🤗

Mr. Darcy and Asad's characters do in fact run parallel, hats off to you for such an amazing comparison. I have always been an Austen girl at heart and my copy of Pride and Prejudice is falling apart at the seems. If the shows follows in the same direction, we have a long way to go. Zoya parallels Lizzie, and we have yet to see her love for Asad, and it may take a whole for her to come around and perhaps this current track will bring about that change. Now that I think of it, Ayaan could be Wickham in this story 😲 eeks.

Why, thank you! 😳 Pride & Prejudice has secured a special place in my heart too, and, of course, Mr. Darcy is my literary husband. Well, to be honest, I feel like Zoya IS Lizzie in a lot of aspects. I love both girls, but it is a fact that they're both sort of thick-headed when it comes to their Mr. Rights. For Lizzie, it was Darcy's ultimate profession of love was protecting her family's honor. As for AsYa, will it be his continuous support after she finds her Abbu? Only time will tell.

Yikes! I don't like that idea much. Ayaan and Wickham. But they both ARE inevitable thorns in beautiful love stories, so I do see where you are coming from. It is not so much that he is like Wickham's character. I think in the context of AsYa's story, his role could serve the same purpose. No chappals, but Zoya may like Ayaan's less emotionally challenged demeanor. Only Gul knows 😊

Thank you for commenting.

I wish I could put across my thoughts as beautifully like you have, compared Asad's character to Mr. Darcy. I love Mr. Darcy. I wish it were for real, because then I could fall in love with him in an instant!

Many of us have asked, why is it that it always has to Dilshaad who has to give him a reality check abuot what he should do.

I have a take on that.

It is not that Asad is not aware of his feelings. It is not that he is in denial either. Many things he has done, specially after the Mangalpur incident are bleeding examples of how much he loves her. From the way he softly carassed her teary cheeks, to the way, he lent her his arm, to the way he was surprised that when she said "doosri baat" she did not mean what happeend between them, but Mariam's wedding' to the way how he keeps telling himself, main isse door hi rahoo to achha hai, she means nothing to me, and that though I feel an unkaha khinchaav to her, it better be unkaha, because we are not right for each other, are just all shouting that he loves her, but doesn't want to. Just like you say, I love you, even though I shouldn't.

Why does he not want to love her? Because in his mind, he has a set belief that they are not right for each other, and more so that with his broody self, and being Rashid's son, all hehas to offer her is hurt. He has always been in his cave, hid his heart behind walls, and he knows zoya wants to break it brick by brick, he just does not want to'

But then what happens, when something like what dilshaad did today happens? Well, this is garb. A faade. So tomorrow, he can fool the world (and Zoya, more importantly) that he did it because ***. He got her the employmennt letter because he wanted her to stay, but he said that he is merely reducing a reason for her to go, and left the decision up to her. He blurted the engagement decision in front of Dhurandhar out of his own desperation, but minutes after he back traks that he did it for her, because she wanted to stay here. He ran to the airport, because Dilshaad said, so. Little does he know that slowly everyone is only becoming more and moreaware of his intense feelings for Zoya, how his soul, heart are drenched in her love.

This really ties in with Asad's character. He loved Jam, but can give up the habit, because, baat pasand ki nahi usulloon ki hai. He believes that if he likes something but knows it is not good forh im, he can easily give it up. Little does he know that jam aur Zoya mein farq hai. Aadat aur Ishq mein bhi. After all, ishq pe zor nahi! J

He always wants a reason to help Zoya, because, then he can hide behind the walls he has built around himself, and push her out once more. If he admits, or stops her by his own accord, then, what will he do? No, he always needs a trigger, which is not a trigger but his crutches. .. to continue the faade he hides his pain and heart full of love behind.

How can , Asad, the lion hearted, who has always maintained what is right, now just give in to the whif of fragrant air, the breath of life, the waft offreshness that Zoya, a total opposite has brought in his life. How can the patthar dil, who has always been the support of his Ami, his sister, just melt like that? He can not! Well, atleast that is WHAT HE THINKS!

You are a sweetheart! Such an insightful and beautifully written comment! 😃 Thank you.

Coming to your analysis, we see eye to eye. "Sab drama tha." - & I hate KSG. Both of these statements contain the same level of BS-ing, and Asad Miyaan is very much aware of that. Zoya was not enough so he has eye sex with her earring now, and still, "drama tha"? Bad joke.

I agree with what you said, but I would like to add that I think at this point, Asad is ready to take down the walls that he has built around himself. He wants a glimpse into Zoya's mind. He wants to know what she thinks. He wants to know whether the feeling his mutual. Now, if he wasn't the big Dhakkan Ahmed Khan, he would already know. Alas, that is not the case. Zoya, instead of just probing into his mind to see whether HE loves HER, should make her love for him more obvious. I am sort of hoping for a reversal of Mangalpur so she realizes that she also can't take him for granted.

Anyhow, thank you again for commenting! I would love to read more of your analysis on AsYa 😉

P.S.More than Darcy, am waiting for the day Indian Telly has a character like Lizzy..I cannot imagine any Indian soap heroine giving the dressing down which Lizzy gave to Darcy after the confession😆
P.P.S.My absolute favorite line in the confession is when Darcy says, 'Do you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your connections?"-Such brutal honesty and arrogance😆

The effects of Mr. Darcy 😆. Totally understandable, girl! More or less, yes (horribly twisted versions of Mr. Darcy, if I may add). Preach! The book has the right amount of humor paired with the right amount of drama. The character development is beyond competition. & the protagonists are strong characters, with endearing traits. The end result is a masterpiece that is P&P.

Spot on! I didn't think of the Bol Na Halke Halke confession. Now that I think of it, that confession WAS equivalent to Mr. Darcy's infamous proposal. And Asad's character development (including his increasing acceptance of Zoya) that followed afterwards also mirrors Mr. Darcy's development as a person. We are all partial, but Mr. Darcy, IMO, can also be an ass. The difference is how exactly they carry out being jerks. Mr. Darcy does it with his bluntness and accepting Lizzie while insulting her, while Asad... Well, as you pointed out, Asad also does it through harsh and cold truths. I guess Asad hasn't fully developed yet, but the layers ARE coming off and I'm loving the pace. He is still in his "first half of the book Darcy - mode". Akal kab thikane aaye, time will tell.

Gul has tried to make her protagonists like Lizzie, although I haven't really been a fan of her previous show (nor have I seen Geet). Given, they do start out with high morals and dignity overloaded. But the beauty of Lizzie's character was that she latched on to the dignity in front of Darcy, whereas most protagonists, in the process of going googly-eyed bechaaris, totally kick it aside. That being said, I have a lot of hopes from Zoya. She is different, and I don't see her taking crap from Mr. Khan for long. As long as she does her part by making her feelings for Asad a little more obvious (as she should), I'll be cheering her on as she gives Asad a run for his money.

That quote! Hahahahaha! Add it to the list of reasons why I love Mr. Darcy. The man doesn't hold back much, does he?

Thank you for commenting 😃

Nice post!
Mr. Darcy was such a compelling characterisation that it was inevitable that he'd 'inspire' legions of romantic heroes in books, films, TV, radio, etc. So far, interesting, but I'm waiting to see how this one turns out.

Hahaha, glad to be of assistance 😉. It's the result of a mind too preoccupied with thoughts of AsYa. He does have that effect on 99% of the female population, doesn't he? Like I said, it's the whole "ardently"/passionately in love factor!. And besides, he did change for his lady love. What more can you ask of a man?

Heathcliff, ahhh yes! He is something special, isn't he? Despite the commonly held belief that you can either love Darcy or Heathcliff because of their myriad of differences, I DO have a soft corner for Heathcliff in my heart, too (and not to mention that Tom Hardy looks smokin' in the movie). For Heathcliff, I know it's because of the passion his character stands for. Catherine is the only person he ever loved and he gave his 100% to that love. Such passion 😳. My heart breaks for the guy.

No no, YOU made MY day with your lovely comment. Thank you 🤗

Amen to that! Hmm, that is a good question. If we're talking bollywood, I think Katrina Kaif would be perfect in a Hindi version of P&P. She has the right amount of elegance for the role. 😊

I just love Pride and Prejudice!

Let's just hope that he gets his act together, like Mr. Darcy too before it's too late. Thank you for the comment 😃
