Lovely post Vic and I agree with a lot that you have said.
To the brown- I think that was probably the purpose of the scene. I think Gul consciously made the decision to make Zoe look like the outsider. It is important for Zoya to know who her father is and where she comes from...every child has that right however no matter how much she craves it she is not going to have the bond that Humzie and Gaffur have. Gaffur brought up Humeira. They have memories and a bond that every child has with their parent. Whether Gaffur accepts Zoe or not the fact remains fundamentally Zoe is a very different person. She has been brought up in a different environment and culturally too she is different from Gaffur and his ways (note when I say culture I am not talking about religion...I just mean that she was brought up in NY where the culture is different!).
What Zoya longs for she will never get from her father but from Asad she will...in fact she already does.
Points to note- I don't think Asad is mad at Zoe as much as he is resigned to the fact that she did something stupid. I think by now Asad expects this from her. He will definitely scream at her tomorrow tho...not in a mean way but more in a what was the necessity to interfere and go to that pagalkhana way.
Ayaan and Zoe's interaction- My god was I the only one who thought that Zoe was talking to Ayaan the way she would a child? 😆
