He was baffled.
He really couldn't explain himself.
He had decided that it was best for her that they parted.
Yet, when it came to it, he couldn't let her go!
He had convinced himself that he wouldn't intervene.
That he wouldn't cloud her decision in anyway.
His heart had begged, yet he had been in control.
If she was to stay, it had to be her own decision, made of her own free will.
For he could not guarantee happiness for her.
He wanted to save her from the pain of unrequited love- loving him would turn out to be another tragedy for her.
That was all he had wanted.
To keep away from her, to keep that smile on her face.
Yet, he had failed, despite his best intentions.
His heart had done a somersault when she declared she wouldn't be going.
Still, he had persisted, if she had to stay, it couldn't be on a whim.
So he had challenged her.
And then he was suddenly afraid.
What if she had to go, when she wanted to stay?
He couldn't bear to see those tears again.
It was clear that she wanted to stay back.
For her phoophi? For her tamatar? For ... ?...let it not be so...
So when it came to the toss, he had grabbed the coin to his surprise!
For her? For himself?
He did not know.
But he had gone weak- for her.
There was only one thing he knew.
That glee on her face! It was totally worth it!
And the peace that filled his heart now, knowing she was safe next door- it was pure heaven!
(The rest was up to Ms. Farooqui- for she was the one who claimed to know the answer to every question!😆)
But this was one question he wished she stopped asking.
He knew the answer, only too painfully well.
"One day you will ask me which is more important? My life or yours? I will say mine and you will walk away not knowing that you are my life."
Kahlil Gibran
For Zoya:
"The Reality of The Other Person Lies Not In What He Reveals To You, But What He Cannot Reveal To You.
Therefore, If You Would Understand Him, Listen Not To What He Says, But Rather To What He Does Not Say."
Kahlil Gibran
