Your mom reminds me exactly of my mom. She started watching the show way before I did (I knew KSG was going to be in a new show but I was os busy with school I didn't have the time to check). One day when I got home, there's Karan Singh Grover, looking amazing as every and I freaked out. The only thing she said to me was " Ohh, so this is him. I agree he's very good looking, but Zoya... Zoya is perfect."

She found Zoya perfect not only because she had this normalcy to her character (like you said, without the designer sarees and jewellery or the mini skirts with heels) but because she reminded of me. I don't look anything like Zoya but its the characteristics that she portrayed that made her think this. The fact that she's crazy but still restrained, the way she's friendly, and her shayari, or the way she's considered the Khan's her family. My mom said that she saw her own daughter in her, one of the main reasons she loved her, something that no other show has made her feel. This is exactly what my mami, and my chachi said as well. To invoke something so intimate in someone, that they consider you a version of there daughter, thats pretty awesome, and Surbhi does just that. 👏

On a side note, I think Surbhi does the romantic scenes perfectly. Yes, there not like Shilpa, JW, Sanaya, etc but I think she's so much more natural, like she really is in love, and she's scared of these new feelings but at the same time swayed by them. No offense to any of the people who love these other actresses, just my opinion. As well, she may not have been that great in the beginning of the show with these scenes, but I think she's gotten a lot better since the Teri Meri dance.

I desagree, i think Surbhi plays as they said her to play, I'm pretty sur that it's in her character to not be romantic !! It's too soon for her, directors want to show an Asad in love before Zoya !! The romantic zoya in love it's for later chicas ... when Asad look at Zo there is lov, passion, desire, romance in his eyes, and zoya just look at him and try to undestand what he feel, she's lost with her relation with him. just wait and watch for the romantic zoya in lov with Jahapana six packs !!

Exactly my point! The recent holi ladakpan ki episode's dance performance was a best example of her blend of passionate, intense and lovey dovey expressions! And her expressions of being in love totally go with the character Zoya.

Ohhh *claps*

Your mom's words are so wise. After reading your post, I quietly thought about your mother's point of view, and likewise, I agree with her. She is a much mature audience compared to us youngsters, who only crave for Mitwa moments.

& Yes, the points set out towards Zoya characters are very much wonderfully true.

Hats off to your mom's opinion! And I totally stand by her side on this!

This post is very debatable one though.
It has brought some positive discussion in the forum which I'm really impressed with! :)

You are right, Zoya is still not exactly in love unlike Asad.
Regarding her passionate and romantic expressions, Marjayya and Ishq hua dance explains it all!

Nice post, agree with you mom on Zoya, she is written very carefully with details that one can easily relate to. Gul was NRI and so much resembles Zoya, I believe sometimes she crafted this character so beautifully as somewhere its her in Zoya, so can help write her so convincingly. And Surbhi is doing brilliant job in portraying, to look beautiful she doesnt need to show her skin, wear jewelery or too much makeup like any normal girl. She hardly does it actually..
About Karan, he is brilliant. His role is restricted here, but he shines even in that. He uses his eyes and facial muscle very well. About chemistry, I feel AsYa are the best I have ever seen. When they come together in one screen within few feet, you can feel butterflies. Their eyes speaks volumes and those soft looks in Mitwas, they just look perfect together.

It's just that we are used to the heroines who get all shy with heavy breathing and all when the hero just touches them, that's why we are not able to accept a natural performance, who in reality gets all excessive shy and breathes so heavy when the guy you love gets closer to you? If you watch bolna halke dance or today's gulal applying scene, it comes out so natural, she has smile blended with slight shyness and the stare blended with admiration towards the man she loves! I totally agree that in the initial mitwa scenes Surbhi was not great but now it has totally changed and I really it! And yeah! DD is awesome in her romantic expressions in MB, but Geeth was the same old all shy shy, heavy breathing kind.

Agree with you bhvnahm.. You said exactly what I feel ..I like Surbhi in romantic scenes.. She is natural. I am kinda bored with those heavy breathing, shy female characters because can never relate to them.. And also at this stage, Zoya is not in love exactly. She is feeling some weird feelings and somewhat confused about it which is exactly happens in real life. And I can see that in Surbhi's eyes. This is was I called chemistry. Bol na Halke Halke was also very different than any other rain sequence. And I loved it..

Nice post - I am not an young person either - but I am hooked to this show.

And my main initial reason is zoya too. Very unlike the rest of the lot, simple, elegant dressing sense and beautiful. Not to mention the comic relief. And surbhi is a fab actor - never thought i will like a punjabi actress so much. Her romantic side also comes as a breath of fresh air.

As i watched more, i am falling in love with asad's character as well. He is very convincing too, in playing asad. Yes, so many people cannot relate to a young successful man being that serious all the time. But that is his character (I guess many cannot relate, because, it is hard to find such men in reality).
