Chapter 8
Mustering up her courage, Zoya decided to face what was to come and not to give up. She was a brave girl after all.. She thought..
As she turned around and looked into the stranger's eyes, she could make out that the person was a woman. It was not a ghost. Oh Thank GOD!
The woman's eyes looked familiar to her. She had seen those very eyes before. Due to the darkness which enveloped them, she couldn't see her face properly.
In a shaky voice, Zoya asked: "Hey.. who are you? Do I know you?"
No answer.
"Hey!? Can you help me please? I'm lost! And.. I..I need to get out of this place.. umm..", Zoya said, waving a hand in front of her creepy eyes which were staring at her without blinking even once.
Chills ran down her spine as she swallowed hard. The eerie silence of the night started to make her feel uneasy.
Zoya quickly turned around and started to walk aimlessly, hoping to find some way, maybe some random path which could lead her to the foot of the mountain and back home.
As she made one step, someone from behind started to laugh. It was that woman.. She. . . . was . . . . . laughing. . . .
Zoya couldn't believe her ears. Was she hearing right?
As evil laughter echoed around her, Zoya stood still, facing Tanveer!
"Tanveer!?", Zoya cried out her name and innocently rushed to her, throwing her arms around her.
"Allah Miyan, Thank you sooo much! Finally, an angel has come to my rescue in the form of Tanveer. Thank you!" Zoya cheerfully said, looking at the sky.
Tanveer, who was all the while irritated by Zoya's actions, gave a disgusted look which went unnoticed by Zoya.
Breaking away from the hug, Zoya asked: "Hey by the way, what were you doing on this mountain so late at night?..Okay..forget that and tell me,Tanveer, why were you staring at me like that? Your eyes were looking so scary. And..and.. why didn't you reply to my calls? I started to think there was a ghost in front of me. Uff! Tum bhi na Tanveer! You could have atleast said my name.."
"Tanveer...? Why aren't you saying anything?.. Hey.. by the way, I need to talk to you about something.. umm..it's about your painful days spent in Asad's house. I.. um..wanted to reveal something very important to you.. but I guess it would be better if we get home first. Everyone must be worried and wondering where we are at this late hour of the night.
So, let's go?"
Instead of replying to Zoya, Tanveer turned her back to her and walked away like nothing happened. She was looking strange. Her behaviour was weird and unusual.
"What happened to Tanveer? She's behaving so strangely. Let me talk to her.", Zoya thought to herself as she took a step towards Tanveer.
Gently putting a hand on her shoulder, Zoya softly asked: "Are you okay Tanveer? What's wrong with you? Why aren't you talking to me? Did I do something wrong?.."
Realising what she said, Zoya added guiltily: "I mean.. ya.. I admit it.. I did do something wrong.. not once.. but several times and trust me, Tanveer, I'm really sorry for what you had to go through because of me.. Please forgive me if possible.. I know that you're kind hearted and will forgive me.. Please.. I want to hear it from your mouth.. tell me that you have forgiven me..."
Seeing no response from her side, Zoya gave up on her questions and pleas.
She finally decided to go her way, leaving behind Tanveer as the latter didn't seem interested in helping her get out of that place.
Before leaving, Zoya gave Tanveer's back one last look and said:
" I'm going Tanveer.. I'm sorry.. I don't intend to leave you alone here but you neither seem interested in helping me nor to listen to my pleas. Allah Hafiz."
Blinded by the darkness, Zoya started to descend the mountain gingerly.
Strangely, while doing so, she had the feeling that she was being followed as the pebbles' sound which were emanating from behind her after each step was constant.
As she stepped forward, someone behind her was doing the same.
"I think it's Tanveer. She must have made up her mind and must be following me. That's good.", Zoya thought to herself, smiling widely, feeling proud of herself for her achievement.
[The success of being able to make Tanveer accompany her].
Afraid that Tanveer might go away if she comes to know that Zoya was aware of her presence, Zoya didn't turn to look at her and continued her way as if nothing happened.
Some minutes went by, but still no sign of a living soul around. The place was still as dark as before. Nothing changed except the fact that it was getting colder than before. Zoya crossed her arms, regretting her decision of wearing a short dress.
"It's getting really cold here! Woah!", she thought, rubbing her arms.
As she walked on and on, she realised that the mountain was getting pretty steep and it was almost impossible for her to walk it down without losing balance.
Just when she was about to step backward in order to move away from the dangerous edge, she felt someone's hand push her with might. Losing balance, she fell on the rocky mountain and started to roll down it. The course ended with her head hitting hard on a rock. Blood started oozing from her forehead and she fainted some minutes later...
Not a really long one. [I'm so lazy, you know]😛
