It's All About Expectations- Epi Feb 27
Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed."
? Alexander Pope
We have all heard that if one lowers one's expectations, one would never be disappointed in life. Unfortunately, all human beings have expectations from themselves and from others. Most of our expectations are a result of our attachments. Only a spiritually supreme person can stay detached and have no expectations.
Today's episode, for me, was all about human beings and their expectations.
Zoya: Is still feeling the pinch from Asad's cold behavior. I would too, if I were in her place. The simple reason is expectation. Zoya is much attached to Asad, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Because of this bond with him, she has certain expectations from him. She expects him to care for her, listen to her and help her whenever she has a problem. That's why she poured her heart out to him, something she has never done before. It was very hard for her to open up her inner most feelings to anyone. She was probably not expecting a hug from Asad, but empathy and a shoulder to cry on. Instead, he walked away and ever since has been acting aloof and detached (typical Asad style) Even today, when his intention to help her was genuine, she was disappointed because he didn't live up to her expectations. Perhaps, she expected him to apologize or acknowledge her pain. Instead, he appeared arrogant and matter-of-fact. She just wanted him to say' Zoya…I care about you…don't worry….I will help you." Unfortunately, he didn't say any of this. That's how we all are. When someone doesn't say what we expect them to, we get disappointed and so was Zoya. In her disappointment, she threw her typical tantrum at him, which didn't go down too well with Mr.Akdu. Even his mild suggestion to change into traditional clothes became a big issue for her. If he had met her expectations, I am sure, she would have complied. After all, he knows Bhopal crowd better than she does. She did that in Mangalpur, right?
Asad: If there is one expectation Asad has always had, that's Ayan's unconditional devotion to him. Since their argument two days ago, Asad has been restless to reach Ayaan. Why? Because he can't see Ayaan upset with him. Ayaan has always placed Asad on a pedestal and the one time, Ayaan has an opinion of his own, Asad is trying his best to appease his brother. He even gave the all-important task of finding Zoya's father to Ayaan. Ayaan, the irresponsible boy, who couldn't buy gifts for his sister's engagement, has been entrusted to help Zoya in her near impossible venture. Asad, what were you thinking? You know your brother better. Besides pleading to Asad, Ayaan hasn't done anything to get his father out of jail. I am disappointed at Asad's judgment today. I am sure he is going to regret or get an ear full from Zoya (hope she does.)
The women at the function: These so called traditional women, who have preconceived ideas about tehzeeb and culture, were totally out of line in expecting Dilshaad's guest to conform to their way of dressing. Its expectations like these that create issues in society. Loved Dilshaad in the way she defended 'meri Zoya.'
Razia: She expects the whole world to revolve around her games. That's why, an overconfident Razia, walked into Dilshaad's house- someone she despises to the core. She expects that she will win every evil game she plays. She even abused a little girl! Thank God, she couldn't get the doll today. Hope these expectations of emerging victorious every time will be the downfall of this cunning character.
Dilshaad: I have always expected Dilshaad to do the right thing. Perhaps, that's why I was disappointed by the last scene. She has put Zoya in a precarious situation. Just because Zoya is indebted to her, does that mean, she can force her to lie? Does she not know Asad's temper? Hasn't she seen how ruthless he can be with Zoya? Why does she want Zoya to lie? I guess love is blind and so is Dilshaad. In her efforts to save Rashid, she has crossed the threshold of honesty and truth. Poor Zoya, she is in a bind now. Caught between her phoophi, who has always defended her, and the wrath of Asad, who can give her both physical and emotional pain. Which one will she choose? Knowing Zoya, she will never hurt her phoophi, especially after Dilshaad stood up for her at the function.
No one is perfect….and all characters showed their vulnerabilities today. That's how we humans are.
