Shaz, I agree that Asad was a complete jerk today. In fact his words were more toxic than his thappad. The thappad was an act of impulse but his words were intentional and were really hurtful especially his reference to her being an orphan.

I agree in real life this would be unacceptable and no one would want a lover like asad but one has to look at this as a work of fiction where they want us to believe that people do change, love changes them. Seeing a gray character change to a romantic hero is everyone's dream. So, we should all try to differentiate real life from reel life.

This is a fantasy...like Beauty and the Beast. Dil par mat lo yaar.

The slap was intentional and whether it was an act of impulse it was done to hurt Zoya and he didn't care about it either. It does not matter if this is fiction or real life; the show sends a dangerous message. When you have an actor that is hot and sexy in the role playing a man who slaps a girl, man handles her and insults her, it legitimizes the abuse to the young girl. And then to make it all romantic - have you seen what QH Facebook page is promoting - they are making it a romantic event tomorrow when Asad will be nice to Zoya. (Bangs head against wall).

Whether this is real life or a show, it is the message that is sent that is very dangerous and should not be brushed aside. And a lot of young girls are not going to be able to know this is a show.

This is not about us taking it to heart; we are beyond that.

None of us in our state of mind are going to enjoy this show KNOWING that this is not right. I can't just brainwash myself into ignoring what I saw - like it never happened. How stupid do people think we are. None of us are thrilled with the CVs for ruining it either. And please spare me,"you can only let them do that if you want too" speech.
First of all Sangeetha, thanks for even dropping by,appreciate the fact that you've atleast tried to make your point in a civil manner unike some but dil pe kaise na lu yaar?
I work with women who have suffered terribly and have been scarred mentally and physically and trust me seeing them up close and personal is a very heart wrenching experience for me.Me being a woman cannot see injustice being served on other fellow woman. It makes me highly emotional,I need to take a stand and my job is to see that they get justice.
I know this is reel life and not real, delusional has not taken over me like some on, but like Laila has pointed out, they are sending out a dangerous msssge now especially to young girls who first of all are bowled over by the male leads physique and looks, are fantasising over him day and night. These girls will be going into relationshipa, with this in their heads that it is sexy, cool, passionat and romantic to have a boyfriend like that will treat them like that as they are seeing this as a fanatsy which most will be getting a turn on and thrill from. They are not going to be able to distinguish between right and wrong as in their subconscious minds this is what love is about.
I did give Asad the benefit of the doubt the first time round when he held Zoya by the neck, but what did they go and do after that? The violent slap and then this physical, verbal abuse and then the death threat...coem on yaar...this is just too much and my comscience wont let me just sit back and watch,I have to have my voiice be heard and to do that I am not resorting to any verbal abuse,we are having a serious civil disscussion on a very serious matter.I just hope you can respect that and I think you will!

Shaz, I know where you are coming from. I have seen and worked with enough abused people in my life. I also agree that in real life once an abuser is always an abuser. But if you look at the way these ph write their stories, there are a lot of inconsistencies in the way they characterize people. Asad was a perfect gentleman a few episodes ago but last 2-3 episodes he has turned into a beast. A few episodes down the line he will be mr perfect again. That's why I don't take this to heart. He is not a real character. What he did in mangalpur was god like but what he is doing now is abusive. I would take this as a piece of fiction where they are trying to tell a different kind of love story...where a totally flawed character will change with love. It's NOT REAL. Perhaps they should put a disclaimer at the beginning of the show.

And that is so dangerous all these inconsistencies. I think we all know this is a work of fiction but like I said, it sends a really dangerous message and it does not leave us with room for entertainment when we know this guy has slapped a girl - how can we call the scenes with them in the future romantic - they all become cringe worthy. We know this is fiction but it still sends the wrong message.

Sangeetha,I am not deluded that I dnt know the difference between reel and real.My point is that youngster's especially...tend to imitate what is shown in these shows as they deem it to be cool and happening.I didn't have a problem with Asad's charcater untill they showed this violent side to him.I have always been very fascinated with his character as he is a very complex character to work out as he has all these intricate layers to him, hence making hin an intriguing character for me but like you've said yourself they have not been very consistent in his initial character sketch. He was portrayed to be the perfect gentleman, who respects women as most inportantly having a mother like Dilshad who faced many hardships in life bringing them up single handedly all due to his father abondoning them...so for me atleast it was expected to, that Asad would go to show this side to him in where he repects woman regardless of their background as he has been invibed with all these sentiments in him by his wonderful mother's upbringing at the very least but it is only them, the maker's, who are out to cause all mass destruction on with his character.
They do have a disclaimer at the beginning that all character's and incidents shown are all fictional and no resemblance should be made to real life...but come on...what they show does bear resemblance to real life...so why the contradiction?

The effect of media on socio-cultural attitudes is well-documented...we should all know this by now!

I agree shaz - They've done a really poor job with Asad's characterization. With a mother like Dilshaad, a single woman who raised 2 children, who is not a pushover, who knows her mind...
shouldn't Asad be a feminist?! And even if he's not a feminist, his regressive attitudes (like from the 15th century) are a little hard to swallow...

hi bheegi...we all know that he isn't real...but please explain me something how long are we going to hide behind the camera and try to justify ourselves that it is alright to show aggression and violence towards a woman or a man for that matter in the name of entertainment. We are not asking for a perfect Asad...all we are asking for is a flawed human being who has the decency to treat a fellow human being with respect.

@NarangiWhere's the wall...let me bang my head against it!...lol...This is what I am trying to explain but people just aint getting it and here I am being made to be made out to be deluded and not know the difference between real and reel...all this is giving out the wrong mssge!Exactly Narangi! They have done a very poor job of Asad's characterisation that it's completely in ruination now...it's not Asad that I am bashing but what the maker's are doing to destroy the charcater that once had the initial sketch of potentially being a perfect gentleman...slightly rough around the edges but one who respected women's sentiments atleast! No one is asking for a perfct Asad as everyone has flaws but a little respect and sensitivity especially from the ,ale lead character, goes along way!

EXCELLENT post. You said it all.

Extremely sad that people don't realize it is fiction and just to support their favorite actors, they will justify certain characters no matter what.

I asked this recently in another forum that why do our Indian soaps love to degrade and abuse womanhood and like to term it as a woman's fight against injustice?

It is such a disturbing trend in Indian Telly shows.

Did I hear the words "Redemption track"?? I am sorry to say but with my experience with the previous famous 4 Lions show that I watched, I am not expecting any miracles here!!

In the previous show as well, Ms Gul had a angry young man who was pushing the heroine around! He misunderstood her and blackmailed her into marriage! We were promised a strong redemption track where the hero was going to show his passion for the heroine and suffer internally for what he put her through! He was going to show his genuine regret etc!

But things sort went off track, and he ended up giving the heroine a 5 to 10 minute apology!! Yes his love for her was evident, and he remarried her with all the rituals this time! But, we didn't get the "Redemption track" that was much hyped and promised to us! This was the only reason why we all tolerated some of the abuse he meated out to the heroine! But in the end we all felt cheated!

So if QH is going down the same path, then I will be highly disappointed again! I really hope they learn from their previous mistakes and not repeat them! IF they are showing the hero get violent or abusive, then they better show some seriouse remorse! Make it worth the audience while for enduring the mental torture in the first place!

I agree with all of you about one thing: Asad was a total jerk today nd yes, I hate him for that. Two weeks ago, we all loved him for the Mangalpur heroics.

In two weeks, he will be a tormented soul when he has fallen hard for Zoya but he can't marry her ( for whatever reason).

What I am trying to say here is that people don't change that easily real life. In real life, we don't have so many misundstandings between two people, in real life an independent woman like zoya doesn't take crap from chauvinistic men like Asad. Zoya can fight goons anywhere but why does she become so meek in front of asad? Isn't that inconsistent with here character?

The trps of this show are definitely going to be high this week as they have succeeded in doing what they wanted to do- create controversy, create drama and create division of opinions.

Yes, media should be responsible but unfortunately shows like satyamevjayate don't garner as much trps as shows with drama and sensation do. Till the audience becomes united and shuns subjects that promote negativity, this ain't going to change. Let me ask you girls- are you going to stop watching QH after today? I rest my case here.
