Chapter 19

Dilshad entered Zoya's room to find Asad in the same position he had been in when they left him in the room.

She almost teared up at the sight. Asad was kneeling on the floor, well on a cushion to be exact, and held onto her hand as he slept, his head resting on her bed.

Zeenat came up behind her and was about to ask her if Zoya had woken up as yet but she too became emotional at the scene in front of her.

Bechari Zoya, she was so shocked and overwhelmed to her about Asad loving her and their wedding that she fainted. Ya allah! Dilshad Bi now it's your turn to deal with her madness'

I don't mind. I don't mind at all' she smiled and both left the room.

The sound of the door closing made Zoya stir in her sleep and she turned on her side, slowly opening her eyes.

A dreamy smile appeared on her face as she saw him, his head resting on the bed, just cm away from her. One of her hands was securely held in his and she blushed at the thought and sight of it. She looked around and saw how bright and sunny it was, and realization dawned on her. The events of the night before ran through her mind and she peered at him, with wonder in her eyes. Did he really...? The childish side of her mind jumped up and down , she wanted to squeal and shout. But the other part couldn't believe it. It contemplated deeply. It felt like a dream.

Asad Ahmed Khan loves me! Well he hadn't directly told me those words' I love you' but he said YES' so he did. Didn't he?!!!!!!

She was about to move her hand to clasp over her mouth so she could stop herself from screaming as she momentarily forgot their hands were linked. It reminded her of when they had returned from Mangalpur and they thought they were still handcuffed. She shook off that memory and thought of now.

What was going to happen now. Our nikaah? But... it seems so fast. And how would Asad be now? He said he loves me but...not exactly to me. Maybe it could have just been to keep me here in Bhopal, in fact that was the whole plan in the first place. But why now it feels different. This plan changed for the good. I want to marry him. I really want to. I'm not sure if I love him, I think I do but I surely really like him. I don't know if it's love of not but when he's with me I feel like everything's right. Isn't it love then? I see the way he looks at me, teases me, cares for me. The way if something bad happens to me he would do anything to make it better.I have seen the way he changed for me, the way he is still chainging. What more do I want. That kiss. It wasn't much it, it wasn't long but it said everything. Ugh this man really gets under my skin Oh my god!

She reached her free hand out and let it wander in his head full of soft silky hair. She stroked and ran her fingers to it, wallowing in this feeling of pure bliss. Waking up to seeing him right next to her was simply heartwarming.

I wish I could do this every morning. I wish I could see him every morning, the first thing I set my eyes on before my day begins' she said softly to herself. After saying those words, her eyes changed from their drunk on love' look, and turned to something more mature, the tinkle in her eyes became stronger. She knew . The fact that she wished she could do that and see him as soon as she opened her eyes, made her know.

Thank you Phupi and Zeenat Appi for making me realize this. And my cunning Jeeju! I guess I really do love Jahanpana Six Packs!

She continued brushing her fingers through his hair and interwined their fingers. This movement disturbed Asad's slumber and he woke up and met her loving gaze.

Zoya' he whispered.

In return, he got a radiant smile.

How are you feeling?'

Great you?'

Thank God you're okay. Yeah I'm good too. You're so dramatic, just for the record.'

hmm' was all she said, and she continued caressing his hair. This action soothed him, the feeling was magical. He looked down and saw their linked hands and looked back at her.

What now?' he asked.

What do you mean?'

The plan?'

What plan?' to this reply, he smiled.

Your Mission SAAJ?'

Mission completed!'

You know, if you mission was to truly get married to me, you could have just said so, you didn't need to make up all this rubbish about SAAJ and not wanting to leave Bhopal' he teased.

Allah miyan! What's wrong with you' she accused and let go of his hair.

That was just so I could stay here! I didn't want to get married to you' she retorted loudly.

Pouting her lips she looked up to him, wondering why he didn't argue back.

She realized she had hurt him with her words as his face had fallen, his previous morning peacefulness had vanished. His eyes looked as though he just received a hard blow to his heart. She understood what he must have thought and how he would have felt.

Before she could say anything to correct her error, Dilshad barged in with the others.

I knew I heard a voice .Zoya beta, how are you feeling?'

Better phuphi. I'm absolutely fine.'

Of course you must be fine, now your and Bhaijan's nikaah is decided' Najma teased.

NAJMAA!' Zoya yelled. The elders laughed, and made eye signals to Asad who stood up, and released their hands. He was upset but they took it he was being shy and Akdu again.

Zoya, you know you're so lucky you have Asad! Aap jante hai kal raat he wouldn't leave your side. We all told him to go rest, and that either me or Dilshad Bi would stay with you until you regain consciousness, but he was so stubborn' Zeenat said proudly.

Haan Zoya, he said would stay here till you wake up.' Anwar added.

How sweeett' Najma chirped.

Asad started feeling uncomfortable and walked out.

Asad..' Zoya called out but she was too late.

Don't worry beta, he's probably just shy' Dilshad reassured.

The rest of the morning was filled with teases and Najma wouldn't leave her alone, so she couldn't go check on Asad.

Breakfast was a jovial affair. Everyone was teasing the couple. Zoya enjoyed it but was constantly looking at Asad. Asad, was confused. He thought she wanted him. He thought she wanted to be with him. He believed it, the way she was around him it was obvious! But why did she say that?

I didn't want to get married to you!'

Those words ringed in his ears continuously and he felt he lost his appetite. He politely excused himself. The others didn't realize but Zoya picked up on his withdrawal on the excitement of their nikaah.

She got up to follow him but saw him get into his car and head off to work.

Allah miyan, Zoya what have you done!' she cursed herself.

Later that day, Dilshad and the others had her occupied. From looking at bridal wear to wedding invitations, Zoya had no time to think. Maulvi Sab fixed the date of their nikaah, which was in one month's time. Dilshad wanted them to get married very soon.

Zoya was going crazy over the wedding outifts. She imagined herself getting married to him. What should she wear? What about the rituals before their nikaah? She felt herself getting more and more enthusiastic. She was getting married!!

This train of thought brought her back to Asad. He was still upset. Maybe she should call him. After much protest from Najma, she was finally able to break away from them for a while and dialed Asad's number. She laughed as she saw his name come up as Jahanpana Six Packs.

*tring tring*

Asad saw her number and sighed. He didn't know how to face her. He answered the call none the less. Hello?'

Hey'

Ji kahiye Zoya. Kya baat hai?'

Vo.. kuch nahi.. actually I wanted to talk to you about this morning' she said, hoping to get to the bottom of it, even though she didn't know how to say it or what to say.

Asad frowned at this. Haan actually me too. Do one thing. I'll be coming home early, then we can talk okay. I have a meeting now okay so khuda haffiz'

Allah haffiz'

He hung up, his heart in knots.

Looks like she really didn't want to get married and that's what she wants to talk about. Later I'll deal with this. He felt his heart slowly breaking.

She hung up the phone and sighed.

Looks like he's still mad at me. He didn't even give me a chance to rectify what I said. Well done Zoya, why did you even say that this morning? Ugh spoiled everything! Poor Asad. I'll have to make it up to him. Wonder what he's probably thinking right now in that big hard head!'

HMMM that's what you wanted to do. Talk to Asad Bhaijan! It's only been a few hours and you're already missing him, Zoya bhabhi? ' Najma winked.

Tamatar!' she slightly scolded. This is not time for jokes. I think I messed up and Asad is upset with me'

Really? But what did you do?'

I told him I didn't want to get married to him'

Kyaaa!? Why would you do that? You do want to get married to him right?' Najma asked just to reassure herself.

Of course I want to marry him Tamatar! I love him! Ugh tum bhi na' she blurted out, completely appalled at her question. Dilshad walked in to hear her.

Zoya blushed as she realized what she said and saw Dilshad and Najma giggle.

Actually... I don't know why I told him that. This morning we... were talking and uhh I accidently told him that' she said trying to cover up for their talks about their plan. Dilshad was confused and Najma explained.

But I thought you were fine? Since when you still fight? Even for breakfast yesterday we could see you guys were in love, not to mention that night' Dilshad teased, wanting to get Zoya to admit to their schemes.

Actually Phupi, we didn't mean to hurt you, but Asad and I planned it all so I wouldn't have to leave but through it I knew I had feelings for him, and now I realized I love him and I really want to get married to him. He too, I know he loves me. I can see it in his eyes.But you know na, how we always fight over stupid things and this morning i... told him that and I think he's still upset and I haven't got a chance to explain to him that I didn't mean it'

Hmm it's okay. Actually, Zoya, your Appi and Jeeju planned it all! We sprang that one on you about you having to return to New York and marry someone else just to see how you and Asad would react, and to give you a push because believe me, from a long time we knew you two were in love. You guys just took a while to realize it. And now, it's your job to pacify him. Such words would have a quiet heavy impact on him. You taught him to be different and to love but after those words he probably feels rejected after following his heart for the first time."

KYA! Hmph this was all your plan! Allah miyan!' Zoya looked angry and Dilshad got worried.

You guys are genius!' she said with a smile and Dilshad was relieved.

Like really, if you didn't do that we would have never realized. Anyways I need to think of how to pacify him and explain. And he's coming home early too so I need to think extra fast.'

Hmm Asad is very simple. I think once you tell him he will be okay. He is very emotional and sensitive so careful with your words Zoya beta. And I take it you two haven't said those three word to each other yet. So, forget Mission SAAJ, and focus on Mission PA - Pacify Asad!'

HAWWW Phupi you know even this!'

Zoya, your mouth is very big you know!' Dilshad and Najma laughed.

I have an idea, Ammi, let's go out na, so we could give Bhaijan and Zoya some time alone.'

Very good Najma! Okay we'll go out to the mall okay. Tell Asad we have gone for preparations for the wedding okay. And really we'll be checking stuff and placing orders for all the rituals and the nikaah ceremony. We'll have dinner out too. Zoya if you don't want to make something, order na okay cause Asad would be hungry. Waise bhi I made lunch but still, if you wish. Good luck my child!' Dilshad hugged Zoya and kissed her forehead. Najma gave her a thumbs up. Then the four gathered and left the house all to Zoya.. and well Asad who would return at 4:30 pm.

This meant Zoya had 4 hours. First things first she thought. I need something pretty to wear!

So Zoya went out to the market and selected a sari to wear for this special evening.

After much consideration she chose a red and black sari. She grinned as she thought of what Asad's reaction might me like upon seeing her in a sari. She got home quickly and set up the backyard.

Hmm doesn't the guy usually do this? But then again when have Asad and I shared a normal relationship! And besides I made the mistake so I have to fix it right Zoya? Ya Allah I hope the man likes this surprise and he understands that I didn't mean that this morning. I know he loves me but I need to hear him say it. Please let everything go well with us this evening

Dusting her hands, she looked around, proud of herself. A picnic blanket was set up in the gazebo, and white curtains steamed down the sides of it. And there were flowers and candles everywhere. Just good enough for a last minute plan. She had two and a half hours to cook and get dressed.

She rushed into the kitchen, and bit her nails off trying to think of what to make. Finally she decided on paneer and puris, and this time she wouldn't give him a chance to make fun of her. She made samosas too, so they could snack on that outside, and have their meal inside.

Time was crawling up on her, and the puris were not done.

She decided to forget about it and go to change as she only had 30 minutes. After her bath, she tried to wear the sari as quickly as possible. She didn't even know when Asad came home. In her room she was struggling with trying to tie the dori on the back of her blouse.

Asad looked around, the house seemed vacant. One of their cars was missing so he took it they all went out. He got even more devastated because he thought Zoya went out too, after knowing they were supposed to talk. His eyes were glistening as he passed her room, about to enter his. He stopped as he heard someone mumbling. His heart lightened as he realized it was Zoya. Without thinking, he opened the door which was open, and entered. The sight that met his eyes had him stuck in a daydream as he admired her. She turned around and got lost in him too. Both stood in an intense eye-lock.
