It's a sad thing... I wish Asad hadn't either. Regarding the car, we saw how Rashid was against gifting it, but Razia went ahead and bought it to further her own agenda.

Yes, it's reality in most of India but things are changing. Dowry is not a part of my culture, and I'm glad. But we're probably a tiny minority that doesn't believe or propagate this social evil.

Show must portray it but they should also highlight how people are changing or fighting back.

And there are shows on telly where they're sending that message.

A show cannot show change without first showing the problem. Viewers should be fully expecting that Haseena will not stop at the house and Nikhat will be unhappy and that Asad will reflect back on his actions noting that he made a mistake. I, for one, am happy despite believing that Asad has indeed encouraged the dowry system because I feel that CVs have a purpose to it. The idea is to show change over time and not awesomeness from day 1. A person can't improve when he's perfect. Viewers will appreciate change because change makes them think. If they are presented with a steady state of perfection, they will accept it as it is without thinking over it, without feeling a range and change of emotions over it.

An analogy: parents get more excited when the not-so-bright kid shows improvement than when the smart kid gets another 100 on his/her test. They take the smart ones smartness for granted.
