Actually that isn't right. India doesn't have dual citizenship. So, right now she is a naturalized American not Indian. However she can apply for an Overseas Citizens of India card (OCI) or a Persons of Indian Origin card (PIO).

Yeah, she has to have a PIO, an OCI, or a visa which is not hard to get. She could just apply for another visa. It's better and easier than getting married! It's easy to get an Indian visa if you're an American citizen.

most prolly she or her relatives had applied for citizenship in US so now they are American citizens and would need visiting visas to come to India

After you've loved abroad for a certain amount of years you can apply for that country's passport which makes you a citizen of that country

Interesting thoughts, everyone! I was just curious because I myself am an American Citizen (I was born here though, so it's different from Zoya) and I know it's a pretty complicated process. For her to be a US Citizen she would have needed a sponsor- which I'm guessing her Appi and Jiju did for her? And it would have taken a long time, too- one of my friends moved here when he was five and didn't become a citizen until he was 19.

She's definitely not an OCI (I am one) because if you have an OCI card you don't ever need a visa to enter India again, the card is enough.

See can easily get a PIO card and come to India whenever she likes. If they are going to use this to justify marriage, it's extremely silly.

Here m giving u a clear explaination...

No dear, she is of Indian origin, means, either she/ her parents/ and grand parents, are born in India, they r called Indian origin... And origination is NOT the basis to stay in India...

For living in India, one has to be a resident n citizen of India... An ordinary resident... And to become a resident, one has to live in India for atleast 6 months a year... And for citizenship, one has to apply for it... Its a rule in India, one cannot have dual citizenship... Hence, one has to surrender his/her previous citizenship to be an Indian citizen...

So for Zoya, she is only an Indian origin n neither resident, coz she has been visiting here after a very long time... N neither is she a citizen, coz she has to surrender her American citizenship...

Since she has none, she needs Visa to stay here... Becoz her visa is getting expired, not able to get renewed, thus she has to leave India, n, within the specific time limit...

I hope, I have made it clear, n have not further confused u all...
