The show is great...didn't know ksg before and thought he was another beef cake but an floored by his talent. 😆
What bothers me on the show is that it is acceptable by the family that insulting the girl and her family is okay. No one is thinking that if they are like this now then what happens later after the marriage when the girls is completely under their control?

The ingrained bias against darker skin tone runs very deep in our society

I cant see any end to this, if anything the stress on fairness is increasing day by day ... what with tens of new fairness products being marketed every year ! And I was thinking that with education and exposure, people will realise how silly this obsession about skin color is !! 😔

Unfortunately ... cant see how this will stop ...

In fact I have a great grouse against stars advertising for fairness creams ... The dark skinned ppl already reeling under color bias end up with a complex. And I cant stand the ads which show ppl achieving something just becos they used a fairness cream ...

Hi Usha. ...wonderful to see you here. Hope you are okay.

The entertainment industry seems to be the worse when it comes to perpetuating this problem. All the people in front of the camera are so anemic that there is no colour on their skin. When they r dark they put too much makeup on them to make them seem lighter. As @desigirl gives an example above.

There is one show currently on TV (something about sisters relationship) one of the girls is slightly darker and the foundation they use is so wrong for her that in this day of HD tv instead of looking fair she looks grey. What a terrible thing to do to a beautiful girl in the name of acceptability.

I guess the only thing we can do is that we don't ourselves buy into this and not use the lightening creams and ensure our children have the self esteem to accept themselves as they are and consider themselves the most beautiful girls in the world.

i know right! i mean, my aunt still loves me and pampers me even tho i'm not that fair but just the fact that she asked kinda irritates me

and oh trust me, when that happened to my cousin when she was that small, ooo my blood boiled and i was ready to clobber the one who gifted her that but she and her mom stopped me😡

i know society is changing .. i just wish the result was faster! lol

and trust me its not only the old ppl but even young ppl as young as 20ys ask this absurd question.
Not Is the baby healthy or is the mother ok.. na na na .. They just need to know fair and fat ...

unfortunately this obsession with color is very much there in our Indian society. Even educated people make this discrimination. My sister is an engineer with a well paid job in a very good company. When proposals came for her marriage,we were shocked to find that so many of the boys were hesitant as she is dark.We couldn't believe it.My sister was so depressed. And she for that matter is so good looking with such good features, except for her complexion. What to do? Such a pathetic state of affairs.
It is the inner beauty that counts...when will people realize this?
