Chapter 12

Abhay and Pia had two more suspects to think about, Bijoy who could have killed Maya to take revenge or Jeev, who may have still been in love with her and resented her marriage. Maybe it was Jeev whom she was afraid of and that's why she had broken her engagement with him. But they needed to be sure of what reason she gave to others for her breaking off the engagement. They decided the best person to give them this information would be Jeev Kumar himself. But how to approach them was the question. According to Shamta he still had his office at Nariman Point. They were contemplating how to approach him but were drawing a blank. They decided to first find out what type of cases he specialize in and maybe then they can approach him pretending to be clients desiring his consultation. After a few web searches they found that Jeev Kumar was a very famous Divorce lawyer. Abhay sighed as of all things Jeev Kumar had to be a divorce specialist. But, considering his own heart break, maybe he was getting some sadistic pleasure breaking couples apart. They were wondering what will be the best way to approach him when Pia suddenly spoke up in excitement:

Why don't you take his appointment to consult him about your divorce case?

Abhay was taken aback and looked in T's direction and said: I didn't know you were considering a divorce T. What went wrong? You and Jeh are so happy together, so why are you divorcing him?

T: What??? Are you out of your mind?? Why would I divorce Jeh? We love each other so much.

Abhay looking back at Pia with a confused expression asked: then what divorce case are you talking of Pia?

Pia: Our divorce silly!!

Abhay had a look of shock and horror on his face. It took him a few minutes to comprehend what pia just said and with anguish written clearly on his face he asked: Why do you want to divorce me Pia? Are you not happy with me? Please Pia, tell me where I went wrong, and I promise I will mend it. I will quit my job, if you seek more of my time with you, but please don't do this to me, I can't live without you.

Pia banged her hand on her head and exclaimed: I didn't know you were so melodramatic Abhay. I am not divorcing you, I am only asking you to pretend that you want to divorce me and seek the advocate's appointment for consultation.

Abhay a little angrily: What are you saying Pia? Not even in my worst nightmare can I ever think of divorcing you.

Pia with a wink: I know and that's why I feel absolutely safe and comfortable with you doing this act. As I know you won't follow any advice he gives you.

Abhay: But, Pia...

Pia: No buts Abhay. This is the only way we can seek to meet him and then once we have him opened up to you, we can ask him in an indirect way about Maya.

Reluctantly Abhay agreed to the plan and called up advocate Jeev Kumar's office and was routed to his secretary. He asked her to book an appointment with the advocate at the earliest as he wished to divorce his wife as soon as possible. He got an appointment for Saturday morning and he was almost about to cancel it because he and Pia had decided to take some time out for each other on the weekend, away from this maddening murder mystery. But, Pia stopped him from doing so and Abhay pouted like a child and refused to talk to her. The rest of the evening went in Pia trying to make Abhay talk to her while T retired to her room in the house on the pretext of having a long beauty sleep.

A few days passed and finally it was Saturday – the day Abhay was to meet Advocate Jeev Kumar. They have decided that Abhay will dial up Pia from his phone from Jeev's office and would keep his phone on loudspeaker so that Pia and T could listen to the entire conversation. Abhay did as was told and soon Pia and T were listening to the conversation between the lawyer and Abhay while waiting for Abhay in the parking lot.

Jeev: So Mr. Raichand, you are here to file for divorce with your wife. May I know your reason for divorcing her?

Abhay(sheepishly): errmmm... is it necessary?

Jeev: Yes of course. Your divorce petition needs to have a strong reason as to why you want to divorce your wife, else the judge would just reject the petition outright.

Abhay: But that's our personal matter.

Jeev: Well if you do not want to disclose the real reason, then you can only go for a mutual divorce for which you will have to file the petition along with your wife otherwise, if she is not willing to divorce you, then you need to give solid reasons as to why the court should grant you a divorce.

Abhay(happily): really, that's easy. Pia does whatever I ask her to do, so she will surely agree for a mutual divorce.

Jeev: Really, then why do you want to divorce her in the first place?

Abhay: Errmmm...

Pia was literally banging her head at Abhay's stupidity. She decided to take matters in her own hands and despite T's warnings, barged into the advocate's office and gate-crashed into his chambers and started shouting at Abhay who was staring at her thunderstruck:

I knew it. You would ask for divorce from me so that you can marry that secretary of yours. No, I won't grant you divorce that easily. Mr. Lawyer, I want to hire you to file my divorce case and make sure that he ahs to pay me a handsome alimony.

The lawyer who was intently watching the duo with great amusement remarked: Certainly Mrs. Raichand. And shall I mention in the petition that how Mr. Raichand is such and adulterous beast who never respected any of the marriage vows and so needs to be sent to prison too for committing the crime of adultery?

This riled Pia up but she tried to hold herself back and said: Errmm... no prison will be too extreme, but I want a handsome alimony.

Jeev: But that would make you look like a gold-digger rather than making Mr. Raichand appear as an infidel pervert who sleeps around with every woman he can lay off.

Pia(now losing her temper): My husband does not sleep around with other women!!!

Jeev: oh maybe then I should write that this man here is a wife abuser and get him booked under domestic violence act and press charges against him for beating you up regularly. Make sure that you get a medical certificate to prove your wounds.

Pia: But he does not beat me up.

Jeev: oh, then he must be impotent and that's why you want to divorce him. Fair enough. That's the easiest way to break a marriage. Consider it done. Impotency is a legally valid ground for divorce and..

Pia: Stop it!! He is not impotent!!! Stop insulting my husband!!!!

Jeev(now shouting): Then you two stop wasting my time with your foolery and tell me why exactly are you both here. Who sent you and for what? Are you spying on me? Speak up or I shall call up the Police.

Abhay and Pia thought that this is the last chance they are going to get with this advocate, so they might as well try their luck and so Pia spoke: Actually I just wanted to talk about my mom...

Jeev(now confused and irritated): Your mom... Do I know her? Is she my client??

Pia: No... actually she isn't or wasn't my real mom but my step mom and you knew her... personally many years back.. almost 18 years.

Jeev now dreadingly yet curiously asked: Who are you talking of?

And Pia responded with the name Jeev was dreading to hear: Maya Sharma.. Rathod.

YAY! Am first 🥳 Dishu this was one helluva hilarious update, too good 👏 I was laughing like crazy while reading this 🤣 Pia asking Abhay to pretend filing for divorce, Abhay assuming T wants a divorce n when Pia says its theirs Abhay freaking out was so cute 😆 Then Abhay goes to Jeev n fumbles while asking for a divorce n says Pia will do anything he says n Jeev wondering y on earth this madman wanna divorce his obedient wife Pia barging in trying to take control 🤣 Jeev defo is the divorce expert 😆 Infidelity, abuser n impotent 😲 Pia saying stop insulting my hubby n the poor guy finally losing his cool as to y these hoodlums have come to him 😆 Super duper awesome 😆 Am gonna read this update many more times 😃 Now waiting for Jeev's version on Maya 😊 SUPERB Dishu 👏 I had a gr8 time reading it 😃
