Chapter 11::Love Story 1650::

Before Piya could watch further, Daniel took Piya's hand and closed his eyes to concentrate his energies and the portal opened again. They walked through the portal and landed in the present. Piya left Daniel's hand and walked a little further and closed her eyes feeling the bout of mixed feelings fill her heart. She was happy that there was a human side to Abhay after all, but her heart sank thinking of how he got transformed into a souless monster that was owned by the dark world. She remembered his warm smile untainted by the darkness of the world he had embraced centuries ago. There was a time when he hunted the monsters of the night, yet he became one of them. What bothered Piya was what had happened to his first love Ada. Why did he have to sacrifice his soul for her? The thought of Ada made her heart grow heavy. A single tear glistened on her cheek as the sudden pain made her breathless. Abhay had belonged to someone else, he had loved someone else. That one eye contact between them was enough to see the immense love Abhay had held in his heart for another woman. When she was an angel, the only thing she shared in common with the humans was the emotion of happiness and empathy for helpless. It had been quite long since she had left the heavens and resided on the earth and the previously unfamiliar human emotions had manifested in her, even the negative emotions. She couldn't help feel jealous of princess Ada.
She wiped the tear from her cheek and turned to Daniel- I need to go back again. I want to see what happened between Abhay and Ada. I want to know their story.
Daniel- Piya, this is not so easy. Even my power has its boundaries. And even if I am able to take you back there again, there is no guarantee that nothing will go wrong. You are an earth dweller now and when you go into the vortex, you leave a void here which slowly closes up and if you don't return before the void closes up, you will be lost in the past forever.
Piya- That will not happen. You'll bring us back in time. Daniel, this is very important to me. If I have to get Abhay to embrace his humanity, I need to know how he lost himself to the dark world.
Daniel- Piya, I helped you as much as I can. I showed you who he was and the reason he lost his humanity. I can't help you further. I cannot put you in danger like this.
Piya- I trust you Daniel. Please! Do it for me.
Daniel- Alright. But Piya the minute I feel the void closing up, I'll bring us back, no questions asked. Are we clear!
Piya- I promise to go by your word.
Daniel summoned the announcers once again. The black smoke hovered over them. He directed his powers and brought down the smoke and the portal opened again. They stepped into the portal and found themselves in a beautiful garden. The garden lined with rose bushes and there was a little pond at the corner of the garden where a few ducks were gathered. Piya looked around and saw a palace in the distance. Piya looked at Daniel questioningly.
Daniel- We are in the Duchy of Savoy under the rule of duke Emmanuel II. Princess Ada is his sole child and officially the princess of Savoy.
Piya looked around and was admiring the beauty of the kingdom when she saw a girl heading towards the garden. She recognised those beautiful curls and those emerald green eyes. It was princess Ada. She went to the pond and fed the ducks and roamed about the garden running her hands over the beautiful flowers. She bend down to smell the fragrance of the flowers and that's when Piya spotted a figure behind princess Ada. It was a vampire. His red eyes were glowing and he moved closer to her, his fangs ready to attack her neck. Piya shouted to Ada to run but her presence was to have no implications in the past. Piya's actions were futile. She closed her eyes not wanting to witness the murder of this innocent girl. She opened her eyes hearing Ada's scream. Ada had caught sight of the vampire through his reflection in the water of the pond. But before the vampire could attack her, she was pushed back by a person who was now standing protectively in front of her. Piya saw Abhay pushing Ada behind him and facing the vampire with a crossbow in his hand. Abhay shot the wooden stake into the vampire's heart killing him instantly. Ada stood behind shaking with fear and shock what had just transpired. She was unaware of the existence of vampires which made this encounter all the more shocking for her. Abhay turned to face Ada seeing her all shaken up. He took off his jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. Ada moved closer to him and hugged him tightly. She was sobbing uncontrollably. Abhay hugged her closer into his embrace and stroked her back to soothe her. After several minutes, Ada started to calm down and loosened her grip around Abhay's waist and now stood embracing him gently. She felt safe in his strong arms. Suddenly she realized she was in the arms of a stranger and backed away from Abhay, her cheeks flushed red. Abhay stared at her, admiring her beauty- her rosy cheeks, her sparkling green eyes, her beautiful auburn hair which was left open and flowed down her back in a waterfall of curls and the beautiful lavender gown with white laces on the hem. Abhay had never seen witnessed such beauty in his life. Ada saw him staring at her and she blushed a deep red. She looked away from him but she could still feel his eyes on her. Just then she heard her father calling her from a distance. She turned around and saw her father running towards her with some soldiers behind him. The duke came and hugged his daughter protectively. He was shaken up by how close he had come to losing his only child. The king moved towards Abhay and clasped his hand- Abhayendra, I can't express to you how grateful I am to you for saving my daughter's life. She is most important thing to me. I am truly in your debt.
Abhay- It was my duty. Father holds a lot of respect for you. You have been his cherished friend and most trusted ally for so many years.
The duke let out a hearty laugh and patted his back. He clicked his fingers, indicating to the soldiers to take care of the dead vampire's corpse. He turned towards Abhay again and noticed a cut on his hand. He addressed Ada- Ada my dear, Abhayendra has injured his hand. Kindly take him up to your chambers and tend to his wound. It is the least you can do for your saviour. Ada looked at Abhay and smiled shyly. Abhay found himself smiling back. He was grateful to the king for giving him a chance to talk to princess Ada. Ada led him to the palace. Piya tried to go after them but Daniel held her hand.
Daniel- Piya, you won't admit it but Abhay is starting to possess your heart now. Seeing any further into his past will cause you a lot of hurt. Are you up for that?
Piya- Daniel, the real Abhay is not the monster he is today. I saw the real him, a person who risked his life fighting against dark world. I have to bring him back. I need to bring him back. And if I have to bear the pain of a heart break, then so be it.
Daniel left her hand and she raced after Abhay and Ada and followed them to princess Ada's chambers. Ada made Abhay sit in her parlour room and summoned the maids to bring some cotton and salve. She shyly picked up his hand and tended to the wound. It was hard for her to concentrate with Abhay staring at her. She She decided to cut the tension with small talk and the creature in the garden had her mind full of questions.
Ada- The creature in the garden…What was it? It looked like a human but it had fangs and red eyes.
Abhay waited a moment before answering. He wondered if he should tell Ada about the dark world her father had hidden from her- That was a vampire, the most dangerous monster among all creatures in the dark world. It walks the shadows as a living corpse. It is a soulless body in which the devil resides and it needs to feed on human blood to satisfy its dark desires.
Ada's eyes widened in shock for she had never heard of the existence of these creatures-How did I not know about them. Does father know? In the garden, he was shaken up because of the attack on me but he wasn't shocked to see the creature.
Abhay- Good observation. Yes your father knows and I am here to help him in his quest against the dark creatures. He didn't want you to know about them. He wanted to keep you away from all this.
Ada- Then why did you tell me about them?
Abhay- Just because you close your eyes and can't see the world doesn't mean that the world can't see you. What happened in the garden reiterates that. Knowing about them will help fight them better. And the fight against the dark world is what cemented the friendship of my father and yours. They both united for a common cause. So this means I will be here a lot.
Ada felt strangely happy hearing this. She was glad this is not the last she'll be seeing of him.
Piya watched this whole scene with a sad smile on her face. Just then she knew that Ada will always be the one who owned Abhay's heart. She could see why Abhay was willing to give himself up for this girl. She watched them sitting close together; stealing glances at each other and then the scene was clouded with white smoke. When the smoke cleared she found herself by a beautiful lakeside and in the background, a sunset adorned the sky. She saw a couple sitting by the lakeside cuddled up against each other. It was Abhay and Ada. Ada laid back against Abhay's chest while Abhay's arms encircled her, holding her delicate hands in his. He lifted her hand and kissed it softly making Ada smile shyly. Abhay kissed her forehead, her nose and was about to kiss her lips when Ada turned and hid her face in his chest. Abhay smiled at her innocence and shyness. He tightened his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder.
Ada- Abhayendra, when will you tell father about us?
Abhay smiled- Getting antsy are we. Well your father sent an invitation for the ball in honour of your 18th birthday. I shall address him then and ask for your hand in marriage. I can't wait to make you mine.
He kissed her cheek several times making her giggle. She moved away from his embrace, got up and ran. Abhay chased after her and caught her around the waist and continued planting a trail of sweet kisses on her face. The white smoke swirled around them and the scene changed again. Piya found herself in the same scene she had visited the first time she had walked through the portal. She saw Abhay and Ada together in the middle of the room and the duke was with them. He chinked his glass to get everybody's attention- It so happens that today is a double celebration. It is my lovely daughter's birthday and as for the second celebration, I would like to announce Princess Ada's engagement to Abhyendra Maurya. There cannot be a happier moment for me right now.
He hugged both Abhay and his daughter and then moved to converse with the guests who were congratulating him. Abhay moved closer to Ada and caught her hand, raising it to his lips and kissed it. Ada looked down shyly and tried to free her hand but Abhay held on.
Abhay- You still feel shy. I am your fianc now my love. This means I don't have to be careful with you in front of others.
Abhay bend his head towards hers when one of the maids interrupted them. Abhay was irritated while Ada giggled watching his annoyed face. The maid told him that the duke wishes to see him outside the ballroom. Abhay left to see the duke and found him pacing anxiously in the corridor outside the ballroom.
The duke saw Abhay and enquired- I see you are in your hunting gear. Did you make any progress with this vampire situation?
Abhay- I hunted down a coven of vampires with the help of my slayers. They were planning an attack on the village. They are getting more organised and forming covens. We will need all the help we can get.
The duke nodded and continued- That is precisely the problem now. They are getting organised. The news of your campaign against the vampires has reached them. They are marking you as a target. You'll have to watch your back.
Abhay- Don't worry my lord. I will handle this situation. The smoke swirled and the scene changed again and Piya saw Abhay running through the forest, his face crumbled in worry and pain. She wanted to follow him but just then she heard Daniel's voice from behind her.
Daniel- Piya the void is closing up. We need to leave right now.
Piya- no wait, I need more time. I havent seen the whole story yet. Just a while longer, please Daniel.
Daniel- Piya, we are out of time. You gave me your word that you'll listen to me. Daniel ignored Piya's pleas and opened the portal. He caught her hand and pushed her into the portal and entered after her. The force of the portal sucked me them in and had them swirling in circles. The whirlpool soon landed them into the present once again and the force of it had them thrown on the ground. Daniel helped Piya up and looked at her silently, giving her time to absorb what she had seen.
Piya- So the vampires knew of Abhay's campaigns against them. They must have come after him seeking revenge for attacking their species. I wish I had more time in there.
Daniel- Piya, you know enough of his past to figure out how he became part of the dark world. In an act of vengeance, one of the vampires must have turned him.
Piya- No, that's not it. There is much more to it. Abhay was a slayer and he hated vampires. He wouldn't have let the dark world, he had once fought so hard against, consume him so easily. Something must have happened that made him choose to be a soulless monster, the very thing he despised the most.
Daniel- Piya, this is not going to be easy; making Abhay feel again. If his past was so over bearing that it made a monster out of him, then he won't want to change so easily. But knowing you, your determination will be enough for you both.
Daniel noted the profound sadness in Piya's eyes. She was holding back the pain of seeing Abhay love someone else. She tried to hold herself together for Daniel's sake. She didn't want him to worry about her constantly.
Daniel touched Piya's cheek and turned to go. Before leaving, he flashed Piya a confident smile and said- Abhay had loved once. He will love again. Saying this, he vanished in a wisp of smoke.
