Abhay's POV
I motioned for Kabir to enter the classroom. We went and took the last seat. Horizontally two seats behind Pia's and Misha's. I could feel Pia's gaze on me. Her big brown eyes filled with confusion as ever, with frustation and uncertainty for not knowing what this is all about. Neither could I avert my gaze from her. She turned back and looked at me, then at Kabir. But Kabir didn't seem to notice. Too engrossed..in staring at Misha.
She turned around back to front and said something to Misha. Okay, I couldn't make out what she said. With all the mind reading superpowers, you don't get one to listen to voices. Sigh.
Even Misha seemed to be sneaking sidelong glances at us two now. Great, we are the subject of their conversation now.
''Can you make out what they are saying?'' I passed to Kabir in my mind.
Kabir didn't reply. Too busy thinking that my message got stuck in the whirlwind of thoughts going on in his mind. Ofcourse I couldn't read them, unless he wanted me to read. Which he obviously didn't.
''Kabir?'' I said verbally.
''How can she exactly look like her?'' He said. So lightly I wasn't sure if I heard it right. ''She looks exactly like her, from every point of view. How? Is that even possible?''
I shook my head. ''I don't know, Kabir. Looks like we are in for some supernatural research.''
''Research?'' He frowned at me. ''What help will that 'research' do? As long as she is there, she will keep reminding me of who I am and what I have lost.'' He sighed. ''She shouldn't be there, buddy.''
''Whatever you are thinking, cut it out.'' I relaxed back on the seat. ''It's not her fault she looks like someone 200 years ago, okay?''
He sighed. Louder this time. ''I know..I just - Cant take it. Cant take seeing her everyday, remembering Nisha everyday and -'' He clenched his fists ''-Remembering my truth of existence everyday.''
I rested my hand on his shoulder. ''Dont worry, buddy. We will sort it out.''
He smiled and eased back of my hand - so gentally, that to anyone, it would seem too friendly. But I knew he wouldn't. The sad truth of my life was that he hated me. Hated me and blamed me for whatever has gone wrong in his life. And from his point of view, even I felt guilty.
The teacher entered and a formal round of introductions followed.
''Now, students.'' She scribbled 'CHEMISTRY' with a marker on the whiteboard, a screeching sound followed. ''My class is not about opening books, googling stuff and giving it in...It's about -'' She took a pot with several folded sheets out of the cupboard ''- much more than that'' She smiled.
''What's that?'' Murmurs followed.
''It's a pot with all of the girls' names in it. Now, one by one, each guy will come and take a slip out. Whoever they get, that's their project partner'' She explained.
I cast a hopeful glance at Pia. And then I shuddered. Talking to her when I'm not sure what the result would be. What if her being with me, even for a second, can be dangerous to her?
''Okay, Abhay, your turn first?''
I hesitated for a second, and then took the paper out. Gosh. I..didn't know what to expect. I kinda hoped for it to be Pia, and I kinda wanted it not to be Pia until I am sure about whether her being with me is safe for her or not.
''Dont open it yet.'' She smiled. And then she moved on to Kabir and motioned for him to take one. He smiled and took his.

Pia's POV
I looked back at Abhay and Kabir. Trying to pick any signs for what this is all about. Or I am just hallucinating..
''Pia?? Would you stop staring at those two guys?'' Misha grinned.
''Huh? I wasn't staring at anyone.''
''Sure you weren't.'' Misha cast a side look at them, and said, ''Not your types. You are too good for them.''
''Oh yeah?'' I arched my brow and smiled.
''Oh wait...he -'' Misha motioned toward Kabir. ''- is the desi Khali, by god. I collided into him and it was so strong it shook the bones out of me.'' She gave a fake shudder.
Oh yeah. I wasn't the only one hallucinating.
The teacher entered and told us how our partners are gonna be selected.
I cast a glance at Abhay. Wondering whether or not I wanted to be his partner. Okay, maybe I did. But that was the 14 year old screaming from inside me who had just had her first crush..
Or labelling this as a crush would be inappropriate?
I shook my head. There were so many questions I needed to ask him.
Why did he look at Misha like that?
Why does he keep staring at me -err, us?
Why does he look so much like Kabir?
Okay, maybe those two are brothers. They do look like brothers. But..
Why does his brother sparkle like an angel?
Okay, I couldn't ask him that. I rolled my eyes. Or... could I?
I saw him picking the slip out. Do I hope that my name is in there, or so I hope that it's not? Or I am not even sure that what I am hoping is my real hope or what?
I saw Kabir taking his, and looked at Misha. Misha looked at me, then at Kabir, then at me. I was smiling.
She threw her hands back and said ''Whatever you're hoping, it's evil. So dont' say it.''
''I wasn't even hoping anything.'' I grinned. ''I was just... thinking.''
''About things too stupid to be true. Gosh, you are behaving like a bimbo!'' She mock punched me in the shoulder.
''Can't blame me for picking guys out for you. He seems too engrossed in you anyway.''
''Huh?'' Misha looked back at him. He immediately averted his gaze somewhere else - to the door.
''Okay guys....'' The teacher said. ''And lets see what we have here. Um, Lets start from you..'' She pointed to the guy at the first bench. And followed. And followed. And followed. Now, there were 3 guys remaining - and 3 girls. Me, Misha, and Tanushree - Abhay, Kabir and Siddharth.
''Siddharth, what do you have?''
''Tanushree'' He grinned. I sighed. I am not sure what that was - relief?
''Okay..Abhay, who do you have?''
He paused. That pause was only momentary, but seemed too long for me. After a space of three heartbeats, he said - ''Pia.''
''Okay.'' Miss smiled. ''So it's Kabir and Misha in the end. Now I will tell you what you have to do.''
She took the slips back from the students and wrote ''Your chemistry factor?'' on the board.
''Now..what you have to do is-'' She smiled ''-know the person next to you properly. What they like, don't like, their hobbies, interests, particular favourites, allergies and everything. And you have to write their chemistry factor. That is, with you, how much chemistry do you two share? Rate it out of 10. Kinda like how similar you are or how much along do you get?''
I looked back at Abhay. And sighed. Guess I'm going to get answers to my questions afterall.
