Actually he says after that that he is like a brother to her - thinking that he should keep it a secret for a while.

He asks her to treat him like a brother and promise him that she would stay away from Shanshank.

Then Shanshank turns up after Aziz leaves and asks her where is she going. He will marry and not go after her but she should not go now late at night.
