New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS): Actors Kratika Sengar and Abhishek Rawat were here Thursday to promote their forthcoming soap opera "Service Wali Bahu", which is aimed at depicting the harsh reality of modern Indian society where people are demanding a working woman as daughter-in-law who can support her in-laws with a steady income post marriage.
Based on a small town in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, the women-centric show will showcase the life of Payal Rai (played by Kratika) -- a civil engineer - who falls into the trap of a new-age dowry system after she marries Dev (essayed by Abhishek).
"Payal is a middle-class girl, who is very well educated and values relationships a lot. She has a very special and unique bonding with her father and sister. Though her mother still thinks that women should not work much and stay at home. Payal demonstrates the modern age girl of the Indian society," Kratika told IANS.
Talking about the show, she further added: "We are not aiming to preach anyone with this show. In today's society, the concept of dowry system is not the same which it was earlier. So, the show demonstrates the other way through which people have started asking for dowry."
Though the show focuses much on Payal's life, Abhishek said he will get more recognition from the show and his character will demonstrate a positive attitude to the society.
Abhishek, who will portray a jobless person in the show, said: "The show is women-centric, but that doesn't means I've nothing to do in it. Previously also I've done similar kind of show, 'Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo', through which I got a lot of recognition. I don't feel insecure about playing supportive roles."
Talking about his character, he added: "Dev is like any other 25-year-old young guy in today's society. He finds himself at the cross roads of his life where he is trying to stand on his feet. He is in-confident as he has not seen much success in his life."
Apart from Kratika and Abhishek, the show will also feature Akshara Singh, Vineet Kumar, Atul Shrivastava, Pratichee Mishra, Ramakanth Daayama and Meena Mir in pivotal roles.
Touted as a family show and not just for women, "Service Wali Bahu" is tented to question people about the motivations with which they approach marriage.
"The show will depict the ugly truth of the marriage which has now transformed into an all new thing. Dowry system has not finished yet from the Indian society. The intent of the show is to ask whether a working woman is a pride of a family or is she just another name to the dowry system," said Raakesh Paswan of Village Boy Productions.
"Service Wali Bahu", which starts Feb 23 will be aired on Zee TV.

Souce:http://in.newshub.org/kratika-sengar-and-abhishek-rawat-promote-zee-tv-s-new-show-in-delhi-india-latest-ind-12065739.htmlWe are all pawns in the hands of destiny. A good turn of fate becomes a bed of roses. These thoughts cross my mind as I speak to Kratika Sengar, who is now playing the lead role in Zee TV's new show Service Wali Bahu. Now a well-known actorthanks to the pivotal role she played in Zee TVs hit shows Jhansi Ki Rani and "unarvivaah, Kratika unlike many others did not have to go from one studio to another in search of a break. A product of Amity University's Mass Media department she acted in her friend's 12 minute film. Her friend who wanted to pursue films sent it to Balaji Telefilms where by chance Ekta Kapoor saw it and enquired about Kratika. Soon she got a call from Balaji Telefilms and following an audition, was cast in their show Kasauti Zindagi Ki. She did not play any important role but got enough attention to be signed for serials like Jhansi Ki Rani and Punarvivaah. The actor remarks, "I was doing specialisation in advertising. I had no interest in acting. ne of my friends, who was doing specialisation in films made a short film casting me. Luckily I got a break and my acting career took off."
For the portrayal of Payal Rai in Service Wali Bahu, she had to work on her accent to make it look authentic as the story is set in the small town of Jamshedpur. "I was born and brought up in Kanpur where we used to say hum. When I came to Delhi for higher studies hum turned into main and then I got married in a Punjabi family so everything changed. For me to adapt to Bihari accent was a bit difficult which was the biggest challenge for me."
About the show Kratika says, "The show traces the journey of Payal Rai who is from a small town where girls are not encouraged for higher education and go out to work but Payal has got immense support from her family to achieve what she wants in life. She is an ambitious girl having her family values intact. A girl who falls into a trap of a new-aged dowry system where her in-laws look to her as a healthy source of family income."
Krtaika believes, "Service Wali Bahu like most other serials cater to women audiences and is aimed at smaller towns where people are home by sunset. So, the 6:30 p.m. slot is apt."
("Service Wali Bahu" premieres on February 23rd and will air from Monday to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on Zee TV.)
