PART 2
He kisses her softy, tasting the sweetness of the dessert mixed with the sweetness of her...
Everything around them fades away. They are in their universe. Locked in a kiss. Time standing still...
After what seemed like eternity, their lips part slowly. They shared a lifetime in that one kiss. In the sparkle in her eyes. Brown and glints of gold, it isn't from the candlelight reflecting, it is coming from within showing her happiness. And his eyes; Large, calm, and dark, soaking in her light like a black hole. Keeping it all for himself.
He rises from the table and steps over to her holding out his hand. She takes it lets him lead her away. They cross the room to the open door. It leads to a small patio. The air is still warm. The clear sky speckled with stars. The mood, nearly full, lights the path ahead for them. He takes her in his arm and they walk.
The path ends at a sandy area by the shore of the lake. They stop at the edge of the sand. Before she can do it, he kneels down and unbuckles her shoes, slipping them off her feet, and places them near a chair. She steps onto the sand. Soft and smooth. She smiles and squishes it between her toes. There's a childlike innocence again. He watches her, drinking in that innocence. He knows where she's going next. That's why he brought her here.
She lets out a giggle as the water touches her feet. It's cold; almost numbing. But she doesn't care. She can't resist the temptation to feel the water on her feet. She cocks her heard as if to dare him to come in after her. He grins and shakes his head. Not this time. He is staying safely on dry land. Or so he thinks. She kicks a stream of water towards him, soaking his dry clothes.
He wasn't expecting that. Though he should have been. He knows her too well. He was distracted; caught up in the moment staring at her childlike innocence. The look of shock on his face lets her know that he was caught off guard. She tilts her head back and laughs. The laugh of a confident woman. That is no innocent child standing in the lake before him.
At that moment he falls in love with her a little more, wondering how is that possible when his love is overflowing.
Bored with her solitary play, she rejoins him on the sand, putting her hands around his neck, and looks up at him with those sparkling eyes. He kisses her forehead, Nose, eyes and lips. They kiss playfully, eagerly. Lips smiling, tongues playing, eyes laughing. His hands placed firmly on her waist. Holding her close to him. Afraid to let go of this goddess that has graced his earth just for him.
They kiss until nearly out of breath. Parting with a quiet laughter. Amused at their youthful enthusiasm. She takes his hand and starts walking to the dock. She is radiant and he is captivated. At that moment he would follow her to the ends of the earth. She leads him to the very end of the dock. She has her toes hanging over the edge, the shore and dock out of view. All that can be seen before them is water smooth as glass, reflecting the moonlight. It is as if they are standing on the lake, or hovering over it. No dock beneath them or the shore behind them. She teeters just a little and grabs his jacket to steady herself. He puts his arm around her, a little unsteady as well. They are smiling at their circumstances.
They sit for a while. She wants to put her toes in the water, but it is just out of reach. She gives that adorable pout and rests her head on his shoulder instead. Letting out a sigh, she is finally relaxed, resting against him, enjoying the beauty of the lake, the stillness of the night. Everything is silent, except for the singing of the insects and the beating of their hearts. He takes her hand and caresses them from wrist to fingertip, as if to exploring something beautiful and fragile. Those hands of hers are anything but fragile except at that moment transformed by his gentle touch.
Yash: "Aartji, I wonder what my life would be without you sometimes... you complete me in every sense and yet I take you for granted"
Aarti: "now Yashji, where is this coming from?
Yash: "I know that you've noticed that I've been avoiding you for the past few days..."
Aarti: "I have Yashji, but I was scared to confront you about it as I thought that you felt that I was partly responsible for what had happened with Aayu... had I not been so careless to leave him alone in the car for those few minutes."
Yash: "no Aartiji, you have it all wrong, that isn't the reason why I have been avoiding you... the truth is that I did not know how to face you after all that has happened. I was too ashamed of myself to even talk to you, for every time that I glanced at you, all the hurtful words that I had hurled at you replayed in my mind and all the horrible things that I've done flashed before me and I was feeling guilty at the way I treated you. Sometimes I wonder if a part of you hates me for everything that I've said and done to you. Honestly at times I wonder if I really truly deserve your love and trust after all that I have put you through."
By this time both Yash and Aarti had tears in their eyes.
Aarti: "Yashji, I love you and I always will. Without you I am nothing. I can never hate you. Yes, I was upset, but it was not your fault. It was the fault of our circumstances at the time. I was upset but not for what you said to be but more because of the fact that you did not trust me at the time when I needed you the most. Everyone makes mistakes Yashji, yours was not trusting me at the time. But its all over now, we shouldn't dwell on the things that have already happened. What's done is done, all we can do now is learn from our mistakes and promise each other that we will never leave each others sides and will always trust each other come what may."
Yash: "I promise you Aartji that form this day forward, you won't have a single complaint about me. I will always trust you and fulfil all the vows that we took during our wedding. I love you. You may have only one complaint...my one track mind ;)"
Aarti: "badmash! I love you too Yashji and I promise to be by your side through everything no matter what happens."
He lifted her head from his shoulder and faced her to him. Kissing her forehead, then her cheeks, and finally her lips. Just barely touching her, he rises and helps her to her feet. Leading her off the dock, across the sand. He brushes the sand from her feet and slips them into her shoes. He struggles to close the tiny buckles not made for large fingers. She knows she could do it twice as fast, but she smiles and waits patiently, watching him concentrate. Falling in love with him a little more, wondering how that is possible when her love is already overflowing.
As he stands, he takes his face in her hands, gently, and kisses his lips. Their over spilling of emotions mingle and swirl around them. They are in their universe once again. Locked in a kiss under the moonlight. Time standing still...
A perfect end to a perfect date...
